The Trump Presidency

First topic message reminder :

Well, since the last thread got terminated, I thought I'd open a new one as I think Trump's Presidency is potentially quite an important event (one way or the other), so we should talk about it.

Let's at least try to argue points raised rather than sling any personal insults (not that I mind).

To kick off, what on Earth is that Kellyanne Conway doing promoting Ivanka Trump's fashion line and does the Donald seriously think it's OK to weigh in as he's done??? With any luck, some legal eagles will tear Conway down somewhat and someone (anyone!) will convince Trump to stop tweeting. In fact, does anyone in the Administration know what they're doing? A less suitable press officer than Spicer is hard to imagine but to be fair to the guy, it must be difficult fielding media comments when he's having to make it up on the hoof.

I disagree, he has created enough doubt about the issue to deflect everything other than an absolutely compelling criminal case of collusion which I can assure you will never be established.

Having a man like Trump - a P%^&k in your words- in that office hardly shows it respect.

And Trump isn't presiding over a better economy either .7% GDP growth first quarter...the worst in 3 years. But you all seem to believe things are on the up so thats ok.

But I agree the Dems picked the wrong, er , man. She's the reason we're all in this mess.

You earn respect with your actions, you don't deserve purely by being in a position of power, he's a loathsome human being who epitomises America.

Honestly watching Trump, the plastic almost comedic expressions, inarticulate protestations and shady maneuvering, the obsession with power and controversial polarization of opinion, the vernacular rhetoric and sinisterly confrontational style coupled with the protests outside Trump Tower, this is like the next Batman movie.

I do find the swamp thing funny, if I were rooting around in a swamp and came across Trump then I would not be in the least surprised

Yes I'm sure they are but they got it so badly wrong with Clinton it suggests to me they have lost the ability to gauge the temperature of the American people. One hopes Trump's own behavior will be his undoing, rather like Nixon but I think he is a lot more cunning more cunning than Nixon

I live in Canada and visit the US at least monthly, I do business there and have many friends and acquaintances and I speak form a direct knowledge of what the feelings are here. You're in the UK and have been for years.

Trussman, as an American do you have a feel for how much a significant proportion of the rest of the world dislikes the USA or as an American do you not have to care what the rest of the world thinks?

Reason I ask is because if it is the 'leader of the free world' it isn't leading it very well. Personally I think that this description is a whole load of bunk which really only Americans believe. America strikes me as an overgrown schoolboy in th playground with much too. much muscle for his immature brain to handle and without the wit to know how to behave amongst the other older more mature kids who may be smaller but have been around much longer.

Can't argue with that......Charismatic narcissist......Charisma opens doors.

He might be charismatic behind closed doors and over dinner (can't really comment as I haven't, and wouldn't want, the opportunity), but his public persona is anything but - just a mouthy boor who keeps denying anything's wrong, ever, with what he does.

Dress it up how you like but he's a larger than life personality.

Hard to have the success Trump has had in business and in tv without being charismatic.

As I've said elsewhere he knows his target market and how to speak to them. More than can be said for a lot of politicians

Trump claiming he's been exonerated by Comey 3 times...you don't get exonerated unless there is an allegation so there is an investigation then, wonder what they've got.
