Euro 2016 Discussion
First topic message reminder :
Rooney woeful? I'm not his biggest fan but he's been pretty good so far, working well alongside Dier allowing Alli to push on further
Duty281 wrote:Sterling and Rooney have been woeful thus far and need to be dropped (but 1 of them certainly won't be), but I would favour giving Kane one final chance. He's had an excellent couple of seasons, and England shouldn't jettison him at the first sign of difficulty.

think we all agree on this format being terrible. Portugal have just qualified without winning a game

The format is terrible, just have to enjoy the matches I guess.
Yep, and Italy vs Spain is a proper good last 16 game.

Think it would have been better to copy the format of the 1982 World Cup, which also had 24 teams.

To be fair...we're getting Italy vs Spain because Spain failed to beat Croatia. Format wise wasn't much wrong with it...in fact had Spain won their group and we won ours then you'd have Spain, England, Belgium on one side of the draw...Italy, France, Germany on the other. Not sure many would be complaining then.

Would you believe those clowns - the bookmakers - have laid out the following ridiculous odds for the England-Iceland match:
7/1 that Iceland win in 90 minutes.
7/2 that Iceland go through.
14/1 on Iceland/Iceland at HT/FT
9/2 Iceland on the 'draw no bet' market
Absurd. I do make England favourites, but not by that margin!

Finish second in a certain group, play a group winner, finish second in another group, play a fellow second placed team. The format is definitely unfair.

Iceland vastly underrated there - won 6 of 7 qualifiers (including in Holland!), and are unbeaten so far in this tournament! England favs yes, but Iceland are the exact same type of team we've struggled to defeat so far

This game is anything but a stroll, expect Iceland to sit back ala Portugal and try and soak it up against our fluid free flowing football and creative midfield, perhaps 1-0 to England.

I wonder if you can get a bet on England to get a shot on target from outside the box in open play.Duty281 wrote:compelling and rich wrote:all these experts saying what a great result getting iceland is are going to look stupid when we draw against them and get knocked out on pens

Don't think too many in blue will be giving Conte a headache ahead of Spain. Italy well off the pace.
Ireland are making all the running but are toiling to fashion chances. Should've had a pen tho

I'm all for the "It's a contact sport!" line, but you can't just push someone over in the penalty area like that, clear pen IMO.

It's one thing for players to be holding onto each other in the box, but that was a poor decision.

So Turkey are out, and Wales are playing Northern Ireland...yes? There was only one scenario, out of fifteen, where that could possibly result!

Just about recovered from that.
So damn late... leave it to Ireland to have the hearts struggling to survive to the end of a game.
Now France?.............. hmmm.......... have we ever met them before?
