It's a doubly distracting morning for me as my sister as due to give birth to my nephew #2 any minute. The baby boy's name is still TBC so a good performance today from any player might push their name into the reckoning. Can't wait to meet my new nephew Willem Finn Greig Hoggy when he's born!
So I've become an uncle again this morning - no name yet so still time for a Scotland player to come into the reckoning!

Don't panic. England got there in the 77th minute V Tonga and you will do similar.

What difference does that make? You can't try and tackle someone into touch with your knees. The ball lost control after the Samoan hit him.
That's why players dive before the line - you can't tackle them!

Similar to Eng V Tonga and therefore no need for Scotland to panic. They will get better and can relax a little with the BP win. Take care of Russia with your B team and then a cracking match with the hosts.

Would be good if other people diving in with their knees are penalised, when people actually do score.
Felt for Maitland though. I assume the pitch is artificial, as he didn’t seem to slide very far, considering the rain. Probably lost some skin there.

Also great for Scotland that they nilled Samoa.
Will get more confidence that they didn’t concede.
Think Scotland will beat Japan. Hopefully from an Irish point of view we will get 10 points from last 2 games.

Re: Scotland v Samoa - Monday 30th September 11:15 KO (BST)
To continue the narrative from the Welsh match threads.
How were Scotland allowed to be constantly offside ? They were offside all game ? Didn't the ref want to enforce the offside rule ? How do Scotland always get away with being offside ?
Anyway.
Well done Scotland, to come away with not giving your opponents a single point is good going. The Japan match is now massive, but you should beat them. Samoa were very physical, sometimes illegal, but you more than stood up to them, and kept them out, it was a very efficient performance. If you defend like this against Japan, then you should have no worries.

One game at a time. We need 5 points from Russia without injuries. Then and only then do we worry about Japan.

According to wiki it is grass.
Personally I felt it was a clearcut YC, but it looked to me as though he was starting to lose possession before he was hit. So feel the PT was harsh, but ref had no option as he cannot do anything other than say the player was sliding towards the line before the illegal challenge was made.
I also agree about more penalties for knees to the back during the act of scoring.

Thomson would have been my MOM, just the backrow really they did really really well. Thomson isn’t a Denton carrier but boy is he speedy and abrasive. I think he’s the perfect 8 for Scotland really.

Re: Scotland v Samoa - Monday 30th September 11:15 KO (BST)
Only caught the second half, but that was scraps o clock. Samoa getting away with close to rugby murder. The ref was atrocious, worst I've seen so far, but I did only see the last 40.
Scotland did what they needed to. Ritchie and Bradbury are good players, they'll mitigate what's lost with Watson.
Jonny Gray is such a frustrating player. So underwhelming with ball in hand.
Bit of a weird one. Scotland looked a bit scared of the Samoans. Only Maitland seemed to get up and in to them - saw him giving them stick back. Scottish players suffering from the old white guilt? Too afraid to go out there and just dominate Samoa, including cutting out the cheap shots, dealing with the sledging, and not bottling it, really.
They look a side low on confidence, so the 5 points were the best part, as was keeping Samoa to 0.
There's so much talent in this side. The Japan game could be great if they front up, man up, and make the passes stick.

Didn’t get to see the whole game so can’t comment on the offside LD. if we were offside all day then I’m bloody glad that we’re finally starting to play the refs like the other teams.
