I have mixed up my summer teams and sometimes played all people who will be available in the Wc. went for a roughly 50/50 split this week with slightly more players who are available during WC.
Always good for the lesser players to play with the big guns!

Keegan daniel is a great dynamic versatile player. Watched him play u20 s and he was a star.
Can play all across back row. A little too small but a great runner, lineout and a really good all round player. Better at 6 than 8 for me.
I was keen to go for him but went for AJ another versatile player and a bit more of a beast

Think you might be referring to me there Pete! Wouldnt say all players are going to be away for 2-3 months - believe pool games last a month, so am assuming Wales, Argentina and a few others will be back home quite soon after that and not to mention the potential for key players to pick up injuries in real life
I find using the Summer tournament as a good way to test out new combinations for the whole season, seeing what people think of Mason and Lualala, trying Tuilagi on the wing if he doesnt make the squad - Halfpenny currently injured so making up a back three with him there.
Guys would be good to get some opinions on whether its better to start with a Sheridan, Hartley, Hayman front row, so I have a strong setpiece and then bring on Domingo, Webber and Stevens to speed up proceedings in the second half? Or any other combinations?
Other question is do you think that Simpson and Tuilagi will go to the WC or be left at home? I think Simpson is going to miss the boat as England will use Foden as 3rd choice no9.
Tuilagi will depend on whether they take Flutey, which I think is a real possibility because he can cover 10 and 12 - think Hodgson will miss out.

Re: Homepage - Page 2
Anyone seen Martin Corry's England squad on Planet Rugby? Reckons Shaw is too old now to go to the WC and they will only be taking 3 locks (Palmer, Lawes and Deacon) with Easter and Croft being able to play there. Also has Waldrom there too as an impact player from the bench.
would imagine that old players from the England set up do get a bit of inside knowledge in these things, so will be interesting to see what happens there!

Domingo is much better than Sheridan imo, think Sheri lives a little off a couple of top performances. Best English LH still though but not WC.
I think Simpson will go, 50/50 on Tuilagi.
Think Daniel is a little light weight Driver, would need some big options along side him to give balance.

Foden won't be used as a 9. Not good enough. He's an option that's nice to have in case of injury but should never be considered as the third 9.
I think Shaw will go to the World Cup. If Johnson thought he was to old he wouldn't have been involved in the EPS. Croft and Easter would be severely found out at lock

Wasn't particularly talking about you Chris, there's a few teams with a fair amount of world cup bound players in, just surprised me a little.
In answer to you front row question, in terms of winning set piece ball, Sheridan is not in the same class as Domingo.

Re: Homepage - Page 2
With regards to selecting WC players for the Summer Tournament, I said the following on Press Releases:
"Our pre-season games are going very well so far, with us having beaten Sale, Saracens and Wasps twice. We are aiming to give the new guys as much time to blend with the team as possible, and looking to trial possible combo's for the World Cup period. I am also trying to make sure everyone gets game time - so it can be quite a juggling act. With the team I have named for this week's game against London Irish, only 3 of our 53 man squad have yet to get any game time."
Likelihood is as we get closer to the start of the season, I will be selecting the team I expect to start the season. Once squads are announced it will be easier to know where we all stand.

Luke that sounds like a good way of doing it - I think I know what players I have during the WC, or who will come home during the group games as some players could be available in less than a month!
Guys was going to suggest a rule for during the WC - if a player gets injured and comes home I think we shouldnt be allowed to pick them at all until that team is out of the WC. What does everyone think?

Mat I read earlier in the week, possibly Planet Rugby, that SA were choosing to put 21 players in a special fitness programme specifically for the WC and that they were using the first two games of Tri Nations to give form players a chance

I've read a SA article and it calls it the "second stringers" Matt. I think we'll see a very different squad come WC time. Seem to resting the first team.

Looks like they have a core of experience and needing players a bit of game time. Makes total sense really, try some of your younger guys out and see what they're made of.

JDP has had injury problems Pooly. Think he is probably being left out to rest up a bit, but also for PDivvy to have a look at the alternatives as TH has been a bit of an issue for the Saffas in recent times.

On a phone in Canada just read sa article and aussie clown oneill complaining about them. He was the person who bleated about scrums just being a restart and is the reason we trialled the awful ELV's.
Dreadful man but how bad is PDV as a coach. Even with 21 missing they have better players in centres wing fb and 2nd row except roussouw

Re: Homepage - Page 2
Its amazing how good the SA's still are with PDV as coach, always been amazed at how he screws things up and never gets sacked despite all of his outrageous comments when SA lose a game.
I can't see passed NZ winning, only thing that will stop them is the expectation of the country on them and if pressure gets too much. I'm pretty certain that England have had a bit of luck with the draw and can get to the final if they top the group (which they should) and then have to beat France and the Aussies, whereas the other side should feature NZ, SA and Ireland. England can definitely beat Aussies and France, as we have the beating of them in our pack.

SA have unbelievable depth of talent to call upon.
Did anyone see that Johann Sadie has signed for the Bulls for next season.
Going to be interesting to see what the final 30 is for South Africa.

They have a lot of talent coming through Mat. I suspect hat post world cup we will see a re build of the side and people like De Jongh, Lambie, Cooenie and others will become first choice players.

Lol....I feel your pain Pete. Not missing much, very scrappy affair. Iaone playing well and good try. Cooper not really in it and not giving Genia much support, can see why Genia has to kick so much.
Crusaders scrum extremely dominant, Franks battering Daley. McCaw is really rusty, lacks gametime.
Crusaders controlling but Reds could still sneak a breakaway.
