Carolan is no longer with the U20s. He has taken up a position with Connacht. Attack coach or something like that.

The u19s beat Japan yesterday. 50 - 31

Three uncapped 10s can't offer much hope!

Still it will be interesting to see whether Curtis can live up to his highlights reels.

They'll have to settle in quickly but at least Stewart is there to smooth things over and the centers, Frawley and Mullin are also there. Tynan has been tearing it up at UBL level apparently and Dean was part of the squad all along but got injured. Johnston is a big loss, not sure I'd say the same about McPhillips.

Brothers. Sean is in the Connacht academy and another U19 which I just added to the U19 list.

McPhillips more than acquitted himself last year, its not like they had a good tournament or anything

Hes actually a fantastic kicker of the ball however he hasn't mastered the 10 position yet and keeps kicking the ball away. The Irish backs hardly got a touch of the ball against Italy and Scotland because McPhilips kept kicking the ball, he stands too deep, his passing isn't the best either and he isn't a great defender. Thats probably sounds harsher than I mean it to but he isn't the finish product yet.

All things he can work on. He looks similar to Ross Byrne but with more pace.

Was the kicking not a tactical issue? I always thought McPhillips was a good passer of the ball but he does stand too deep. His attacking game reminds me a lot of Jackson

He struggled with his passing, positioning etc. By contrast Johnston came in for the last 3 games (against France Wales and England ) and transformed how the team played. As TGA said, its something McPhilips can work on but looking ahead to the U20 world cup I think Ireland will do better with a 10 that gets the backline moving. I havn't a clue what the other 3 are like tbh.

Curtis is a runner, maybe too much - based on his South African highlights, but they're not going to focus on his positional kicking!

What a finish to the game, Ireland scoring 18 unanswered points until Italy scored a try with about 4 mins left and scored a wonky conversation.

Ireland get penalty with less than a minute left and its missed

21-22 win for Italy

Decent side prof but they will want to perform a hell of a lot better than they did against Italy. Already feel they have too much to do to get through.

They have to beat the baby blacks to get through. They'll need to improve to beat Scotland. At this stage I'm just hoping for a good performance. Good to see Doris back.

Scotland eventually run out 4 point winners. Ireland 28 - 32 Scotland.

Got a horrible feeling that the Baby Blacks will destroy Ireland now.

It was back and forth, everytime Ireland got within touching distance the Scottish lads just upped a gear and put more distance between them. Some very good players coming through for Scotland.

We look a very badly coached and underprepared team.

carpet baboon wrote:How did Curtis play when he came on?

He set up a try straight away but then went off with a head injury after 10 min on the pitch.

I think we are, the squad is cobbled together because of injuries etc and the coaching team has seen some changes so everyone is essentially starting from scratch

Its a shame because it could be detrimental in the long term to the development of some of the players

From the highlights Curtis puts in a good flat pass to put Kelly through for his try. He then reels in the Scottish wing to stop him scoring but gets hurt.

The team looks at sea defensively so it's not a bad thing for them to face easier opposition in the later stages and they still get the experience of facing NZ

How's Curtis qualified for Ireland?
And what's happened to the prop from Leinster who looked very good a couple of seasons ago for the u20? An absolute beast of a fella

Do you mean Andrew Porter? Is he still young enough?

No not porter, his name made me think of an eastern European weight lifter.

Ahhh the only things I could find on him were some highlight feels and that he's a decent cricketer
