Re: Pay at the top behinds the scenes..
We have been discussing this on the Scottish threads and it seems almost unbelievable.
It seems likely that a lot of the increase is an accumulated bonus, maybe earnt over a few years. It does beg the question though, just exactly what that bonus was for?
Dodson has generally been felt to have been a good thing for Scottish rugby, we are in a much better place financially and have taken some big calls on recruitment and sponsorship on his watch.
There are however lots of on-going governance issues that remain unresolved and he does come over as a bit of a modern day Mussolini at the top of pile, with suitable amounts of bombast when it suits him. maybe we needed that guy at the time to steady the ship, but it is less clear that we need him now, when we can't afford to keep our top players or recruit suitable alternatives.
He does not seem to get, or to care that he is under scrutiny and is accountable as well and this may come to a head sooner rather than later.
Toonie was very much his appointment and his man and after such a poor WC, it is hard to see how he can't take a lot of the responsibility should things go belly up again this 6N.

I’m astonished at the level of pay. I can’t figure that Phillip Browne at IRFU is on million-plus salary/benefits package. Is this the norm?

Well it's like politicians isn't it. They've a pile of other people's money and they can decide their own pay. Why wouldn't they treat themselves.

It’s borderline ridiculous the disparity between rich and poor in the uk. It has increased massively over the last fifty years and is surely a huge reason for the discontent and apathy we all see.

It is a disgrace and it's a sign of a deep divide in this country. It's increasingly 'the people' in Britain and then people who travel and work all over the world, who just happen to be employed and own or run British based businesses.
The bonus culture is ridiculous and seems more fitting to the early 1920s than 2020.
