I think the rest of us are wondering if we have to tolerate you for the rest of the world cup.
I disagree with Miaow that's it a yellow card but that's purely on a lack of force, it's not as clear cut as it would have been a few years ago.

Welcome to 606 although I suspect you have already been here and returned after a ban.
If people think that Farrells tackle is illegal then Rugby is dead.

But you are missing the point, Farrell doesn't make contact with the head!

It was close, but if my Auntie had balls she'd be my uncle.

I do not see anything wrong with Farrell's challenge. He stands his ground and the Tongan runs into him. Due to his reputation people will say he has gotten away with something, but you will see clashes like that multiple times in the game.
However I do want to point out that there appears to be a severe lack of consistency on your part.

Opinion. Looks to me like he does.
Another opinion is I believe you are the one at risk of derailing this thread.
Though to be honest the thread is dead as the game is long gone. I will close it at the end of the work day.

If Farrell shoulders him in the face then fine Red, but he didn't did he!

Interesting to note you skipped rule four, TightHEAD.
Don’t be scrumpy when choosing which rules to follow, or there’ll only be one Victor.

I had to check what Rule Four was. It has not been broken as my posting on this subject so far is as a poster. Any moderation will be red inked and very clear.

Re: England vs Tonga match thread
The RWC clearly has a scheduling problem. There's no game on today.
Don't they know that 606 becomes autophagic when there's no rugby meat to sink our teeth in to? When that rumbling hunger doesn't a nice, meaty 80 minutes to chew on, we turn on ourselves and snap and nibble at each other?
Come on World Rugby. First the refs, now this? Sort it out.

I had the same thought this morning, what's the point of working from home during the tournament if there's not a single game on!

Enjoy.
It's actually an interesting watch in its own right. Interesting listening to them speak. Johnson come across a bit weird at times, seems like quite a shy man who no doubt feels comfortable in a rugby environment. Dallaglio is exactly what you'd expect.
Can't help but feel he was wasted/lost to rugby in the way he was handled. I was listening to one of the rugby podcasts - think it was the Rugby Pod this week actually - and Steve Thompson called Brian Smith and one of the other English coaches 'the worst coaches he'd worked under' and that Martin Johnson was basically dunked on and let down in his time as England manager. Hard to disagree, really. 2004-2010ish was a weird time in English rugby, and Johnson helped stir the revival in 10/11 that Lancaster built on and EJ is now maximising.

Jones is very interesting in that respect. On one side you have a big turnover in backroom staff. On the other the team, including the players left behind, have nothing but good words to say about him. Even Cipriani (if you ignore the no chance of getting picked stuff). Maybe he's a lot harder on the backroom staff. Maybe too many were left over from past regimes, plus the problems with the RFU full stop.
The team, so far, seems at ease with itself and there is none of that edge or uncertainty around it that there was last RWC. He's got them in a good place.

It helps we have the best set of players since 03. Fortunately a lot of them are nearer the start of their careers too. We haven't peaked as yet.

The class of 2007 weren't bad either, robbed of a world cup final victory.

That 2007 team were poor for most of the tournament if I recall.
Smashed by the Springboks, scraped through against the rest (samoa, tonga and USA?). it was supposedly only a player coup that turned the performances around so they got to the final. Ironically the best performance was the final where they lost

We were really poor - at the end of the tournament we had a positive points difference of just +18. We scored one try in 240 minutes of knockout rugby. That we only lost by 9 points in the final was amazing as we were second best for most of the game. Anguish over a correctly disallowed try is just window dressing.

PS that was the only World Cup final I have ever been to (or ever expect to go to). As a guest of Philippe Sella no less (well my brother was the guest, I was his plus 1 )

Ha. There were a couple of decent players in that squad but most were past there best. Will be good when we get to do a mash up of 2 world cup winning teams later this year though!

We struggled past USA first up. Didn't get a bonus point. Then got hammered by the Boks.
After that we actually looked halfway competent against Samoa and Tonga in two de facto knock out matches. Bonus point wins in both if I recall. Then obviously we won tight ones against Australia and hosts France.
We were a very limited team but when we got it together we weren't too bad.
According to Haskell and Tindall on House of Rugby Ashton was great in 00-01 because he would just write play after play and bring them to training. He was completely out his depth as first team coach. He spent ages in training camp just running exit plays and when Haskell got into one of the warm up games he asked Worsley where he should be and Joe told him he had no idea.
Re: England vs Tonga match thread
Heard that as well robbo. Pretty amazing.
Can't help but feel other coaches in recent times suffer from some similar failings. Not as glaring, but just fundamental weaknesses that don't go addressed, and they don't realise it's a problem. Looking at Townsend recently, probably Andy Robinson of the recent past. Slighly worried Wayne Pivac might have issues with this as well.
