Stunning last wicket partnership of 65 in 8 overs by Somerset to steal the win.

I woudl add Roelof van der Merwe all round display in the field: 3-51 (bowling at the death), 3 catches and a run out

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Hampshire fail to defend 310. Some strange decisions made throughout that game. Benkenstein has a lot to answer for. We seem to be getting worse.
Jamie Harrison takes 4-44 with 2 maidens to see Durham beat Leicestershire.
Kent beat Surrey despite being 226-8 at one stage.
Derbyshire impressively beat Worcestershire, with Rutherford getting 104 from 76 balls including 7 sixes!

I've liked Tredwell for some time. A canny and reliable cricketer. He certainly had a good day. As well as his bowling, sensible batting from him at the death to put on 28 with Blake for the 9th wicket and win the game. He only scored 7, all in singles, in his 10 ball innings but provided necessary and valuable support to starman Blake. Tredders sacrificed himself in the final over to a run out in order to get Blake back on strike.

If Kleinveldt bats through Northants might actually win this...

Poor captaincy by Luke Wright here. Every fielder on the boundary allowing singles.

George Rhodes playing for Worcestershire today against Yorkshire. I played against him a few times, maybe my first ever sporting claim to fame.
Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Mat - a tidy enough start by your old opponent George Rhodes.
Yorks will need to up the scoring rate soon and so they'll probably try to get after him. Could lead to runs, wickets or both?!

Shame I'm at work with the game being on TV, would be nice to see him playing. Doing ok judging by the scorecard, but some decent hitters in that line-up, like you say Guildford could go any of those ways, good test for him though in his first game!
Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Hi again Mat - I only saw his first 4 overs but he was neat and tidy enough then claiming a definite lbw against Lees. Seemed he continued in the same vein, finishing with the admirable figures of 10-1-34-2. He'll be happy enough if he gets that return every time. Credit to your skipper Mitchell as well for showing his trust in Rhodes and giving him all 10 on the reel. I often feel captains try and mix the bowling up too much - whilst it may stop the batsmen getting used to what they're facing, it can also lead to the bowler losing rhythm when he comes back.

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
A good win for a young Hampshire team today. A bit fortunate with the weather but we're due some luck. Liam Dawson in top form at the moment, had another good game
10 overs 1-32, 3 catches and a 68* off 40 balls.
A very impressive win by Worcestershire against a Yorkshire team including Lyth, Balance, Bresnan, Rashid, Willey and Plunkett!
Leach the star, but a word on youngster Rhodes who bowled very well. Shantry also, exceptional figures.

After the last 20/20 game between Yorks v Worcs when Bresnan and Plunkett went after the bowling I was pleased to see Leach 63 from 35 balls give them some of their own medicine. Bresnan's 2nd and last over .64444.

Yorkshire's upper order batting is so out of form, in all formats, I would suggest that right now it may be the worst of all 18 counties. Biggest test of his coaching career so far for Dizzy.

If the Yorks batting line up is more out of form than Surrey's then it's in a bad way indeed!

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Fall of the 3rd wicket:
RL v Worcs, 54-3
T20 v Lancs 69-3 (29-2 when Root Bairstow came together)
t20 v Worcs, 74-3
CC v Lancs, 14-3 (74/5) & 70/3 (89/6)
T20 v Leic, 20/3
CC v Soms, 172/3 (only decent start to a game) & 49/3
CC v Surrey, 45/3
CC v Notts, 24/3 & 173/3 (good start to second innings run chase)
CC v Warks, 56/3
CC v Hants, 41/3 & 35/3 (45/4)
F v MCC, 64/3 (84/5) & 108/3
While the bowlers have saved us with the bat (and ball) in CC matches, those oppotunities rarely arise in Limited overs stuff. To make things worse the batsmen also look timid, against Worcester the top 3 faced at least 21 balls each and had strikerates of 43, 40 & 67.

In the end though it was not enough - though Yorkshire were almost bowled out. Excellent bowling from Plunkett probably left Northants 20 short of what they would have wanted on a small ground with fast outfield and true wicket(less siad about the other bowlers the better really). Lyth's innings of 125 from 78 balls set up what should have been a straightforward run chase, even though his dismissal led to a flurry of wickets. Ballance and Bresnan rebuilt things but another small scare when Plunkett's dismissal immediately followed Ballance. However there was just enough batting in hand to ease home with 15 balls to spare.
Will need to be better today at Old Trafford.

Oh and it was a very good maiden ListA ton - was interesting to see that he was keeping wicket as well. Has stopped doing it in CC I thought.

Lyth certainly in cracking form at the moment - good to see him come back like that. When players have been selected for England and come up a bit short it can really affect their confidence for quite a while.

Biggest ever ListA win for Yorkshire. Feel sorry for Ashley Giles and Glenn Chapple. Little coaches can do when the batsmen seem tongive up.

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Storng words from Giles:
"It was poor cricket from start to finish - with bat, ball, in the field and from a coaching perspective. If you lose like that, we all have to be accountable for it.
"There are no excuses. We played bad cricket. They got too many runs. Lyth played well, but we didn't bowl enough balls in the right place.
"Not to get anywhere near and in the manner we got out, you have to show more application and play better shots. From start to finish, it was not good enough."

Worcs in big trouble against Warks. From the start, 10 on the reel from Rikki Clarke - brilliant return of 10-3-26-5. No comment necessary, eh MfC?

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
Huge win for the Yorkies. Been a strange season in limited overs cricket. Took until the 7th match before we recorded a win, but only lost two since that point (in 12 games). Suddenly the batting has caught fire - two totals in excess of 215 in T0 and 376 yesterday in the 50 over game. Lets hope the tentative batting in the CC will have been banished when that restarts next week.

Always helps when you have players like Willey, Plunkett, Rashid, Bresnan, Head... - you shouldn't lose too many games when they are playing!

Makings of a really good side there once you can get them together. Yorkshire have really underperformed in white ball cricket the last few years

Re: Royal London One Day Cup
True on both counts. Would be interesting what the team would be if we make knockout stages and supposedly England release guys.
for this comp could be looking at:
Lyth, Lees, Root, Head, Bairstow, Leaning (or Ballance), Rashid, Bresnan, Plunkett, Willey, Rafiq (or Patterson).
In T20 Willey would open and skipper Lees may miss out..
Potentially good teams - but as you say we have underperformed markedly in limited overs.

Agree Jimbo. In fact when Surrey recently beat a depleted Hants side in the cc (sorry to bring that up again ) I thought that the biggest minus for Hants in that match was the lack of Les Dawson. He's vital for strength of both their batting and bowling.
