QF3 - Match Thread - Wales v France - 20/10/19 - K/O 8:15 BST
First topic message reminder :
Thought I'd get these made nice and early for a few reasons - but one being that we're already now looking ahead to the QFs with several teams having finished their group stage, so it's all heating up for the proper knockout stuff...barring any more disruption.

Nah, cant say I agree. Yep the red card was fully deserved and silly but the ref totally dropped the ball here. You dont go around mocking players you have carded after the game. Thats equally stupid.

That particular red card was the least controversial card possible...and so the ref joked about it afterwards (so not evidence of prior bias)...so what.
Its the joking about it afterwards that has some up in arms. You can see why though. An official is having a laugh at a moment of madness that arguably denied France a World Cup semi final. You could also argue that "joking" about the elbow makes light of a thuggish bit of play that World Rugby are taking as a serious matter and trying to stamp out the old thuggish ways.
Hopefully those arms aren't too near anyone's head... ;)

I'm not upset by the photo, like I wasn't upset by the whole Folau meme thing. That said, Peyper is a ref and should also abide by a code of conduct. You're potentially breaching it by mocking a player that you had just sent off. Let the fans do it, they're not under any obligation to not do it. Slap on the wrists for Peyper and forget about it. He isn't the worst ref at the world cup btw, he isn't French.

If Alain Rolland had been photographed laughing with French fans and simulating a tip tackle after the semi final in 2011, I doubt Welsh fans would see the funny side.

No and I think we can understand the implications of this photo, but it has no effect on either the game played or the games coming up

I can understand why World Rugby have taken him out of the picture (excuse the pun). He really should have known what their reaction would be.
It was a red card all day long, but that doesn't change how bad this looks.

Agreed, Referees should be held to a high standard of public behaviour, his actions could be construed as bias, doubt any French team would want him as a referee after that photo.

Until you lose and then no doubt those refs will all be motherless
I am rather confuzzled. You seem to be suggesting, over a number of threads, that both England AND New Zealand will lose.
I mean, morally, they both will, of course. Moral victories are only awarded to the Welsh, and sometimes Fji. So in some ways they both already have lost...

Agree, nothing wrong with it, but don't do it during the RWC - and don't capture it on film/camera. Stupid, he must know it's going to be shared and go viral almost instantly, so he's either hanging up the whistle and doesn't care, or has just had a really brainless moment. People would be more accepting if it were 6 months+ after the game at an after dinner function or something. I don't know. I don't see the problem either, really - it wouldn't be like Rolland joking about the Warburton card, this was as clear as day and deliberate foul play. Just the way of the world now, everyone has to have the personality of a 55 year old accountant (... ) when in the public eye.

Re: QF3 - Match Thread - Wales v France - 20/10/19 - K/O 8:15 BST
On the red card: I'd gone upstairs to the toilet a couple of minutes before the incident, and as I was washing my hands I could hear the commentator saying 'there was a red card in 2011, it looks like there'll be another' - and I thought to myself, 'well that'll be Moriarty getting a second yellow, or even a straight red'. So I was rather pleased to find out I was wrong!

If you win dont forget to share the trophy seeing as you didnt play all the games and therefore didnt really contest on a level playing field

What a year for Wales playing France lol. Two games handed to Wales on a silver platter by French idiocy. If only France added structure and discipline to their game they might become a consistent outfit one day. Medards kick out dead with 5 mins to go a prime example.

Yeah, Wales have had their free ticket. Time to stand up for themselves and play rugby.
There’s are reason three winners of this event are sitting there in the top four and won their quarter finals by 20, and Wales didn’t.
Welcome to the big time Wales! Let’s see what you’ve got.

Pie, the point of being able to foe someone is so you don’t have to engage with them. I am sticking to rugby comments and am not being personal towards anyone, where if I was, I have stopped, where you are obviously following me around like a little dog making personal, childish comments.
I get the team you support is struggling to stay above water but I can’t help you with your issues in dealing with that. So take a cue, get off my case and start posting about rugby.
I believe your team will be out this weekend, just my opinion, so you’d best make the most of it, by posting reasonable, rugby related comments.
And Ill do the same.

Taylorman please make reports rather than posts complaining about behaviour. We do read them eventually. It does not help your case when you then have a dig within the public complaint.
Pie there have been a number of personal comments and insults from you in the last 24 hours, contravening rules 1 & 3
