Madness! This will ensure the All Blacks win the 2nd test - like they need any help. Whoever agreed to this itinerary is an idiot.

Re: Chiefs v Wales, 14 June
I expect Wales to win. I'm not convinced the Chiefs will be super competitive. This is an under strength Chiefs team that is comprised of professionals and semiprofessionals. I think there something like 20 players unavailable through injury, sevens, international duty etc. Players not involved in super XV have been limited to a couple of months of amateur club rugby and combinations wont be there.

Re: Chiefs v Wales, 14 June
I do think this game would have been the perfect game to give Anscombe a start, preferably at 10 but at least at XV.
I know Priestland is like marmite but I do like the look of our backline and if we can get a platform think we can let rip and play some decent rugby. With North now ruled out it's a huge chance for James or Walker to stake a test claim.
The backrow worries as I am still not convinced by King but we do need to have a look at other options outside of Faletau and Turnbull meh just not sure about it at all.
As for the front row cover on the bench then god help. We have a L/Head who has been converted to T/head now being asked to cover L/Head again and we have a T/Head who is only just above Scott Andrews in the pecking order (what have Clermont seen in Jarvis)? Then we have Dacey covering hooker.

I think we can also say Liam Messam and Sonny Bill werent available for selection.
Cant see this team staying within 40 points of Wales. both Gatty and Rennie will use this opportunity for squad/combinations development.
Stephen Donald to captain the side has played 35 minjutes of Rugby this ywar for the Chiefs. I do find that mid field of Hurrell and Lienert Brown are always worth a watch.

Whoever thinks this Wales team will do well is mad, it's a very scratch team. If they come off 2nd best in the collisions then they'll get thrashed.
BF I'm with you on Anscombe but I think he is likely to start at 15 for Wales, with Liam Williams moving to the wing.

First blood to Chiefs because of Turnbull and his slow, lazy attitude. Why he's still a pro player I don't know.

Slow, ponderous, second rate players, blown away. Lucky to be only 19 points down after 38 minutes. Anyone still think Wales have any depth? Pathetic.

All the Chiefs are doing is playing simple heads up rugby with pace, aggression and skill. Making Wales look awful. What an embarrassing 40 mins of rugby.

I suspected we might take a beating. When has our 2nd string team ever been good? And against a club side that is used to playing together, and a NZ club side at that... Recipe for disaster.

Utterly and totally embarrassing.
Being taught a lesson here by a side shorn of ABs and injured players. We cant take our chances, cant tackle, cant win line out.

Wales, ponderous, T James is so poor at this level and T Morgan being stepped by a second row. S Williams trying to cover for the non tacklers around him.Falatau seems to have improved Wales going forward.
Chjefs seem offside most of the time and diving over the tackler.

Sounds like this is the last game Wales needed on a 3 test tour at the end of a World Cup season.
Especially now that first team players have had to play.

Re: Chiefs v Wales, 14 June
It's bad in that some individuals for Wales are shocking. The result is largely in part due to Chiefs 16th man - I say that on the back of some fresh cheating at the maul by Chiefs, the ref of course happy to award Chiefs the penalty. They push early at the scrum all night, before going backwards and down when the ball is in, yet when Wales push early once it's a penalty straight away.
god help the Lions coach who will be dealing with this every week.

Line out poor
James poor Walker poor T Morgan poor.
King poor Turnbull is he even playing?
M Morgan least trying to do something

The ref is letting a lot go, but Wales can have zero complaints about the ref. They have been useless. The basic skill level is shocking.

Re: Chiefs v Wales, 14 June
Club sides often have it good against international sides. There's something about them being together for years, knowing the ins and outs of each other, etc. Then throw in a scratch 2nd string international side and this is what you get! Although I appreciate that there's a number of Chiefs absentees too.
Just look at Welsh club success over the years against NZ - Llanelli, Swansea, Newport - all managing a win when Wales couldn't! Ospreys beating Oz recently (I think), Munster pushing NZ very close (or did they win???), etc. If memory serves The Lions struggled vs some Super Rugby sides in NZ in 2005, and that was with the cream of UK and Ireland rugby.
Not making excuses here, just pointing out that anyone who thinks this should be a win for Wales because its international players vs club players is not thinking straight. We have to remember that an international player is only an international player because one man (or a selection team) says so and gives them a cap! Doesn't mean they're better than club players from a different country. Especially when the player pools to pick from are of such differing levels of quality. This game should make that clear.

Grif,
I get your point about Club v International second strings, but this game is not a well fought narrow win for the underdog. Wales are absolutely shoite !!!

Am sorry but there is no excuse to lose against a depleted SXV team who hasn't started their season. Even when we last toured NZ when got spanked by the ABs 3 times we managed to have to win the midweek game against the Blues. Sorry to state the obvious but the team Wales lost is miles away from the Waikato Chiefs you get to see in the finals.

You're right and to be fair Chiefs have been outstanding - I've never seen players so committed to their jersey. Well done on your win over the Blues btw, that must have been the key to France finishing above 5th in the 6N.

Not really as they did a lot of cheating under the ref's nose on their own try line in the first half. Playing like that they still would have won, but this is just another ignorant statement from you .

What I don't get is when people say "RP plays so close to the gain line" as if it's a good thing. Chiefs telegraphed his passing and runners all game. His attempted half-breaks through a gap when it finally becomes obvious he's been worked out are like watching a snail try to cross the road.
All-in-all rubbish performance yes, and also goes to show how good NZ rugby is. A scratch Chiefs team comes together and plays like they have been playing together for years - have to give credit to their coaches too.

Warburton was solid, remember he wasnt expecting to play. but the Welsh players that injected energy were Roberts and Faletau when they came on in the second half.

Well that was not what I expected to find coming into work! I get that Wales have not had long together but the Chiefs are missing 8 regular starters and however many squad players. That extra game against England probably did not help. If they were after a warm-up, they should have played a Georgia or a Romania side with a weakened side.
