Re: The Trump Presidency
US Economy grew 4.1% in the last quarter....The economy is in excellent shape....
French Economy grew 0.2% in the same period...
Low unemployment....Standard of living up and his approval rating on his handling of the Economy is in positive figures..
Should really be a shoo in for a second term if he didn't self harm....

Yeah. Obama did OK didn't he? Pity the incumbent moron will benefit. Only good bit is he's limited to two terms, max. It's a nightmare the US and World will eventually wake up from.

You're talking about the socialist Obama!? Trump is dismantling everything that man did. One is a billionaire, the other an actor. One capitalist the other communist.

Hundred of thousands of jobs created.....Standard of living has risen....GDP records being smashed.
For Trump to dismantle anything Obama did....Obama would have had to have done something..

The stimulus package which helped halt the global recession (and basically amnestied a generation of crooked bankers) breathed itself into existence, then?
Obama came in at a 9% unemployment rate, left at a 5% one. His last 12 months the economy created 2.01 million jobs, Trump's first twelve months there were 1.84 million jobs created. Which is good, but I struggle to see how he gets credited for that, while Obama apparently didn't do anything?
GDP records will always be smashed... that's how inflation works.
For fairness sake, though, Trump has certainly been an economic success,
BUT
Number of people on food stamps - up
The Deficit - up 11.5% in 18 months

Presidents own their Economy....Always have..
Coolidge could be blamed for the Wall Street Crash but it happened on Hoover's watch..
Coolidge is a Top 10 President...Hoover is a Bottom 5..
Record breaking day on Wall Street Friday....
If the guy wasn't such a wally....He would only use his Twitter to show stats on the Economy...
He is in Positive figures on that...People vote with their wallet in Elections generally..
Why Anti Semitism won't hurt Corbyn too much..

True, but presidents, even US presidents, aren't really the cause of economics. Barring, of course, implementation of game-changing policies. Bush was wrong-place, wrong-time for the 2007 meltdown, and it will probably haunt his presidency as much as anything he did, barring maybe invading the wrong country,or Katrina. Trump's biggest economic directive have been the tax cuts and the tariff war. US inflation hit a six-year high last month, with this month's figures to be announced this week. While an American staple brand like Harley Davidson has already claimed that the Trade War is directly to blame for them potentially cutting jobs. The tax cuts are more interesting. I reckon they have artificially marked up the Dow 30 ($460 billion in stock buybacks from companies last quarter),which probably would have been at $30 000 had Trump not caused a tailspin once a month for most of the year with Tweets (Tweets which he of course has long declared official presidential communications). I think the tax cuts are the big gamble. The US is big and strong enough to withstand a trade war, even if they lose it (whatever the metric for that is). But Trump has basically bet that companies having increased profit margins will trickle down into salaries, which will decrease social welfare dependence of employees, thus reducing the deficit? It's not worked so far this year with the debt forecast to be $775bn for the calendar year, and interest on public debt increasing due to the aforementioned inflation. Not economically inclined enough to be able to tell you if it will work any better down the line, but seeing as the Russia investigation and the Campaign funds investigation nets are both circling in, with basically every second person who was formerly in the Trumpsphere either imprisoned, found guilty of a crime, or having taken a plea deal... I reckon there probably won't be a second term to tell just how well this would have worked out.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Bush like Blair will be remembered for the Iraq war....
Life isn't fair....The seeds of the Banking crisis were sown before Brown but it went sour on his watch !!...Just like it did for poor Grover Cleveland in the 1890s...(Only President to get married in the WH)
Trump will likely be the first President In history to score well on the Economy and lose the Election...Primarily because he won't stay off Twitter....If he takes part in WH2020..
4/6 to be impeached of course but factored into those odds is the belief the Democrats will take the Senate...Takes 2/3 of the Senate to agree for impeachment but less GOP support would be needed than at present..
Not sure they will quite manage it and the GOP may not have the balls to upset the Trump voters who like Corbyn's are not the usual rank and file..
My guess is that Trump will cut an agreement to serve one term and they will let it play out..

The fact that politicians' records are soured by things out of their control or are credited for things likewise out of their control shows just how dumb the typical electorate is. That and the fact that the same electorate has the attention span of a fruit fly and the memory of a goldfish.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Bush like Blair will be remembered for the Iraq war....

US banks?
Didn't I hear something about them things 10 or so years ago? Trump must be too clean a character to do biz with coz they certainly know how to horse trade with the criminal end of the spectrum...given some of the crims were CEOs of the banks themselves.
Don't you just love the Disneyfied version of American "Liberal" Normalcy that's doing the rounds since Trump was elected. "Before this eejit was elected, we woz a Paradise of Morals and Virtue!!!" Yes, the USA was Utopia before the Orange One got in.

The reason US banks don't want to deal with him is that they don't want to lose money. Morals don't actually enter into that conversation.

US manufacturing at 14 year high..
Growth 4.1%....
No 1 Largest Economy by nominal GDP in 2017...
Unemployment at lowest rate since 1969...
Wages up 3% in the last 12 months....
President's own their Economy...and if this idiot kept out of sight and off Twitter he'd very likely be re-elected..

Bob Woodward's book on life in the Trump Whitehouse looks interesting.
Won't make a difference in terms of his core support or with a developmentally retarded, proto-fascist like Secretfly, but it's good to have some kind of testament to the chaos and insanity associated with Trump.

Meanwhile in Trumpworld, a Trump insider released a New York Times Op-ed referring to themselves as part of the "Resistance". Gutless, cowardly tbh. My suspicion is someone has seen the flames approaching and decided to anonymously release this as either;
-Trump doesn't get impeached or booted out in two years, and you remain anonymous
or
- Trump does get impeached or voted out and at which point you reveal yourself to have been an active member of the fight against Trump and thus somewhat keep yourself more relevant than an active member of a one-term government would be

Just making the obvious point you own good news on your watch..
Standard of living is the number one driver....
Trump won't be impeached unless the midterms are a rout..
He is polling better than the GOP and until evidence suggests his core support is deserting him....Senators won't risk their seats..

They predict a 5/6 chance of Democrats taking it in November.....
Senate...10% chance of Democrats gaining more than 3 seats and a 10% chance of Republicans gaining more than 3......with an obvious 80% chance of a result somewhere in the middle........

New ratings show that CNN's ratings have crashed 15% while Fox news are up 4%.....
Perhaps if CNN didn't hit-job the President 24/7 perhaps their fortunes would improve..

Re: The Trump Presidency
Yep, if CNN was a news organisation and not a Democratic Party Media Machine then it might be seen as a reliable news organisation.
But then again, CNN isn't alone across the globe, is it. News on most networks (including the BBC) has now become nothing more than codified propaganda directed at the right or the left of Jeremy Vine's swingometer.
There is little in the way of neutral 'news' in this world - either online, on TV or in print. Every rag has its editorial police deciding on the articles and the slant given to them. You want to feel the security blanket of Liberalist Democratic opinion (ie, your own opinion repeated back at you) you go to CNN. You want a Trumponian World View to soothe your snowflake allergy and you try to find Alex Jones

Re: The Trump Presidency
Hard to compare a news organisation with Fox.
Take the point about too much editorial/ownership influence on the way news is portrayed though.

Thanks for the numbers. It really is amazing, and I certainly don't get it, how anyone thinks he's worth any sort of approval.
Regardless of his ratings and the utter lie that he can claim any role in the current U.S. economic situation, it'll be interesting to see how the midterms play out.

Re: The Trump Presidency
As Chester James Carville famously coined: "The economy, stupid."
Seems that Democrats have forgotten that morsel and now try to avoid discussion on real everyday-living politics because they know they wouldn't win those debates.
So of course, better to release the black tee-shirted soldiers to keep the politics of sexuality, race and gender identity to the forefront instead.
The polls suggest normal folks just want an economy that works for them.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Some truth in that. Democrats appear to have missed the opportunity to point out that any US economic success currently is nothing to do with Trump or his administration.
The GOP are also a disgrace with their power at any cost behaviour. Only bright point on the horizon is this prat can only serve a maximum of two terms.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Record-setting voter registration. We'll know in a month whether this is the blue wave people keep talking about or the Reds completely shut down all remaining resistance (Except for the supposed Resistance inside the White House, but that is not in any way related to the Blue wave). Stock market has been stagnant the last six months, and the debt has escalated even beyond CBO forecasts, and they were the supposedly the worry warts. On the other hand, unemployment has fell to an all time low, and wages are just about tracking inflation for everyone except government employees, which is hamstrung by the aforementioned debt. Can't call it a month out. The dems certainly won't get enough to impeach Trump though.

Re: The Trump Presidency
2/3 Of the Senate needed to impeach...
Only a few GOP Senate races this year..
My guess is the GOP will keep the Senate..
Can't see Cruz losing Texas and I think the GOP will keep Florida..

An economy that works for the rich, duh. That's why normal people sing about how well the stock market is (well, was) doing despite 84% of the stock being owned by 10% of America. Basic economics, Groucho. You want the thing that works for the rich to work optimally because you will one day be rich, duh.

I put 'normal' in bold because I wondered who SF judges as not normal. I wasn't questioning the bit about the economy.

As opposed to social justice, college-going, black tee-shirted, slogan-chanting "LOOK - AT - US! LOOK - AT - US!" warriors?
