Re: FIFA Challenge League Homepage I
Just to clarify, I don't feel too strongly on exactly what the system is for different finishing positions. I do feel strongly that we have some kind of system in place.

And I agree with this. The sooner the better as really it should have been set-up ahead of time.
I'll have a go at what I can come up with

Re: FIFA Challenge League Homepage I
Right, I have something that might work.
1) we rank the teams 1-16 based on either TM value or FIFA ranking at the start - probably the former, given this is what is determining your ability to improve. This is your expected finishing position
2) we calculate average player value in the league at the end of the season using Bam's file.
And if you finish in your expected position, you get 2.5x the average player value (i.e. enough to buy 2.5 players). if you finish lower, you get less, going down for each position, if you finish higher you get more, going up for each position.
I will post my example up when I can get it in a nice format, but in it, assuming MK Dons is the top ranked team and Macc is the bottom ranked team - Dons would get 2.5x average value if they won the league, but only 1x if they finish bottom; Macc would get 2.5x if they finish bottom, but 4x if they won.

Re: FIFA Challenge League Homepage I
Trying to explain this as clearly as I can, so here goes....
This is the multiplier table.
The teams are ranked, in the table Team 1 is the topped ranked, Team 2 the second ranked etc.
The multipler they achieve is multiplied by the average player value.
So if average player value was £500k and Team 1 won the league, they would get 2.5x£500k (£1,250k) prize money. If Team 8 won the league, they would get 3.2x£500k (£1,600k).
If the average player value is higher, the prize money is higher.

Could easily make it higher/lower if we think its not enough/too much.
But felt it important that it could adjust to player values as no-one has any idea what kind of value will be typical for our players in 30 weeks time.

I'm happy with the idea. Amounts can be decided nearer the end of the season, but using this principle.

Do you think the range of amounts is about right. Goes from 4x for the worst team winning the league, to 1x for the best team coming last.
Or should that be wider?

I don't think any of the teams are that much worse than the others at this level.

I think the starting FIFA ratings are reasonably close. Highest rating is MK Dons at 65, lowest is Morecambe, Crewe and Macclesfield all rated at 60.
But total TM squad values are wider. Again Dons were highest at £5.4m, whilst Macc were lowest at £1.51m
I think given that everyone is going to be changing from their starting squad, the TM value represents the cash they will have to do that, and the speed at which they can do it

If we did everything using FIFA values rather than TM it would have worked much better

That's fair enough, I wasn't aware there was such a disparity between TM values! Incidentally, where would Bury feature on that list?

That makes my 6-1 result look even worse
But seeing we’re taking averages maybe we should average out my first result into a 4-2 loss....

I'm sure you were just doing Marky a favour considering how long he has gone winless and how low his self-esteem must have been because of it.

Re: FIFA Challenge League Homepage I
To be fair the TM value won’t have had that much impact yet I’d only sold maybe one player at that point. Little between fifa ratings just now but will be over the season with more offers coming in I’ll benefit from Tm value
Agree with the above approach but only other thing I could suggest is alter the amount you get per game since it will be over the season the TM difference comes into play

My side wasn't that 62 rated squad though.
I had five new players in the starting XI, and Tactics obviously played a part.

Might ban Olly just for his ‘sincere’ and ‘earnest’ comment about hating the gap between squads whilst he has MK Dons.

Re: FIFA Challenge League Homepage I
Here’s 10 minutes of my life I won’t get back.
Band Aid ‘18
[Jamie Carragher]
It's transfers time
There's no need to be afraid
At transfers time
We let in great and we banish sh*te
[Gary Neville]
And with your wins of plenty
We can spread some signings too
Throw your arms around Cambridge
At transfers time
[Chris Sutton]
But say a prayer
Pray for the other teams
At transfers time it's hard
[Alex Scott]
But when you're winning games
[Alan Shearer]
There's a squad outside your window
[Roy Keane]
And it's a squad of dread and fear
[Danny Murphy]
Where the only goals flowing are
[Alan Smith]
The bitter sting of theirs, Martin
[Keys and Gray]
And the kick off whistle rings there
It’s a whistle full of doom
[Graeme Souness]
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you
[Le Tiss, Merson, Charlie Nicholas, Phil Thompson]
And there won't be goals for Cambridge this transfers time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
Oh, where no good ever sign, no youth or players grow
[Kamara, Stelling, Cottee, Iain Dowie]
Do they know it's transfers time at all?
[Alan Hansen]
Here's to you
[Lawro]
Sign someone for ev'ryone
[Alan Hansen]
Here's to them
[Lawro]
Hours of poor scouting done
[Ian Wright and Kelly Cates]
Do they know it's transfers time at all?
[All the pundits]
Feed their squad
Feed their squad
Feed their squad
Let them know it's transfers time again
Feed their squad
Let them know it's transfers time again
Feed their squad
Let them know it's transfers time again
Feed their squad
Let them know it's transfers time again
Feed their squad
Let them know it's transfers time again

There was no first bite.
Also this week's game was in the wrong stadium. Please replay it until I win.

Answers to me by 1300, answers live from 1400:
1. Name an international team Wayne Rooney has scored against.
2. The Spice Girls are going on tour again, without Posh. Name one of the other four.
3. England are about to win their first ever test match in Galle - name one of their wicket takers in this match.
4. Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a lot of accolades - some call it the best game of all time. What actually is the best computer game of all time?
5. Name a type of fish.
6. Name a German football team not named Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund.
7. Who will be the next Prime Minister of the UK?
8. It plays second fiddle to the Azzrentice, but the Apprentice is now down to its final 10 contestants. Name one of them.

How the holy fack did Crawley not win that game?
Also, would it be possible to put the fixtures/results in a spoiler so that people could read them if they don't have time to watch the games but it also won't give away the result for people who want to watch it without knowing the score already?

I lost count of how many times the woodwork was hit in that game!
Also some top saves from Fruchtl who looks a shrewd purchase

Added the spoiler
I think Marky's shot accuracy was something like 33%, and he scored from 25% of those on target. Compare that to last week where nearly every shot was on target and most of those were goals.

I'm sure he must have hit the woodwork at least 3 times in that game as well.

Also Dolph, the Apprentice is the best TV show there is. Bar none. And you're speaking to the guy who was on The Chase, and is also appearing in a Channel 5 documentary this winter.

100% agree. The Apprentice is the only TV show I'll specifically work my life round so I can watch live. That and Would I Lie To You whenever Bob Mortimer is on

Watching The Apprentice is an ego boost, letting you know that however stupid you think you are, there are always more stupid ones out there!
