Funny one with Stockdale, has been exceptional at times this season. That double save against Sheffield Wednesday was one of the best saves I have ever seen in a live match. However he has absolute clangers in him.

Ideally I would have him stay for a season or 2, until Walton is ready to be our number one. Means we have to shed out money on a keeper, where it could go to better use.

With Moyes resigning, with the owner apparently wanting to retain him, I wonder whether this is the end of Moyes managerial career at the elite level in English football. Maybe Scotland or China will be his next destination?

As long as Garry Monk is given security at Leeds, I can see him wanting to stay. He seems to be building something interesting there and if he gets the once illustrious Leeds promoted into the premiership that would be a huge achievement for him.

Tbh, this is probably the only time the Sunderland job actually looks appealing. Attractive project with serious funds to rebuild, that the majority of Championship sides don't have.

Giggs will probably be sniffing around this one, Monk, Pearson & Wagner (if he loses the PO final).

Fortunately only Rodwell is on a deal that doesn't lower his salary in relegation I think (when Defoe leaves). Even then though, thats not a cheap wage bill.

But yeah, they have to sell a bunch of players before they can make moves, or they sell up to someone who will clear the debt as part of the sale. Lining up buyers will be tricky in their situation. Lot of debt, aging/expensive playing squad, limited resale value. At least the stadium is relatively new.

With Moyes, I hope he stays out of football for a while, he looks completely drained and he showed absolutely no motivation with Sunderland. He risks becoming Alan Curbishley but the best thing for him would be to just take a step back for a while. Imagine trying himself out in a lower league or back in Scotland would be best, he'll probably see at as a step back for his career but in fairness, it can't get much worse for him.

As for Sunderland, agree with Dolphin that this just gives the impression that they don't have the funds. Expect them to struggle next year and play with plenty of kids. They'll be desperately clearing out anyone with value, which is basically just Jordan Pickford at this stage. A couple of players like Khazri, Borini and NDong may get interest from abroad.

Alan Pardew seems to have a strange managerial record - he will go on a winning streak and then suddenly it becomes a losing streak, which he might then turn around. A "streaky" manager.

Surely Garry Monk would have only resigned if he had offers from a Premiership club. I thought his position at Leeds was a good one, good for developing his own managerial skills. He could have made himself a hero if he had got Leeds promoted next season or the season after that, assuming he wasn't sacked beforehand.

Leeds are installing a new Director of Football separate to Monk, have a new owner, not hard to see the potential for instability there.

Boro have PL money, a talented proven squad at this level and the most patient chairman in the country there

Looking around to see what others have mentioned - yes I see there were potential push factors in his decision to leave. Issues regarding the change of structure the new owner wanted to implement - in particular the new Director of Football as you mention - plus issues concerning his contract. The owner wanted to renew the 12 month contract before considering a longer term contract - while it seems Monk wanted a quick assurance that he would be getting a longer contract.
