Michael Flynn has promised his "full cooperation with the Mueller team" and is prepared to testify that - as a candidate - Donald Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians"

Hmmm he might just be untouchable now, unless something can be done to discredit him, if Trump fires him after Flynn's statement then the game is up.

More fake news, that has now been 'clarified' by ABC.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Touché. However, Trump now does the opposite of most people in the States (i.e. 'take the 5th') and self-incriminates himself with one of his dumber tweets, suggesting he knew Flynn had lied to Pence and the FBI when he initially claimed he was sacked only because he'd lied to Pence. What an exemplar POTUS he's turning out to be ...Duty281 wrote:Samo wrote:navyblueshorts wrote:Really? That would be interesting. And even Trump endorsed a different republican candidate.

Yep. Have to wonder what that half were thinking. U.S. politics seems to have entered into an extremely polarised state. People would rather vote for 'one of their own', no matter what skeletons he/she might have in their closet or even that they might be incompetent and the 'opposition' candidate has better policies. We're heading that way in the U.K. too. Sorry times.GSC wrote:Moore is literal scum but still got half the vote. It's not that funny sadly

It has always been thus. Most people vote for the party (and in turn its national leader) rather than on the merit (or lack thereof) of their individual local candidate.
My grandmother knows little, and cares even less, about politics, but if she stood for the Labour Party somewhere in Liverpool or the Tory party somewhere in Dorset, she would get elected.

Think the bigger blow for Trump was failing to get Luther Strange past Roy Moore. Not even he can rein in the storm he created. Moore lost because he was utterly toxic. Strange wouldve cruised home

You need to understand that Alabama is a Christian right state...It is red through and through..Socially Conservative to its core..
Which means subjects like Abortion.. Pornography etc to many are sins and those positions outweigh participant bios in Elections to many right wingers (Roe v Wade)....Factor in racial factors and tax policy too by all means.
Jones scraped up the soft red vote and floaters did well to win at all.
Congratulations to him

Totally understand your points, Truss.
Still doesn't make the fact that a much-accused child abuser got almost half the votes utterly shocking.
But, as we've seen before, you apparently can be a child abuser and a conservative Christian at the same time.

Why is it shocking??...If he is guilty he resigns and they vote for another low tax..trickle down..small govt..anti abortion and anti pornography hypocrite..
Charles Manson if he was a Republican probably gets 40 percent in Alabama and 40 percent in Vermont as a Democrat.

Of course it is.
Are you unable to distinguish between the assumption of guilt and not wanting an accused diddler in the Senate?
You can't just not take accusations like that into account when casting a vote, can you?

You are, of course, correct Scottrf. However, I look forward to Moore, Trump etc suing their accusers successfully because, you know, they're innocent etc. Certainly, Trump's never jumped on anyone via legal means at the slightest provocation has he? Wonder what's different this time?

Re: The Trump Presidency
If Trump survives till 2020....Parties are very reluctant to replace an incumbent....
If I was going to bet on a Republican in 2020 I'd bet on Pence keeping the White House.
1. Chances are Trump won't last till then and he will be President.
2. Pence can only restore dignity to the office....Like Obama after Bush..
3. The Economy is improving and very few Presidents lose when people have more money in their pockets.
Liz Warren will be a good bet for the Dems should Trump stay and fight 2020 or if a Ryan type wins the nomination should Trump not get re-selected.
1. Time for a Woman
2. She will get Sanders approval and he is polling better than Biden.

I didn't say whether or not I thought it was a good thing; merely that, from Donald's perspective, this is his major legislative achievement of the year.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Maybe someone should start a Kids Party of America. KPA. Lots of votes in something like that.
Also, think of what all the extra popcorn and iced slushies would do to the economy in the run up to the Election.
They could buy the Presidency if they wanted to... with all those kids having generated all those funds.
And the kids would also have some left over to give away as free movie tickets.
It would be great having a 22 y.o. kid with 2/3 of a science degree (unfinished) but with top computer skills running the country!
On the other hand, if there's a run on double choc malts and cheeseburgers.... then I think we're stuck with the Don.
Wow!
That would be like having the keys to the locker room and first go at towel lashing the skinny white kid from Missouri who just arrived at college!

This is the same Vietnam draft-dodging Trump who's claiming someone (a 54-y/o 'School Resource Officer'; not some SWAT expert touting a sub-machine gun) could well be a coward when confronted with a situation where a wingnut has an assault rifle to his handgun. Re: The Trump Presidency
Well. Based on this thread (yes I read back, that's what happens when you're bored at work ) that a lot of people are desperate for Trump to fail (and no longer be President), so desperate that instead of sitting back, and letting him fail on his own, they're throwing everything at him to make him fail.
As a result, instead of those who voted for Trump feeling let down by his incompetence, they're pushed into being defensive of Trump by all of the anti-Trump people and they end up looking at Trump in a better light because the left wing vitriol is a worse prospect in their opinion.
If you think Trump is that bad, let him be that bad and be proved right, instead of ramming it down people's throats and turning people against you, instead of against Trump.
