Only following intermittently on cricinfo but it seems Sri Lanka are soon going to be too much behind the rate to be able to turn it round. Is that right?

Would be great for the comp to have another upset like this, and would mean that in the last round of games in this group anyone could go through..

It's Lanka's game to lose now...a silly give way wicket

Two silly run outs put India back in control - game rests on the wicket of Matthews
From a neutral standpoint a Sri Lanka win is what's needed for these final round of group games

This group would be blown wide open if sri lanka won this game..would give SA aother chance..who let's be honest need to look at their bowling attack, they need more control from their seamers, too many wayward deliveries in there attack and extras...they have a wealth of options to choose from..

I can see only England overhauling that type of score 5 out 10 times against this Indian team.
Others like SA and Aus would have a hit rate of 2 to 3 times..
and NZ 1 out 10 times
As i was saying KP, your score was under par...

Well below par it seems - Sri Lanka doing this at a canter despite throwing two wickets away and one batsman retiring hurt

Re: Champions trophy 2017 discussion thread
I think India need to reassess their approach with their batting personally - yes they did fine, but when you're scoring 100 off the last 10 overs, that should be taking to a score of 350+, not to a score of 320ish. One of Rohit/Dhawan needs to go harder in those opening 10 overs, try get the team off to a flyer. And ultimately, if they're going to be in for 120/130 balls, they need to end up scoring at a strike rate of well over 100+

so much under par...that Lanka had to make their highest score chasing in their 40 year history to get past it
On a serious note....no one expected Lanka to chase and that too so nonchalantly.......the expected and likely collapse also never came.
Even the Indian team got carried away with it's own perceived strength....and absolutely so once they scored 320.....they thought game is over.
And cricket the glorious game it is...pulls the mightiest down...
so here we are with one round to go 7 teams are still in reckoning for 3 s.f spots

Re: Champions trophy 2017 discussion thread
Didn't see that result coming, I thought such a run chase was way beyond Sri Lanka. England would love either Sri Lanka or Pakistan in the semi-final. As good as those teams can be on their day they both also have the capability to not even turn up. India and SA don't often cough up easy wins like the other two do

Jinxed him, run out in a mix up with Taylor.
Thought they'd gotten those out of their systems - that used to happen a lot a couple of years back

I've got Kane in my Bru fantasy lite - at least he outscored Guptil so a decent haul even if Taylor scores big. Just need the Bangla top 3 to fail.
I had Ronchi as my "other" batsman - so much for backing the flat track bully

NZ really lack batting outside of the top 4. Surely there's got to be better players than Broom out there? Anderson being completely out of form isn't helping though - 18 runs in 3 matches so far

I'd drop Broom, put Neesham up to 5, Anderson to 6 & bring in de Grandhomme (or Munro who sadly isn't in the squad) - Anderson needs to be higher than 6 to build an innings before going big, CDG can hit from the get go. And he'd be a useful bowler on English pitches

Re: Champions trophy 2017 discussion thread
That sounds like an improvement - NZ feel a bit like 4 out, all out with this line up. Broom made some runs today but is the kind of player the opposition are happy to see stay in as he won't hurt them by suddenly upping the scoring rate

You've go a chance if Boult/and or Southee get it right at the start, both can run through the top order on their day - I am not writing NZ off just yet, in fact I've got a sneaking feeling this is going to be the first tight game of the tournament

NZ proving once again their tail starts at five...OK , Broom got a few this time , but still...
I do rate their bowlers so not awarding the game to Bangladesh yet. But I wonder on this effort if Bangladesh might not prove better opposition for whoever wins the other group knockouts than the Kiwis ? Of course they have to not only haul this total in but also hope England beat Australia tomorrow ; but who'd have thought they'd be in with a serious chance of making the semis at all ? Especially after losing their first match .
Expect NZ to fight tooth and nail though.

Then again , who needs batsmen when you have Southee and Boult
Might be something in this theory that this pitch gets progressively harder to bat on , eh ? Looks as if NZ got it right at the toss...

53/4 after 15. Though NZ have used up 7 overs of Southee & 5 of Boult.
That said, Milne is also looking lethal

Century stand between Shakib & Mahmadullah at a decent clip, Neesham & Anderson going for a few runs sharing 5th bowler duties
133/4 off 29, NZ were 148/2 at the same stage, albeit about to lose Williamson

Not wanting Australia to win but would rather see Lynn get a game tomorrow in place of Finch. Finch has been pretty awful for a long time now. Lynn had a decent IPL and seems a pretty good player

BD was in my list to watch out for for a s.f slot.....extremely improved side.......with a much improved ODI win percentage over their last 30 games
and have won tests vs Eng at home and vs NZ in NZ this season
my wish-script
BD win today
Eng beat Aus
Ind beats SA
Lanka beats Pak
India beats BD in semis
Lanka beats Eng in semis
India beats Lanka, wins the cup and avenges the defeat

Bangladesh's to lose now...bit disappointed by the crowds in Cardiff so far...don't think it was full for the England game and it's barely half full here. Would've been better to have the third ground be Manchester or Headingley surely? (seeing as Lords is unavailable for some reason)

Re: Champions trophy 2017 discussion thread
I caught the end, highlights will be on Iplayer
Bangladesh new Zealand are always crackers, 30-4, I was kindof surprised new zealand were running on very them, as bangladesh beat them in Ireland, but thought it may be because Boult and southee were not playing, mahmadullah at full flow is one of the better players to watch in world cricket
I think him and tamim in wc 15 had a good partnership and it was a great watch, as tamim and mahmadullah are one of my favourite players to watch
This win will be great if Australia gets knocked out, reminds me of 05, when they lost to bd in Cardiff, showed Australia could be rattled... Still the best cricketing summer ever

Looks like a talent, shame he will probably never get many chances to test himself at a higher level. How bad for the Windies though, not in the CT so instead playing and getting pummelled by Afghanistan. Arguably a new low for them
