Wales v Japan 19/11/16
First topic message reminder :
WALES v JAPAN
19 November 2016
KO: 14:30
Principality Stadium, Cardiff
Referee: Marius van der Westhuizen (South Africa)
Assistant referees: John Lacey (Ireland), Craig Maxwell-Keys (England)
Television match official: Eric Gauzins (France)
Assessor: Bryce Lawrence (New Zealand)
Wales played 9 Won 8 Lost 1
Wales: Liam Williams; Halfpenny J Davies, Roberts, Cuthbert; Anscombe, Lloyd Williams; Smith, Baldwin, Lee, Hill, Alun Wyn Jones, Lydiate, Warburton (capt), King.
Replacements: Dacey, Gill, Andrews, Ball, Moriarty, G Davies, S Davies, Giles.
Japan: Matsushima, Yamada, Lafaele, Tatekawa, Fukuoka, Tamura, Tanaka; Nakatani, Horie, Hatakeyama, Kajikawa, Anise, Ilaua, Nunomaki, Mafi
Replacements: Hino, Yamamoto, Ito, Helu, Matsuhashi, Mimura, Uchida, Lotoahea
This is a potential banana skin game for us, IMO we cannot treat Japan with contempt and select a completely different team from last weekend, we should try to bed in a couple of alternatives to our first choices in crucial positions.

Agree. he has made some ground attacking off a dominant scrum, but nothing much else. Baldwin is making more ground

We've seen this before, we see it every year, and it's always against a team like Tonga, Fiji and now Japan it seems!

Re: Wales v Japan 19/11/16
That try proves the problem
They go route 1 and attack the breakdown channel straight after half time. Shows they can't see what is in front of them and need the coaches to point it out. Why aren't Sam or Lydiate or AWJ pouting this out?

Those teams don't generally have this much experience though

We're just played out, we've played the same way for so long we no longer know how to play whats in front of us.
I really want Japan to win now so that Howley has to go.

I believe a Griff posted a team line-up earlier, it was a very experienced one as far as I could tell. I remember seeing a fairly good team against Tonga this one time, and also against Samoa though this one was quite a few years back. I am not quite sure what the issue is but it's happening every year now. I have to admit that SH ref's don't help because they will not rightly reward set-piece dominance.

Wow, great result for Italy! But as Wales are this bad and SA are hurting, I can only see one result in our next fixture - especially with this coaching staff. This year we might be the only team in the top 10 with a worse coach than SA.

Losing 5 games in a row and playing unattractive rubgy wasn't enough to get Howley fired before. Neither was overseeing the first ever loss to Japan enough for them to show McBryde the door. It's very depressing and I see now why fans don't want to pay to go and watch Wales in a live game.

With Ireland and England home, and Scotland, Italy and France away, you'd have to say Wales are on for bottom place in the Six nations. We'll be lucky to avoid the whitewash based on the poor efforts of our players. It's like time warping back to the 90's.

In fairness to McBryde, that was a Welsh team while 10 were away with the Lions and another 10 were rested or injured.

From what I remember Wales606, McBryde selected the team and opted to leave some experienced players at home when they were really needed. He opted for Welsh premiership players instead so for me, there is no in fairness to McBryde. A lot of seasons we've had a wobbly set piece and I can't quite figure why he was hired in the first place.
In the mean team England are trouncing Fiji and scoring lots of tries.

In fairness nothing... Mcbryde left the second team at home and took the third team. He left so many players behind like Ryan, Duncan Jones, Henson, etc and took a load of kids and new caps, many of which had no chance of ever establishing themselves as internationals.
Hell Spratt was 27 and getting his first cap and he was a reserve who barely played for the Ospreys. While they took and capped a 17 year old winger from Neath! Wales gave away cheap caps to undeserving players.

Why the hell do we just keep kicking the ball long and giving it right back to them. Whats the point?
Anyone would think the damn ball was on fire the way we seem to want the Japanease to have it.

Dire.
Sack Howley, McBride and Edwards
Drop Cuthbert
Drop anyone whose form drops so badly.
Bring in some new blood.
Rebuild. This team can't adapt, so get a new one.

Very glad I've missed today's match by the way, I come on here to receive updates. I've decided not to watch it when I get home. I will watch and most likely enjoy Ireland beating up New Zealand again.
