Fair point. I'll take Ali over Trump though, any day, even if he did say some pretty hideous things about some of his opponents .TRUSSMAN66 wrote:navyblueshorts wrote:I think you'll find there are many who, like Trump, bluster and gloss over anything negative as a function of their insecurity. Insecure - Not confident......unsure about oneself...
Not easy to be strong at negotiating and a success in business ......and survive the slings and arrows of a Presidential run without those qualities....
OK, maybe not insecurity. Just a narcissist with some nasty lines in xenophobia and sexism thrown in for good measure - a true paragon of leadership and the ideal for POTUS. There was me, trying to at least be a little generous...

Unless you are thick as shoite which also seems to be an eminently useful characteristic in the case of your pal.
Moving on...
You have to, avoidance is the only way to deal with what is to you apparently a characteristic to be admired, I'd suggest you even identify with it. Exactly what the Buffoon does himself. Lets call it Fake Posts.

Actually, I wouldn't give a damn but for the fact that America is a global power and what he does can affect so many. The lives of so many at the whim of someone who only cares about himself...
But you don't know he only cares about himself....anymore than you know he is insecure.
Stick to points you can prove or you become as pointless as Gwlad.
His behaviour fits perfectly with insecurity and I'll continue to suspect that's what he is, but you're right, I can't know for certain.
he isn't insecure, he has a superiority complex whilst also being pathologically ignorant and arrogant.

Don't talk about facts and say he's worth 4 billion. Nobody knows how much he's worth, he won't reveal his tax returns.
He also didn't write The Art of the Deal. He's just credited with writing it.
Him having a beautiful wife is not an "accomplishment".

That's the Electoral College system for you, he targeted the states he needed to win and if they used PR for instance it would change how they go about campaigning.

Breitbart is huge and it was Mercer's Cambridge Analytica etc who set up the targeted Facebook/Twitter feeds etc. Of course the Arch-Egocentrist was a part of it all, but to propose that it was all his master plan is laughable.Scottrf wrote:Nobody who is successful is scared of failure.navyblueshorts wrote:TRUSSMAN66 wrote:More conjecture....Stick to the facts..

As for the beautiful wife, I'm probably doing her an injustice, but to paraphrase Mrs. Merton: "So, what first attracted you to the billionaire, Donald Trump?"

Intrigued that he's also credited for the TV series too. I'm not entirely sure I'd call him a very good businessman.
I don't doubt that he's somewhat intelligent, quite like Katie Price is also somewhat intelligent and many other people who others say are stupid, and he sure knows how to indulge/please/placate the people who rather (and I mean media and online rather than here) sycophantically follow him.
I don't really think he's the issue for much of it, though. Much like Brexit, large and loud groups supported a side and followed it wherever I took them, looking to win like it was a sport.

People voted for him for a lot of reasons..Positive and negative.
The fact is there are a lot of people smarter and more intelligent...They have been far less succesful.

Re: The Trump Presidency
OK, overturning the starting odds is 'impressive', but I put it to you that Trump won because of dissatisfaction with the status quo, austerity and because he was backed by entities like Breitbart etc. He had zero thought through strategy, although I suspect Mercer et al had exactly that. He lied through his teeth, behaved like a pr*ck the whole campaign and desperate/daft people lapped it up even though many must have known it was pretty much all BS. Bit like the £350m per week for the NHS and all that over here...TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Intrigued that he's also credited for the TV series too. It doesn't matter how he won...Doesn't matter if he invented the Apprentice..Doesn't matter if he didn't write the books himself.
Maybe he was lucky to accumulate great wealth and become a larger than life celebrity..All irrelevant.
I wouldn't criticise Katie Price either..She probably knows more about promotion than any Oxford graduate..
Worth 40m more than most topless models...She ain't stupid.

It was a good achievement. Not sure I buy into him being a brilliant businessman as it reminds me a little of the IT Crowd. To paraphrase all I had when I started my business was a small idea and 4 billion pounds.
I would love to know how much of his speeches are his writers and how much is him getting distracted and waffling though!

Wasn't criticising Katie Price, in fact you've made my point for me whilst saying I was criticising her!
Intelligence is a complicated beast: top sportsman are a perfect example. The way, say, Wayne Rooney's brain works as he plays football shows incredible intelligence. Yet someone really good at quizzes is seen as more intelligent even though you'd argue a great general knowledge is somewhat useless.
Trump isn't stupid, is what I'm saying, whilst I also think he's an idiot. But that may be down to my slight different definitions.

I wasn't accusing you of criticising Price someone further up the thread mentioned her...So the first bit of your post is irrelevant though perhaps I should have been clearer..
Not really interested in a debate on intelligence either....
I'm pointing out it takes an extraordinary individual to overturn the power of two party politics and become President without having any ground game......The GOP threw its weight behind Jeb, Rubio and Cruz then reluctantly accepted him.....Clinton out spent him 5-1.....
He still won......It is a helluva achievement.

Considering the Presidential pardons other Presidents have handed out it's no big deal..
But of course you wouldn't know that and I can't be bothered educating you.
Leader Approval ratings....
IFOP....Macron 36%
MORI....May 34%
GALLUP...Trump 37%
Merkel is 60% Corbyn 42%...But the others put the President in perspective..
More jobs..Standard of living up....counters inept leadership.
For sure Trump has nothing to do with those positive things but you can own anything on.... Your Watch..

Saying that others have misused Presidential powers in the past is not a defense for Trump misusing it.

Like Iran-Contra people being pardoned under Bush sr which stunk............I was merely pointing out that misuse of the tool has always been widespread..
Silly to assume I was saying two wrongs make a right...but predictable.....You take things out of context regularly.
Not sure why you're being so snarky.
Saying that others have misused Presidential powers in the past is not a defense for Trump misusing it.
I didn't bring it up and I'm not being snarky..............Just if someone is going to moan about the pardon I just think context is good.
You read things like "He is the worst President in history"...........From people who can name about 5 out of 45......
Be glad I think you and Navy are worth being corrected and not ignored......It is a compliment.

Wait a moment, how is this even news?
Considering the Presidential pardons other Presidents have handed out it's no big deal..
But of course you wouldn't know that and I can't be bothered educating you.

I despise Trump, but there is a witch hunt of trying to throw anything at him when others have done similar prior.
'Trump's done a mean thing'
'Obama also did that mean thing'
'But Obama was a good guy so we let him'.
Correct. That's the only thing that bothers me about the Trump presidency.

Nixon got more votes than JFK............Gore got more votes than Bush............
Over here UKIP got 13% in 2015 and the Libs got 8%ish which saw 8 LIberals and one Ukiper elected....I don't know if other systems are better though....PR could lead to gridlock.
If Clinton could do the Election again I think she would sack whoever told her to campaign in places like Texas (That were not needed) and instead visit the rust belt more often....I'm afraid like Theresa May found out you can't take anything for granted....
They did..

Re: The Trump Presidency
A little light reading....
PPP.........Do you trust the President more than Cable news ??
Trump 39%
News 56%
MSU.....Do you agree with Trump that the media and journalists are the enemy of the American people ??
Yes 34%
No 59%
HHP.....Do you approve of the way the media treat the President ??
Yes 47%
No 53%
HHP....Do you agree with the way Trump treats the media ??
Yes 41%
No 59%...
Trump was pretty much 50/50 when polled about whether he was as trusted as the media a few months ago which suggests a certain corrosion in his core support.......
