It's going to be a long season for Chelsea, taken apart by a Man United team that are short of quality themselves.

I think this season is going to be tough for Chelsea too.Soul Requiem wrote:It's going to be a long season for Chelsea, taken apart by a Man United team that are short of quality themselves.
I'm not just going by todays result, but I often hear or read people comments saying that United are in a "mess". For me, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are not much better than United. They all slumped badly towards the end of last season.

As the pundits said, nothing much has changed over the summer, it’s City & Liverpool......and then the rest.
As for Chelsea, bit of an over-reaction. Looked decent for an hour, but missing Kante, Rudiger, Willian, RLC and Hudson-Odoi, was always going to make Lampard’s task much harder. Going to need patience.

Chelsea were the better side in the first half. Hit the woodwork twice and pressed well. Individual mistakes cost them for the first two goals and they went too pieces a bit after that - lacked leadership out there - and looked there for the taking on the counter.
Kante will help tighten things up hopefully, but it’s going to be a learning curve for the younger players and manager. Not overly disheartened.

So...Chelsea get slapped with a transfer ban, but Man City get a way with a tap on the wrist (£300k fine) for doing pretty much the same thing.
Anyone want to try and explain that?

A short version would be that Chelsea appealed the decision, and took it to the court of arbitration, whereas City accepted their wrongdoing from the start, and hence were given a lenient punishment.

Wasnt Citys thing playing players in a trial game they shouldn't have.

city well known for tapping up young players, its fairly common to her stories of it round here. but when they are English the rules are different than poaching foreign players

to be honest I would imagine it's a pretty murky situation for big clubs all around the world. Liverpool had something similar a couple of years ago

There’s no high ground with it, they’re definitely not the only Manchester club known for it

Top very comfortable win for the nodge yesterday, really should’ve been more than 3 scored, albeit Newcastle were very very poor.
Chelsea at home next week another “free” hit so to speak. Based on their first two games if we play like we did yesterday we could nab something...nevertheless good to get off the mark

It was the definition of 'stonewall'. VAR only seems to come up if someone's had the ball smashed into their arm from six inches away, or if someone's little finger has strayed offside just before a goal is scored.

Couldn’t see United or Chelsea in the top 4 before the start of the season, and sure as hell don’t see them making it now. Just way off.

Weird uses of VAR today. I was an advocate, but I've seen a couple of decisions today that I don't understand.
A blatant pen missed in the West Ham game, whatever the hell that mess of refereeing was in the Palace/Villa game and a bit of a question over that Tielemans challenge on Wilson.

Was at Palace villa yesterday. Kevin Friend was poor all game.
Decision to disallow our goal was wrong.
By no means did we deserve to win the game, but that decision wa hard to take.
I’m not a big fan of VAR and think it will ruin the game.

I know it's very early in the season but it's funny to me to see Man United criticized on forums and told that their top four hopes are already hanging in the balance. Spurs meanwhile, who have an identical win, loss, draw record to United aren't held to the same standard. They seem to escape criticism.

I'd suggest that's because for the past 4/5 years Spurs have been well run, more successful, have a better squad and have a better manager...
And tbf I am seeing plenty of Spurs criticism online. Probably a bit overboard

Spurs have dropped points to City and Arsenal, as well as the Toon.Man United have draws with Wolves, Southampton and a defeat at home to Palace.

Things may be on the up for Spurs but they haven't been more successful than United in the last 4/5 years. United, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup. Spurs nothing.Good Golly I'm Olly wrote:Atila wrote:I know it's very early in the season but it's funny to me to see Man United criticized on forums and told that their top four hopes are already hanging in the balance. cant understand why anyone would say that getting to a final in a cup competition is better than actually winning trophies.

for a club of Uniteds size, theyd obviously rather be in the CL final than winning the EL. that they're in the EL at all is a failure

Just shows how far Utd have fallen that winning the reserves cup and against some European part timers is now seen as success. A real shame

Spurs are definitely a team on the up and United a team on the slide. Better coach, better players, players whose games seem to be improved and their status then follows.
Spurs have looked consistently good in the league for years. By virtue of such, they can’t even win the Europa. I do think they should actually look at trying to win something, but that’s about the only thing United have done, and reputation outside of England is definitely more buoyed by a champions league final than an FA Cup or League Cup win

In a rather bizarre turn of events Inter are claiming that monkey chanting aimed at Lukaku is not racist but a sign of respect. That is a frankly pathetic and rather frightening excuse.

It was the Inter fans wasn't it, rather than Inter themselves?
But still, you're right it is a bizarre justification. They are basically saying that in Italy they are different, and it is because the opposition fans are scared of the player.
Funny how they are only scared of the black players - that's Lukaku, Kean, Matuidi and Muntari

So ahead of our game with Man City, we currently have all 4 of our CBs out, our GK, our RB, and our starting CMs.

Add to that, that you have set your stall out to play attacking football this year....What's your prediction Olly? 7-6 to Nodge?

Genuinely, genuinely fear we might see a record PL score in City's favour. With a consolation from Pukki.
Like our starting back four is likely to be
Sam Byram---Ibrahim Amadou---Jamal Lewis---Phillip Heise
With Kenny McLean and someone else in CM (Vrancic, Trybull, Leitner all out, and Amadou having to play CB means McLean is our only CM).
Never known an injury crisis like it!

I always think of playing City as a freebie week. In all likelihood, they are going to win, good chance they'll score quite a few, and no-one is surprised if you do get stuffed.
Anything that you get from the game, or even if you push them close, it's a bonus!!
