Refreshed side
First topic message reminder :
So a few comments I've lifted from the guardian from Eddie Jones. Pretty much as you'd expect in terms of looking ahead to the next challenge.
“I tell you what happens to teams – they evolve,” Jones said. “Some guys will lose desire, some guys will lose fitness, some guys will get injuries and there’ll be young guys come through. So this team is finished now. There will be a new team made. We’ll make a new team for the Six Nations and that new team for the Six Nations will be the basis of going to the next World Cup.'
Apparently the team at the weekend is the youngest to appear in a WC final so there won't be 15 new guys coming in but clearly a few are coming to the end. Are there particular areas or players jones will be looking at?
For me this bunch stand a decent chance in and around the squad to get more caps soon. Genge, Painter, Willis, Dombrandt, Smith, spencer, Robson and a outside chance of Mullins at full back.
Guys that are all young enough to be around for years to come but all with great potential. Perhaps not as good/proven as some who will step back but hugely talented.

He can play 15 but I think he's more effective on the wing.
We say this about so many players, but he's had such injury problems over the last couple of years you do wonder how long he'll last

I just think he is a superb natural rugby player. A massive threat to any team in attack or defence.

If Dombrandt isn't in the England squad on Monday I will be really disappointed. He is fantastic and offers something very different to Billy.

Plays across the backrow too so could be a great bench option.

Billy Vunipola off injured within minutes. Uncertain if it's a precaution, or recurrence of his arm injury.

Well Billy out is a big one. But its perfect to see how Dombrandt and Simmonds go.
On a side note .... Englands future long term 15 played his first proper game for us today and scored.
I wonder if Eddie has his eyes on him from afar...

In addition to this, we've heard Eddie say that he wants to get Ben Curry into the squad. I could be wrong, but I actually think there will be more changes than we have been anticipating. Either way, I reckon the squad may be named on Thursday (it has been named on the corresponding Thursday for the last two years 17/01/19, 18/01/18)
Called it.
At this point Billy being fit seems like a luxury that we cannot rely on.

Re: Refreshed side
I'd imagine Farrell will keep the armband but we'll need more leadership depth. Ford has worn the armband, while the two Vunipolas, Heinz, and even Underhill have been named vice captains (among current squad players). Itoje and Jamie George seem like obvious contenders but Jones might have to be conscious of the Saracens factor.Mr Bounce wrote:Will there be a captaincy change? Or will Eddie stick with Farrell?

Re: Refreshed side
Cant see the captaincy changing. Farrell is still going to be central to Jones' plan and I cant think of many other players who are that secure in selection, fit and playing in positions that enable them to focus on the wider game and be in the middle of the park to give that leadership. You could argue for one of the senior locks, but they arent guaranteed to still be around for the next world cup.
More than anything I don't see that its a problem that needs fixing. A couple of years ago we did talk a lot about England having leadership issues on the field, but I don't see that as the case now.
Theres enough forced change with new coaches and the injuries, it would be bonkers to make further change for changes sake when you had a winning side.

Billy is out, Slade is out, Watson too. Cokanasiga still not fit. Wilson borderline fit (I think).
Are there any other notable injury absences?

ENGLAND MEN'S SQUAD FOR 2020 GUINNESS SIX NATIONS
Posted 2 Minutes Ago
England men’s head coach Eddie Jones has named his 34-man England squad for the 2020 Guinness Six Nations.England Senior Men
Jones has included 22 players who played at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan last year and eight uncapped players.
Of those uncapped players Tom Dunn, Ben Earl and Ollie Thorley have been involved in previous England squads while Fraser Dingwall, George Furbank, Alex Moon, Will Stuart and Jacob Umaga are called up for the first time.
In addition to the 34 players, Josh Hodge, who plays in the Greene King IPA Championship, and Alex Mitchell have been called up as apprentices and will only train with the squad.
'RAISING STANDARDS'
Jones said: “The Guinness Six Nations for us is all about raising the standards in terms of the way we prepare, tactically and physically how we play the game, and the way we come together off the field.
“But our first task is beating France in France and that is the only game we need to worry about. We will begin our preparations in Portugal, get a bit of sun, some warm conditions and get ourselves physically and mentally right for the game.
"The first three days will be about getting organised. We have got players from 11 clubs so we need to get everyone on the same page quickly, spend a lot of time working on our togetherness and then by Tuesday next week we are in Test preparation for France.”
On his selection Jones said: “It is always about winning the next game so we have picked the best squad available. At the same time we wanted to bring some young players in because we need to keep building our depth so for those new players it is an exciting opportunity for them.”
England will assemble at Pennyhill Park on Wednesday and travel to Portugal on Thursday ahead of their first match against France in Paris on Sunday 2nd February.
Last week Jones’ coaching staff were confirmed for the Guinness Six Nations with attack coach Simon Amor and forwards coach Matt Proudfoot joining defence coach John Mitchell and skills coach Steve Borthwick.

Re: Refreshed side
For my own benefit, I've reorganised into positions, think these are right but shout if I've got any wrong
LH - Mako, Marler, Genge
Hooker - George, LCD, Dunn
TH - Sinckler, Williams, Stuart
Lock - Itoje, Kruis, Lawes, Launchbury, Ewels, Moon
Back row - Curry, Underhill, Ludlam, Earl, Hill
SH - Youngs, Heinz
FH - Farrell, Ford, Umaga
Centre - Tuilagi, Joseph, Devoto, Dingwall
Back 3 - Daly, May, Watson, Thorley, Furbank
Based on that, would appear Earl is being lined up for No 8. Strange that Nowell isn't in too unless he's picked up a knock. Dombrandt would have been in for me

To be fair no SHs have been banging down the door. Looks like he wants to invest time and effort into Mitchell who will be training with the squad.
