Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
First topic message reminder :
Insert funny image here, probably of a genuine Glaswegian; none of your See-an Canary nonsense here.
Insert an image summing up the pretentiousness of Luvviedom. Grant Gilchrist in a kilt eating shortbread?
Add some statistics; time elapsed, in decades, since Ickle Jonny missed a tackle. Time elapsed, in eons, since someone stayed awake for the whole 80 minutes at the Library.
Make some witty banterish comment to start the ball rolling.
See! How hard was that?

Mata seems to be having a decent game. Good carries. Putting the tackles in

We're right back in it. Keep it controlled and I think we can win this. Cheetahs haven't been great!

Mind when you played school rugby and the ref was from the other school and was clearly the history teacher who really didn't want to be there so was a grumpy arrogant git who just moaned all the time?
This ref is exactly like that

Is this the moment Edinburgh staff realise Bryce just isn't up to it at tighthead?

Well it's not been a doing but after a bright start Edinburgh have fallen away badly this half.
Been some positive moments but a lot of mistakes too!

Was fairly decent as a hooker but seem to have ruined his career with that switch..
To be fair, that man Tom Botha has been a monster at the scrum for the Cheetahs.

shame, trouble is Cockers rugby relies on alot on the forwards and to be missing alot of their main forwards will not help his gameplan.

Hastings took his try well but soft defending from O's. From the sounds of it, Glasgow will get a yellow and are the more likely to score tries (admittedly Glasgow twitter may not be the most balanced of views)

7 unanswered tries at the Liberty. Outstanding work by the 2nd 22 plus Jacko S4C just showed the tries but missed Leo Sarto's on 80. Pretty damn good. Highlights tonight on Warriors TV.

Fairly mad to think that the Os were missing 20 players but Glasgow were missing 24 and still managed to find that performance.

Re: Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
The Glasgow result is a sign of both the improved squad depth that Glasgow have this year, and just how poor Ospreys have been. Looking at both teams on paper I thought Glasgow had a good chance to win, but did not expect that level of thrashing.
In other news, I see Mark Palmer tweeted that Ali Price is set to sign an extension to his contract, which would be good news for Glasgow. With the emergence of George Horne, I do wonder if it would be better for Scotland were Pyrgos to move on though. Since being displaced by Ali last season, he does seem to have lost his mojo somewhat, and I wonder whether that's partly down to no longer regularly starting.

As long as he (Pyrgos) doesn't go to Edinburgh. They ruin every decent player that goes East. Henry P is the perfect controlling SH as a foil to Ali Price/Geo Horne. Warriors want him to stay. And in case you don't believe me watch what he did on Saturday in the last 20.

Re: Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
This is where my "let them go" philosophy comes into play
Price/Pyrgos/Horne are a very balanced trio of scrum halves to have. Each has a different sting to the bow from the others but they are all Scottish qualified.
Realistically, one of them is going to have to move to allow all three to get decent game time. If Price is staying then the candidate most likely to move is Henry but he's not a fashionable scrum half so he's not going to get floods of offers from big clubs.
I can see Henry moving to somewhere like Cardiff. Maybe Newcastle or Worcester?

Hard to believe that no-one would be interested in Henry P, he is still a very good player with a real rugby brain, even if he does not possess the sheer pace of Price and Horne.
Bearing in mind that Ali P is likely to be playing a lot for Scotland over the next two years and Horne G is still developing (at a good rate it has to be said), it would not make bad sense to keep Henry P if he is happy to take more of a squad role. Barletto seems a very decent prospect as well but is only 18 and will take a couple more years to develop into a pro player as well.
If Henry was to go, then we would probably be looking for another SH to replace him unless we accept Niko moving back there and god help the guys playing outside him!

If Pyrgos is happy to stay I think Glasgow should keep him - as Biggee says Glasgow would probably have to sign another 9 if he does leave, and that would either mean shelling out a reasonable amount of money or accepting a lower standard player.

Aye, I don't think it's a bad thing for Glasgow at all: so long as they're still providing two of their 9s to Scotland on a regular basis, it's a good idea to have at least one other quality one in the squad. It was more a case that Pyrgos's form has been a bit off recently, and wondering whether more regular starts would benefit him (and by extension, Scotland).

EDINBURGH SIGN ANOTHER 10.......
granted this lad is young and a convert from league, but good to have a youngster on our books that someone clearly rates.

SRU wrote:Scotland’s new SQ programme welcomed its first signing this week with the arrival of Callum McLelland to Edinburgh Rugby.
The Scottish Qualified (SQ) programme, which replaced the previous Exiles programme in October this year, has broadened the network of scouts across England and abroad to identify players eligible to play for Scotland living outside its borders.
McLelland joins Edinburgh Rugby from Super League team Castleford Tigers where he was a member of their academy, having joined the club in August 2016.
He played rugby union up to the age of 13 before focusing on league, representing Castleford based Lock Lane ARLFC club and attending Castleford Academy School.
The 18 year-old stand-off captained England U16s in league and recently played for the England Academy in their two-match series against France in October, scoring a match winning drop-goal in a 19-18 victory in the opening game.
He qualifies for Scotland through a grandfather born in East Ayrshire.
Scottish Rugby’s Technical Director, Stephen Gemmell, said: “We have had a very positive response to the launch of the new SQ Programme and are delighted to be able to attract a young talented rugby league player to Scottish Rugby.
“We have been monitoring Callum through our programme, utlising Alan Tait’s expertise in Rugby League, for some time and it’s great he has taken the opportunity to sign for Edinburgh Rugby and continue his career development in union, in Scotland.”
Castleford Tigers Head Coach, Daryl Powell, said: “Callum was offered an opportunity with the Scottish SQ programme that he felt he couldn’t turn down. We made an offer to retain him but had to accept his wishes on this occasion.
"Having declined an extension from us we felt it was best for both Callum and the club that we allowed him to take up this offer."
Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach, Richard Cockerhill, said: "Callum is a young and gifted stand-off so it will be exciting to see him continue his development with us as he makes the switch from league into union.
"I’m delighted that he sees his future with Edinburgh – a club, that for him, has the right culture and environment where he can work hard and realise his potential."

Well currently there is no young 10 looking like making a breakthrough any time soon so might as well thrown him into the mix!
Cockerill is making no secret of where he sees the squad's weakness given he's now signed three 10s. What must Weir be thinking?

Re: Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
Captain of English Schools rugby league seems a pretty reasonable pedigree.
Still got two more years in the U20s so should not be expecting to much to soon. Hopefully one for the future!
Edinburgh not wasting any time sending for some reinforcements as well. They tweeted a picture of Gilchrist and Toolis enjoying the sunshine down in SA today. That must have been a bit of a shock (but a good one) after the Baltic conditions in Edinburgh on Saturday.
Cockers clearly does not want to leave anything to chance for the Kings game, definitely wants to get at least one win from this trip.

Well the SRU won't be signing Danny Brough from league anytime soon but I wonder if any others may move to union through the new SQ system, I've always rated Matty Russell.

I'm not a fan of bringing players over from league, because the success rate is not high. This lad has been out of rugby union for 5 years, and we expect him to become a rugby union standoff? Big ask IMO

He is young enough to make the switch back. I guess the big difference is the kicking and controlling the game from 10. It does seem like there are no 10's coming through that inspire confidence at Edinburgh.
Tovey must be off. Weir will have to get his kicking together or else he will be playing 7s/championship rugby next season.

The boy's just left school FFS - it's not like he's experienced at adult level in rugby league either!
If he's a good athlete and got a good skill set he can learn how to run a game of union - we're not going to see him in an Edinburgh shirt for a few years I'm sure. He may not even make the under 20s this season!

Highly unlikely I would have thought if he is just making the switch now. Fair play to him though to make that kind of commitment at 18, moving a long way from home when he was already quite established in the league system. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out. If it goes well, then maybe more will join him.

Glasgow extended highlights. The game didn't really resemble rugby as we know it! Incredibly open and scrappy.
Feck me the ospreys were terrible though - some rank amateur play and defence from.them.

He shouldn't worry though. Midget acts at circuses are apparently on their way back in.
And Steve Tandy said that Weir's new book 'How To Throw The Perfect Intercept Pass' was "absolutely outstanding".
