Winners - (Tricky due to number of players at IPL) Surrey
Failures - Yorkshire. Likely to have a lot of players in the England ODI squad but will not see most of those come Friday.
Player to Watch - Adil Rashid (perhaps only chance Yorkshire members will get)

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Jimbo - thanks for setting up the thread. It's always good to have something immediately there to hang comments on.
Winners - Surrey could go one better than being a losing finalist as has been the case in the last 3 years but I'll go for Dizzy's Sussex.
Can anyone tell me when Roy should be back from the IPL? If he's still in India when Stoneman is playing Tests, Surrey could be a batsman light - they have some quality batters but little as back up.
Failures - I have to go along with Tiger and say Yorks. Different format obviously, but they didn't have much fight about them when at the Oval last week which was surprising and disappointing. They also seem to lack all rounders who can be so handy in the limited overs game.
Player to Watch - sticking with Sussex and experience, I'll say Danny Briggs. [Jimbo - Pope has got talent and is well suited to the white ball game but, if he bats at 6, he might have to sacrifice his wicket too often to star in this year's competition - hope I'm wrong.]

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
My thinking with Pope, Guildford, is that his CC form could earn him a role higher up in the order in the shorter formats. I might be wrong but that's my thinking!
Good call with Briggs, a very good one day bowler, was a big fan of him at Hampshire.

Hi Jimbo - you could be right about Pope batting higher up. Atm we're pretty uncertain about the order Surrey will go with.

Winners? Notts - just an incredibly strong one day outfit, especially when Hales is back from IPL
Failures? Surrey - think this will be the year their lack of lower order oomph comes back to haunt them, plus no Sanga will hit them hardest in this format imo
Player to watch? Sam Hain

He failed the other day, but watch our for Ed Pollock at Warwickshire. He was impressive in the T20 last year.

JD - having now parked my bad and grouchy temper from Surrey's dreadful display yesterday, it's only fair to say that Somerset produced an impressive performance.
Anything the pitch offered, your seamers exploited well and fully. Overton and Trego were especially impressive. I also liked Abell's captaincy, particularly how he stuck to 4 bowlers when the kill was on and gave Pirate Pete his 10 on the reel. Your bowlers had good support in the field as well, making it tricky to get the ball out of the circle. Super catch from Waller running in and diving to get Jimbo's tip Pope. The game was already over by the time you batted but Myburgh made short work of it. For a small guy, he's a powerful hitter.

Good to see Brad Taylor get a game for us today. 180 runs in the second xi this week. Just completed his 10 overs for a respectable 44 runs. Also Crane's first game back since injury.

Jimbo's Hants squeak home by 2 wickets against Sussex. McManus, Berg and Crane all making vital runs to turn the tide. It does seem though that Sussex's skipper Brown goofed in sharing 11 overs between Rawlins and Wells who working as a combo were the 5th bowler and the weak link.

Thanks for the report Guildford. I don't have too many hopes for Somerset in the short stuff this year, batting is a bit fragile and my thoughts were the seamers are better 4 day bowlers - certainly Overton anyway. But good to see they started well anyway!
Abell must have something about him to be thust into the leadership role as he has at a young age (only 24), and it seems to be paying off this year!

A very strange game at the Ageas Bowl today. 4 runs needed from 10 balls and we fail to win.

Opposite at Derby last night where on the fall of Kohler-Cadmore we needed 24 from 11 balls with just two wickets left. Two singles from Plunkett and 24 from 8 balls by Fisher saw us home with a ball to spare.

Hell of a chase from the mighty Pears the other day.
Callum Ferguson with 192, Worcestershire's highest ever list A score, as they chased 376 with 2 and a half overs to spare. Not a bad debut for the Aussie, giving himself a lot to live up to!!

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Willey and Lyth both make hundreds as Yorkshire look to set a massive score.
Took Willey a while to get going - after losing Kohler-Cadmore for a duck, Lyth reached his 50 of 52 balls from a total of 57-1. At that time Willey had 4 from 19 balls. Then he went crazy moving to 50 of 49 balls and his ton off 79 balls. During this time Lyth settled int the role of support and had reached 89.
EDIT - damned "commentators curse" Willey falls for 131 just as I finish writing the above.

LT, closer game than expected as Lancashire just fall short by 16 runs.
4 wickets and a 100 for Willey, not bad at all

Hampshire and Kent have qualified. Hampshire go through to semis if they win or if Kent lose.
Somerset, Surrey and Gloucester can get an away 1/4 final if they win and Essex lose. A win for Essex over Kent guarantees they will meet again in the 1/4 final with NRR deciding who hosts.
Assuming I read the table correctly.

Today's matches:
Leicester v Durham
Notts v Derby
Warks v Worcs
York v Nhants
The winner at Edgbaston will top the group, loser at risk of being knocked out.
Yorkshire win will see them second.
Notts win guarantees them a 1/4 final, home or away dependent on York's result.
Win for Derby Gives them a chance, dependent on NRR with loser in Birmingham.

So Hampshire top the group and have a home semi final.
Essex leapfrog Kent to get a home Quarter final and will play 3rd places in the North Group.
Kent will be away to runners up in the North group.

I really did not foresee Notts improving their run rate by as much as they did. Yorkshire not only need to win, but need to do it inside of 40 overs assuming my mental arithmetic is correct.LondonTiger wrote:Today's matches:

So our home semi final is on a Monday at 2pm, most people at work, kids at school etc... Not only that England play in the world cup at 7.

Cheers Corp. Has been a good competition for us this year, have managed to bring in quite a few youngsters into the team and they've all contributed.

Notts v Kent - Thursday 13th 11.00
Not sure if England made Broad available fo rthis, though they did release Jake Ball from the ODI squad. All largely irrelevant atm as Kent have reduced Nots to 23-4 with 3 wickets for Harry Podmore
Essex vs Yorkshire
Hard to see beyond a home win. Essex will be missing skipper ten Doeschate having been suspended following his Level 1 breach of the disciplinary code recently, but Yorkshire have 5 players unavailable with England while Pujara is back in India playing against Afghanistan.

Wisden - surprised that the mighty Essex got turned over by Yorks stiffs. Even more surprised that Porter who bowled his 10 overs on the reel from the start in a previous match only sent down 9 today - what was that about?

Well, it was a good recovery from 45-4, yet still shocked that a powerful Essex batting lineup failed to knock off what was still a fairly modest target.

Ten Doeschete was a big miss for Essex IMO as i always think he leads the side well.
Kent look an impressive outfit. Henry has been a great signing and Denly is in the form of his life.
I have no idea about the England fixtures, Tiger, but I'm assuming Root, Bairstow, Willey, Rashid will be missing for Yorkshire again?
Semi finals then...
Hampshire vs Yorkshire
Worcestershire vs Kent
Predictions?

My prediction is for home wins.
Yorkshire will be without the England players (including Plunkett as well) or an overseas player. However we have won all the games away from home.

An incredible recovery from Worcs. D’Oliveira and then an exceptional 100 from Ben Cox (including 26 off the final over) + a 28 ball 50 from Ed Barnard, who according to Rob Key who is someone who could only hang around, got them to 306 after being 48-4 off 14.

Fantastic recovery from Worcester. With two early wickets lost for Kent, the visitors need another big innings from Kuhn.

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Kuhn hits a six and makes it looks like he’s guiding them to a win, but a next ball knuckle-ball has flipped it all on its head, and Kent now have two lower order lads needing 4 runs from the last 3 balls. A tie not enough for them to win due to wickets.

Kuhn seems to have found his level at county cricket. When he ventures up to international level he was dreadful. But in this 50 overs competition he's been unstoppable

I know that technically he is not their overseas player, but Kuhn has done everything you could want from your overseas player. Centuries in each knockout game so far getting Kent to a first Lords final in a decade.

Fabulous knock from Kuhn. Mitchell dropping him off his own bowling turned out to be a huge moment. Worcs missing three of their regular bowlers in Leach, Tongue and Moeen just caught up with them in the end.
