Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
Is there anything that can be done about subs? Why on earth was Higuain taken off
I'm considering releasing Ribery for that
I'll sleep on it and summon him to my office first thing

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
How I laughed when scarface ballooned that.
Nando mentioned that possibly I could switch to manual in the game, make a sub and then switch back so I'm going to test it out later. If it's the case I can then for next week's games we can do that.
Alternatively have a sub bench full of players in positions you don't mind swapping especially as in game injuries and cards can't happen.

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
I think we keep the subs as is. It promotes building a squad.
Higuian being substituted on 58 minutes for Dolberg is as good an example of that as you could get

I get the squad building, but surely if we're trying to make it realistic there's no way Higgy would have been subbed off - there's some players that aren't ever subbed unless the game is out of sight!

Are subs made at random times or is it if they reach a certain stamina level or something?

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
That might be a fair point. The two subs I can remember from my test game were Iniesta and Reus, both of who have a below average stamina rating.
Also might be the reason for not just going for the older, cheaper players

Seems to be the striker who has been subbed off in the test games and the real one for me

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
Then it might also be based on other things like their rating at the time? I'm guessing for a striker a highish rating is based on if they score in the game or had shots?
If he had neither then FIFA could say he is having a bad game and take him off? Realistic in a way but I can see it's not ideal.
However I think it should stay as it is but, if my theory is sound, at least we learn from it and have a suitable back up for situations like this.

I'm fine with sticking to it as it is, too early to be making changes based on one real game

I think we need to stick to the AI doing the work for us at least for season 2, on the flip side of potentially bad subs from the computer, it could also benefit.

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
Just watched mine and Tino's game. Well that was pretty drab!!!
What the heck was the formation that FIFA had switched too at the end. Presumably it only switches the formation at the time of substitutions? Is there a way of switching that off

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
Yeah as subs happen it tweaks formations unfortunately. Thought overall tactically the teams matched what people had sent me tbh.
Feedback wise for yourself would be to a bit bolder centrally, don't think you realise how good your team is and if you go for it you could decimate teams.

Thanks and I agree.
TBH this week was a bit of a feeler to see what FIFA did. It has given me an idea of what I can try next week.

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
I don't know if this is correct or not, but in at least the games I have seen the subs have been like for like and not changed the formation.
If the sub it picks doesn't have a like for like position on the pitch as their primary position, then it changes the formation to accomadate it.

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
So my thought of not picking subs that could replace players I don't want to get subbed doesn't work then.
It picks the players to get subbed first and then changes the formation, so actually has a potentially worse outcome

All about strength in depth. The days about having RVP x2 have long gone

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
My strength in depth was okay - my 3 subs on were Sanabria (79), Tousart (78) and Aouar (75). But my formation went from 4-2-3-1 at the start to 3-4-3 at the end.
Also, it brought on Aouar but kep Seri on the bench, who is an 82 rating and plays the same position. So you can't just assume it will pick the best replacement. You could have Ronaldo on the bench and it will choose Bolasie to come on instead

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
Only way round it is for everyone to pick 3 subs. Is that possible?
My formation was and stayed 4231. But as I say it was like for like subs.
Any idea what sub caused that formation change?

I've trialled it with the quick Sub options and it didn't swap to them.

No, because you could still easily do the original formation from the final XI - subs were Sanabria for Jesus, Tousart for Fabinho and Aouar for Matuidi
Subasic
Pereira---Ramos---Chiellini---Alonso
Tousart---Aouar
Callejon----Iniesta----Reus
Sanabria
Pereira---Ramos---Chiellini---Alonso
Tousart---Aouar
Callejon----Iniesta----Reus
Sanabria
Where is ended
Subasic
Ramos---Alonso---Chiellini
Pereira---Tousart---Aouar---Iniesta
Callejon-----------------Reus
Sanabria
Ramos---Alonso---Chiellini
Pereira---Tousart---Aouar---Iniesta
Callejon-----------------Reus
Sanabria

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
Aouar is a CM not a DCM so it could have been that? Just a quick check. Because your formation has no CM (if you did play with 2 DM originally) it tried to accomadate?
The other two subs were like for like.
I actually think that's the reason. That's why I never included Pellegrini in my subs (I don't think anyway) because my formation had no CM.

Good point. That is probably when it switched over. Having said that, it meant Alonso then switched to CB when he is not a CB in his official postions. Silver lining is I got to see how Alonso faired at CB, which I was pondering anyway as he has a decent CB rating (78)

Re: WK 1 Results - Spoilers included
It's a bit silly I know but if I'm right we would know how to get round it. Depending on your formation make sure your subs can slot in like for like for their primary position. So if you have no CM don't have a CM sub or you run the risk of this.
