This is what happens when you show no respect to worthy opponents. It's the same time and again, just end with egg on faces no matter what the score.

I remember the famous "no german would get in our team" before the humping in 2010. Just wish they would show some respect, it's not the fans it's the media.

Also, why the feck is Kane taking free kicks?

Surely we want him in the box, poaching goals? Whats wrong with Rooney doing them?

It's embarrassing this! Just look at our players there, back to goal..no one bar Wilshire showing for the ball, not even moving to find space, just stood still!

The Icelandic captain (Aron Gunnarsson) plays for championship league team Cardiff City.  Should England consider players in the championship if there is not enough players to choose from in the premiership?

I don't think its a case of not showing respect...we're just rubbish.

We weren't convincing in the group stages and we're no better now (worse, in fact). We just don't have any players that can cope with knockout tournament football, it seems.

Could have been 3 after more poor defence.

Thank flip the ball was smacked straight at Hart - not a 'great save', Glenn!

As poor as the players have been...Roy deserves to go because the simple fact is he was the one who picked them and in the case of both Kane and Sterling there was no desire to see either in this game! And to boot he dropped one of our best players to do so in Lallana!

10 mins into second half and best chance has been not for the team losing but those ahead!

Thats what I meant with my earlier "lazy / pedestrian" comments.

When you watch the best teams, the guy with the ball moves decisively and his team mates move to support him. Good slick pass-and-move football.

With England, a player gets the ball, he stands still for 3-4 seconds before deciding what to do with it and the other players just stand where they are, waiting for a pass.

It makes you cringe!

It was just the likes of Linekar and Ferdinand laughing off Iceland as a threat. Saying they had no chance etc..!

Yet they had one of the easiest groups in history and couldn't win it.

Same problem England always have at tournaments : they are playing with fear.
Iceland are enjoying themselves.

England have another fifteen minutes to get back into this - after that panic will do for them and they'll need a miracle.

Hope Vardy can make a difference.

We are awful, Rooney's midfield role must include don't break into a sweat, strolls round the pitch like a practise match.

Our defence has been an accident waiting to happen and Hart goes down in instalments,he's had a mare of a tournament.

Hodgson continually keeps getting team selection wrong, Sterling and Kane have been garbage since game one, but here they are again, typical stubborn coach trying to prove all the critics wrong.

Game was crying out for Ross...Wilshire just added another body in the midfield, he's great when you want to control a game and keep possession but he poses very little direct attacking threat which is what we needed.

Apparently Rooney and Sturridge are Englands best players by a large margin, with Kane the next best, according to the BBC 5 live commentary team.

It was a relative term - they said Rooney and Sturridge were England's best players.

Now the commentary team are saying Rooney is spent, with no energy.

Might as well bomb it into the box and hope for a mistake from the Iceland defenders.

Short answer: never

Because our players are Poopie - we haven't had any good players since about 2004

Funny how every tournament people blame everything: the manager, the team selection, the weather, the tactics and on and on, except the glaringly obvious - we are a Poopie team 'cause our players are Poopie. Simple.

It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. Lost count of the crosses, free kicks and long balls that have sailed into empty space or out of play.

Its like watching a pub team (although I suspect a few pub teams might put up a better showing).

This has to be a new nadir for England, getting dumped out of a competition by Iceland (population roughly the same as Leicester, apparently and with no previous track record in tournaments).

Its one thing getting knocked out of tournaments by the likes of France, Germany or Italy...but bloody Iceland? I can't believe I have lived to witness this day. Sad
