Sweden didn't deserve anything from this match. Their spoiling tactics where pathetic

I suppose a desperate German side is enough to get that win.

Another late goal! Penalties and late goals have characterised this World Cup so far.

Re: Group F Discussion
The win is ultimately all that matters but Germany have serious issues to address before they come up against a higher standard of team. Not sure how feasible that is in a week or so.

Sweden's lack of attack is just what the Germans wanted/needed, damn it Sweden! Why did you tone things down??

Re: Group F Discussion
Ultimately they had to, Germany went all in and Sweden needed everybody to repel them. Just needed 1 break to turn into something though.

Re: Group F Discussion
Germany need to get rid of the deadwood. Ozil and khedira already jettisoned now time to ditch the hapless Boateng. They keep talking about Sule and Goretzka as the future well no time like the present

Did anyone REALLY think the Germans wouldn't score in the last minute? They've been doing it at WCs for 50 years...

I totally expected it to happen.
Was hoping for once they'd 'disappoint' me

Test for England begins with the knockout phase, I'll keep my feet firmly on the ground.
Not expecting much.

Koreans been the better team. Khedira’s legs have gone, but Low is oblivious to it.

Re: Group F Discussion
I suppose you can't bet against history. Mexico in the past six world cups have qualified, have qualified out of the group stage, and then were beaten in the first of the knockout rounds.
As it stands Mexico are finishing second, and predicted to now meet Brazil in the Round of 16 knockout stage.

Re: Group F Discussion
Clearly Germany have to score and win to have a chance of getting out of the group stage. If they do they will be certain to qualify ahead of Mexico on goal difference. Currently Mexico have a goal difference of -1 while Germany have a goal difference of 0.
Currently
Mexico 0 Sweden 3
S Korea 0 Germany 0
Current table
Sweden 6 pts GD +3
Mexico 6 pts GD -1
Germany 4 pts GD 0
S Korea 1 pt GD -2

Mexico 0 Sweden 3
S Korea 0 Germany 0

Germany 4 pts GD 0

Re: Group F Discussion
Nothing guaranteed but looking like
Sweden v Switzerland v the winner of group h and the runner up of group g to reach a semi final.
Might not be an easier route to a World Cup final

Re: Group F Discussion
Late Goal to South Korea! Germany definitely out. They can't score two goals in injury time. So Germany is the first major shock of the tournament. But their play has been ponderous - their legs have gone, they need refreshing.

Re: Group F Discussion
Low has gone old and stale. Ozil is a liability for a mediocre Arsenal side, yet he's still somehow starting for the world champions. Khedira seemed there on pity, whys gundogan deemed not worthy of starting? Low only picks his favourites yet he's a clown now

I'm sure Ozil's happy being mediocre and stealing £150,000 a week from Arsenal...

Re: Group F Discussion
Ozil's new deal is £300,000 / week. Wenger said they had to stump up with that in order to prevent him leaving on a free. Arsenal broke their wage policy.Nathaniel Jacobs wrote:I'm sure Ozil's happy being mediocre and stealing £150,000 a week from Arsenal...

Elsewhere Ozil's new three year deal is reported as being worth £350,000 / week. So Ozil is getting paid somewhere in the region of £300,000 to £350,000 week.

Germany paying the price for sticking with the old guard. Why Ozil was there and not Sane will forever baffle me, but stinks of Low being too loyal.

Can't quite believe it, couldn't quite believe what I was seeing from the Germans!
Just incredible.

Re: Group F Discussion
Outside of that free kick, Kroos was awful. Boateng did his best David Luiz of 4 years ago impression. Midfield offered no cover while the FBs tried to play as wingers. Brandt did more in about 10 minutes of play in the first 2 games than every other forward.
Most of the next gen are primed already for Germany, so shuffling some towards the exit door shouldn't hurt too much.

Should be a good omen for England as the last time they lasted longer than Germany on a World Cup they actually won it

Re: Group F Discussion
The Germans showed no energy, no passion, nothing - and yet I still expected them to score a late goal and go through!
Surely Sane should have been in the squad. Couldn't have done much worse than those playing.
Germany have caused so much heartache to England (I've not forgotten Leon in 1970) over the years that the outbreak of joy throughout the land at their departure is understandable.
So the "curse of the holders" continues. The last three teams to win the WC have failed to make it to the knock-out stage in the next finals.
