Re: Australia v Scotland, 17 June
Actually a very complete performance. Solid in defence and showed great attacking lines and pressured the Aussies into mistakes.
Poor from the Aussies to not take the points when they were on offer with more than enough time left though. Seriously underestimated the Scottish defence.

Got to say Australia really were poor - terrible kicking and why didn't they go for points?

Re: Australia v Scotland, 17 June
Yay!!
Fine performance from Scotland. Defensively in the second half they were terrific, considering how much possession Australia had. Watson and Barclay were excellent at the breakdown.
Russell just adds so much to the attack of any team. Biggar ahead of him (and Ford) makes less and less sense as the weeks go by.
The Toonie Tombola worked . Thought Tonks was solid enough, don't think he can get too much blame for the Folau try, though maybe should have got off the ground a bit earlier to disrupt. Obviously a bit of a makeshift at full back, but did his job today IMO. Jones played a key part in the Watson try (which was a lovely team effort) too. But basically everyone put in a pretty good shift. For me MOM would be between Barclay, Watson and Russell.

Well 3 of their best players were with the Lions including their captain and they still won in Sydney.
Take Folau and a couple of Australias top players out of their team and they would probably struggle

We were without Dickinson, R Gray, Laidlaw, Huw Jones, Mark Bennett, Tim Visser,Tommy Seymour, Sean Maitland and Stuart Hogg - all who would likely be in the 23.

Ah, RDW my amigo , that's the Luvvie in you speaking. They are in our best 23 so most coaches would select them in our 23. But we are now in the age of The Magic Tombola. Strap yourself in it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Some of these players should have been called up days ago, but it's probably too late now. Want some advice? Keep playing for yourselves! Great result and great start to life under Townsend. It will be interesting to see if this carries on into next season.

Re: Australia v Scotland, 17 June
We probably need to give Greg Tonks a bit of a shout out. He certainly confounded critics and had a very decent game including a very good assist in the Watson try.
I think Folou would have scored that try against just about anyone in the world, so I am not going to be to hard on him about that.
Tonks, Jones and Hughes all did ok in fact, defensively very solid. None of them are going to be regular starters but showed that they can step in when needed.

I'd tell Gatland to do one. Get some of the Wales tourists to hold bloody tackle bags.
Both should travel to Fiji and help make it a 3 out of 3 tour.

All four of the welsh boys called up are good club players at best, which is what i find most confusing, they're not proven at test level (a weak win over Tonga does not count). Hopefully holding tackle bags is all they'll be doing.

Re: Australia v Scotland, 17 June
Dell being called up to the Lions
No really, I like the guy, and he's a fine servant to Scottish rugby, but not sure about this one. I suppose he's at least as deserving as Davey or Hill though...
Russell's call-up would be well deserved, and long overdue. He's created/scored more tries in two games than the Lions have scored throughout the tour so far.
I suppose from a Scotland viewpoint it's better for him to be going after the Aus game rather than the Fiji one, but it would still be a shame to lose him if all he's doing is holding tackle bags and bench warming in mid-week games. Can't see Gats ever picking him in a Test 23...

Wrong. Two of them might be club players at best, but have a long way to go in their international career, whilst the other two are proven internationals. I think Gats has lost the plot calling these up but you sound unbelievably bitter with this comment, the usual we've come to expect.

I get that Gatland needs to bring in some reinforcements. However if there is no chance they can force their way into the tests what's the point?
Corbs in 2013, Croft in 2009 and Ryan Jones in 2005. Lions who came in as injuries mounted and made a difference.

Well Russell might feel he has a chance to prove his worth and at least get on the bench for one of the tests. The term cannon fodder springs to mind with some of the Wales boys as they won't make the test team.

Russell will not be given a bench place for the tests. That would mean Gatland accepting he was wrong.

Scotland, without seven or eight first team players, beat the Criminal Element in Sydney.

Austalia did play like they had met in the bar just before the game but great credit to Scotland for a ferocious defence, especially in the 2nd half which pressured Australia into many mistakes and taking their tries very well, including an end of the earth special that only existed in the minds eye of FR when it was conceived.
Another veryclose again between these to rivals, but you could not say we were not worth the win.

Barclay and the Mish absolutely bossed the breakdown.
Russell ran a masterclass at 10. Kicked well, defensively very solid, and ran some amazing lines.
Taylor and Dunbar formed a very effective partnership.
The back 3, lacking test match experience played well. Hughes was quiet but showed up when necessary, Lee Jones was a critical player in the Mish's try.
Tonks had a solid game, however he had a tough time against Folou in the air, but he (Folou) was unplayable for large swathes of the first half.
My man of the match Finn Russell. Followed by a couple toss between Watson, Hooper and Barclay.
