Tommy Robinson jailed
Mr Robinson was recently jailed for reporting and filming on a criminal case off limits to the press.
They got him on a technicality and he has received 13 months which is a little harsh imo. Already marches and protests have sprung up outside downing street and Mr Robinson has become somewhat of a martyr and national hero to his supporters.
Thoughts please...

Re: Tommy Robinson jailed
His actions were stupid, as per usual. He did exactly the same thing which caused him to get a suspended sentence last year. Lots of legally illiterate people getting angry about it.
By the way, contempt of court is not a technicality. The trial - the one that Robinson was 'reporting' on - could have collapsed, leading to serious ramifications.

Re: Tommy Robinson jailed
He broke the law so he must be punished but it's a divisive situation in this country which I would hate to turn out like race obsessed America.
His supporters however have gone way over the top and freetommyrobinson hashtags springing up everywhere to them it's an attack on free speech. This has embolden his supporters

Re: Tommy Robinson jailed
Duty pretty much nailed it and the fact that he first asked for a solicitor pointing out he was on a suspended sentence sealed it. He also pleaded guilty to get a lighter sentence, so there's not much there to argue with. I understand the ramifications possible and the reporting postponement but perhaps they should have allowed it to be reported. That said it's one of those things where the situation has no right answer and I could understand why they would have gone with the reporting restrictions as they were on firm legal backing with the decision.

Lock Tommy Robinson up and throw away the key for me..
My worry is along with the laughable Skripal case it is the second time in a couple of weeks a D notice has been used...
Along with Photo ID and an upcoming attempt to restrict Social media..
Britain is becoming more Russian by the day.

Reporting restrictions have a time limit. The case will be reported when it is done. The Judge's words in the original suspended sentence are great though. Basically said that there was a concern for his safety had he been sent to jail, but that if he did exactly what he got done for again a prison sentence was unavoidable.
As far as I am aware his tarrif includes both the suspended sentence and the new offense. Given that he's done time before I believe on a range of convictions (fraud, assault? there is a list out there) you could argue he has still got lucky.
He has also got a hell of a lot of publicity out of this and is now apparently a big hits with right wing elements across the other side of the Atlantic. The story of the free tommy petition is also scary if a bit odd, as a large proportion of the 'signatures' apparently come from bots, and many of the remainder originate overseas.

Re: Tommy Robinson jailed
Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is no different to the likes of Anjem Choudary and Abu Hamza.
He uses lies and manipulates statistics to drive forward his own agenda of division and hate. He fuels his own mission by manipulating ignorance and fear. He points to Muslims like Choudary and says they are all like him, while Choudary points to people from the West and says we're all like Robinson. Not to mention any of his previous law breaking escapades.
He's a racist scum b*stard who deserves all the jail time he gets.
Frak him. And if you buy into his cowpat then Frak you too.

What is laughable about the Skirpal's?
1. That if they were exposed to Novichok they would survive
2. That Putin would gain anything out of killing this guy.
3. That assassins would pour agent on a door handle in the pouring rain..
4. That it takes several hours for nerve agent to work.
5. That any self respecting assassin would risk them surviving.
6. No CCTV...No suspects.
7. D notice slapped on it.

1. That if they were exposed to Novichok they would survive
They almost didn't. There is considerable coverage of how close things were. Lots of things did work in their favour - i.e. exposure through skin is nothing like as lethal through breathing the stuff in. That plus the proximity of Porton Down, and that the NHS can still be good when the proverbial hits the fan
There was a great question about why more people were not affected after the policeman fell in. The comment from the chemical weapons expert was one word. 'gloves'.
2. That Putin would gain anything out of killing this guy.
Hasn't stopped him before. (Litvinenko) It is also a statement of intent. 'lets encourage the others'
3. That assassins would pour agent on a door handle in the pouring rain..
Assassins are not always competent. (Even the Israelis have messed up on occasion) It very nearly worked... Who knows maybe there is a porch and the handle was out of the rain.
4. That it takes several hours for nerve agent to work.
Exposure through skin contact means it still takes time - and as you noted above there are reasons why the dose may have been limited.
5. That any self respecting assassin would risk them surviving.
That any self respecting assassin would hang around to check.
6. No CCTV...No suspects.
No CCTV - why should there be? There was a comment about messages picked up. It is entirely possible that there are suspects but that they are long gone.
7. D notice slapped on it.
yep. Why not it is a sensitive issue and more and more is slowly coming out
Enough ??
Not enough. Even though our government is completely hopeless it doesn't mean they are wrong here either, and they certainly managed to persuade our allies that this is what happened. Russian poisoning is still the most rational reason for what happened.
What has anyone else to gain out of this?

Two conspiracy theorists die and go to heaven. They arrive at the Pearly Gates where they meet God himself.
"Before you enter Heaven, I'll grant you each one wish" God says.
The first man blurts out "Tell me who shot JFK!". The second man jumps in front of him and shouts "Tell me who was really behind 9/11!"
God sighs and says "JFK was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald and 9/11 was plotted and carried out by Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda"
The two conspiracy theorists look at each other blankly, taking in what they had just heard.
One leans over and whispers into the other's ear "This obviously goes much higher than we thought!"

No, a 'D notice' is for issues of national security. The reporting restriction on Tommy Robinson's case was implemented by a standard court order, which happens regularly in trials up and down the land.

Not true. Are you talking about the most recently alleged? Get it right. Give them some time - you do want a proper analysis by the relevant experts don't you? Ah I don't know about that, navy.
Latest poll suggests:
33% of Truss can't wait more than a couple of minutes.
48% of him is quite patient.
And only 19% of him sits on the fence.

Interest.... that's what it has to do with it. The choice of target for interest.
Were there massive protests against the lads that carried out the nasty campaign of abuse by the Same people who then protested Robinson?
Or maybe that bunch of nice men are victims of a society that doesn't understand them....

After (again) being found guilty of contempt of court, SYL is due to be sentenced on the 11th with a maximum penalty of two years in jail.
Yaxley-Lennon has been on Infowars, claiming he is two days away from being “sentenced to death” and is pleading to Trump and the Republican party to grant him and his family political asylum.
I think the irony might kill him before anyone in jail gets a chance to.
