Mid-season break. VAR. Amazon Prime.
All change! Don't think Ole will last too long. Wouldn't be surprised if he left over the summer to be honest.

Think Brighton/Bournemouth need a big summer to avoid being deep in a relegation battle.

Graham Potter to Brighton is one hell of a gamble if they go that route. Before a late run of form I dont think there was a bigger underachiever in the Championship outside of Stoke

Really? Swansea are a complete shambles behind the scenes, and certainly have been this season, and that squad was awful. Potter's done a decent job of stabilizing them after losing what decent players they did have last summer, integrating and developing youth to replace them (he wasn't given hardly any money, unlike Stoke) and has built a decent platform for them to build off next season if he does stay put - this is obviously assuming they sort themselves out off the pitch...which doesn't look likely tbf

The squad was easily better than 16th at the start of April. If Brighton have a similar transition period they'll be relegated.

I agree. He’s got to come in and take on a squad that has a very set style. I don’t rate that squad individually, certainly could see someone messing with how Dunk and Duffy play and absolutely ruining their core strength.

United zeroing in on former players for the DoF because why have 1 figure in a key role to inspire nostalgia when you can have 2.

Hell of a way to go out.
Shame injuries limited him really, but cant argue with 4 PL titles.

It makes sense if you consider he would know how to navigate the player power that's cut down a few managers at Chelsea now. And hes prepared to being through some younger players which is important faced with a transfer ban.
Some questions remain, but hes probably uniquely placed given the scenario Chelsea are in

If Sarri gets the Juve job as rumoured, Chelsea won’t stand in his way. If he misses out, then whether they sack him and pay they compensation is a different question as they were so reluctant to do with Conte last year.
Lamps is inexperienced, but the club is at a crossroads with Hazard leaving, a lot of players (Luiz/Cahill/William/Pedro/Giroud/Higuain) either leaving or 30+. Chance to go the direction he wants, which will be interesting at least, after the apathy of this season.

Re: 2019/20 Premier League Thread - The Longest Season
Sarri leaving Chelsea and signing a three year deal with Juve. Probably worked out ideally for all parties, Sarri going on to bigger and better things, Chelsea not stuck with a manager who wanted to coach their players and improve the football.
Candidates would appear to be Allegri (who has just left Juve and seems a Chelsea type), Nuno at Wolves, Gracia at Watford and Failure Frank, as well as Laurent Blanc.
They’ve also sold Hazard for £88m (rising to a max of £130m) and are appealing their transfer ban to the court of arbitration for sport. Not read if that means they’ll be buying players or not.

They as of yet have not asked for the ban to be lifted while they appeal. Mainly because they're being threatened with 3 windows if they appeal just to get a window to buy players

Must have missed all this sensational football Chelsea played this year. Our best results/performances came when he actually abandoned his ideals and adapted. Probably best off just serving the ban to be honest, swallow it till next summer as we have a large enough squad to get by.

This is fantastic news for us promoted clubs, really wasn't many if any of the current clubs you could see having really bad summers...now Newcastle shoot themselves in the gob.

We’ll get two out of the three. Ashley will no doubt have a cheap ‘yes’ man already lined up. We’ll also get a pre-season in. As for the signings, that will be last minute loans from the championship.
Manager aim - 17th. Cup runs - play the reserves.
No doubt there will still be 52,000 mugs turning up in August

Thats the sad part. Cant blame their loyalty to the club, but they're just giving fat Ashley everything he wants. Ill be interested to see how many Season tickets have been renewed and how many are waiting for further news.
Most of my pals have said they are not renewing yet until they see progress.

Money going on Mourinho to be the next Newcastle manager - he's the 3/1 favourite with SkyBet. Can't see it myself, but it would be a lark to see how Mourinho would do at a relegation-threatened club.

Re: 2019/20 Premier League Thread - The Longest Season
I think he'll last longer than that and in my humble opinion, and I'll admit I have no proof, he's just a figurehead. Yes, he may have a say on transfers, but I can't believe it's all down to him who they buy. He's there because he's a better representative of the club than Mourinho was. Mourinho was damaging the brand. His football was dire and he complained too much in public. Also for me, Mike Phelan is just as responsible for picking the side and winning games as Ole is.Good Golly I'm Olly wrote:2019/20 Barclays season thread

We do play like that, and yes we will be in high scoring games! Similar to last year...we’re very good going forward but don’t really do defending.
Defence should be helped by Klose and Zimmermann coming back very soon. There’s a reason Grant Hanley is 4th choice and hadn’t started a league game since last September, as we saw last night!

well good luck olly, applaud any team trying to play that way but could be a real struggle in the prem with a inability to defend

Sad to see such a huge gulf between two PL sides. Liverpool operating at well below full intensity and they swatted Norwich aside with no difficulty.
