Monster Energy statement
An official statement from Monster Energy.
Like all fans of the wrestling industry we were saddened to hear on the evening of the 24th October 2016 that former 6CW superstar and multiple time world champion Kevin ‘Hero’ Johnson was found dead in his hotel room only a few miles from where the show was going out live.
Rumours have circulated since this tragic news broke as to why Hero was in the vicinity so we felt it best to address you, the 6CW audience, directly.
We had recently begun a series of talks with Hero in regards to a return to the industry and the night prior to his most unfortunate death had come to an agreement upon his contract which he signed at a private meeting at the 6CW offices. As part of this contract Hero would be treated as a prizefighter, wrestling a limited number of PPVs throughout the year and was guaranteed a number of main event matches, such was the value we placed on someone we regarded as one of the most sought after commodities in the wrestling industries.
Hero’s name was apt, both to his legions of fans and backstage where for many years he was considered the benchmark of the industry, as he often said, Hero would make you famous, whether you engaged in a back and forth promo with him or were fortunate enough to step foot in the ring with Hero; you knew that afterwards your star shone brighter, that a small part of his aura had rubbed off on you.
Due to Hero’s death being treated as a murder investigation we are unable to provide any further information as to the circumstances though we have been advised that a statement shall be forthcoming from the official authorities. We do though wish to inform everyone that all documents and CCTV footage has been handed over to the investigation and that we are happy to provide any further help where we can be of assistance in identifying the murderer. We wish to state that we have discussed both a postponement or cancellation of the upcoming show with Hero’s immediate family but we were all in agreement that Hero himself would have wanted the show to go on. In a mark of respect though all wrestlers will be wearing a black armband, we ask all fans in attendance to do the same.
RIP Hero
