Rooney woeful? I'm not his biggest fan but he's been pretty good so far, working well alongside Dier allowing Alli to push on further
Duty281 wrote:Sterling and Rooney have been woeful thus far and need to be dropped (but 1 of them certainly won't be), but I would favour giving Kane one final chance. He's had an excellent couple of seasons, and England shouldn't jettison him at the first sign of difficulty.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Well
Home after a session nothing serious.
Mixed emotions. Disappointed to be out but we gave it our all.
Once we were down to 10 men we knew it was gone.
I was saying to the lads we should have brought Keane on, to attack.
Fair enough if we had gone 3-1 down. Put it on them.
Sad to be out, but we leave with our heads held high.
And as a fan that's all you can ask for.
Damn that was hard to type after 10 pints.
We have enjoyed it as France have enjoyed us.
Until the next time folks.
Ireland v England would have been fun.

Hungary still well in this. Wales will give them no counter attacking plays whatsoever. Weren't Wales unbeaten in the two game vs Belgium in the qualifiers?

Wales are going all the way. Croatia getting knocked out yesterday was another boost for them.

Belgium beginning to gel? If their big players can turn up, they don't have much to fear until the final

2 of the most impressive sides in the group phrase out in Croatia and Hungary. Knockout rounds require a different mindset.

More like he played badly the whole season, performing well against Hungary doesn't exactly absolve him of his general Poopie last year.

They won't. Hungary have been so open, playing into their hands & making them look class. Wales won't be mugs, like Hungary have been. Hazard scoring past a tired Hungary side with a 40 year old keeper, is hardly impressive.

I won't call Hungary an impressive side just because they won against overrated Austria.
Anyway cannot watch this game... Do their keeper has his grey pyjamas on?

Agreed, the Hungarian defense was so bad i wouldn't take too much from tonight. He was excellent though i think KDB is more important in the big games.

The whole team are useless, no knowledge of any team outside the obvious top few! Constantly praise home nations for sitting in and playing counter attack and have a go at the other small nations for doing it. The disrespect for Iceland is hilarious, they certainly aren't worse than Russia or Slovakia..

I was watching the Poland game on my phone with mute on and thought Switzerland had won!
Anyway, bar my mistake, what I meant was that if you were a betting man, you would have lost! You did pick the teams to go through but the bookies would have taken your money!

Lallana dropped, which I think is a mistake. He's been one of England's best players in the group stages and despite a lack of final product he's added a lot defensively and offensively for England. I think he'd also be crucial, seeing as Sturridge and Kane are going to be playing and neither are known for their pressing.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Big call from Hodgson...going to look stupid if it pans out wrong..I've seen nothing to suggest he can capture any kind of form just through a phone call. It's not just one thing missing from his game at the moment, he can't cross, can't beat a man, can't shoot. Lallana is the player set to miss out too which is a real shame as I think he's been one of our best players thus far. I even think calling Kane back to line up is a big call; another player who doesn't look comfortable at all..Vardy may not get the space he normal requires to impact a game but he has at least shown the ability to finish chances..something Kane has yet to do (in fact he hasn't even got into the positions to do so)
Enjoyed yesterday's games; Belgium look like they are beginning to gel although as was mentioned they faced a team who were leaving themselves exposed all night. Credit to Hungary for turning up and having a go though. Ireland can consider themselves unlucky; one again they had a valid call which arguably changed the game go against them..how he referee missed that corner I do not know. In the end France upped the tempo and once ahead of steam Ireland couldn't do much really.
Think today's Spain & Italy game will be a good one...Italy have been good so far and while they always seem to keep these type of games tight, I have a feeling the Spanish may run right through them. 3-1 Spain is my prediction.
As for England....well we really should be getting the job done today. Expect Iceland to sit in deep and frustrate...only this time I expect us to get a goal. 1-0 in another 'dominate possession but have no cutting edge' game.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Dropping Lallana is folly. Fi you must play Sterling (still don't know why) then bring him after about 70 mins. Lallana will have run his socks of by then...again and if Iceland have tired then Sterling's pace may prove crucial but to start him seems a strange choice.
Looing forward to tonight's games, agree we should win but will struggle to look good. Ironically, I'll be watching the tv surrounded by snacks I bought from Iceland

We're playing Iceland, pressing from the front won't be a decisive factor and for all of Lallana's skill in the first 45 of each match he's not actually produced anything, end product at this stage is far more important. Sterling with his pace will worry Iceland a lot more.

Ultimately if England are to progress far, I suspect we'll need Sterling's pace to do so. However we can't carry him if he isn't prepared to attack full backs.

I actually think that is something we'll need a lot more of than Sterling's pace. He's going to get get no space in behind. Lallana putting pressure on Iceland's backline, who aren't particularly comfortable with the ball can lead to mistakes and then chances. I'm not sure Sterling has got the final product, pressing ability or confidence to really make a difference. I just can't see his pace causing too many issues for the same reason Vardy isn't starting, there simply isn't going to be a lot of space in behind. Sterling is notorious for refusing to dribble past people. Lallana is hardly a slouch either, he's pretty quick and I think if he played for 60 minutes then maybe Sterling would be a decent option off of the bench as the game opens up more.

Lallana also can only last 45 minutes before he tires himself out
I think against Iceland it makes sense - would expect Lallana to come back in for a potential tie against France

I wouldn't have dropped Sterling for the Slovakian game. If nothing else he will tire the defenders out. The team Roy picked gave us little with the subs, unlike the Welsh game. Lallana is very unlucky to be out as well.
