Euro 96 thread Empty Euro 96 thread

Seeing as today marks Day One of Euro 96 (shown as live on the ITV Hub and on ITV4), I felt it was worthy of a thread.

England v Switzerland tonight

Spain v Bulgaria, Germany v Czech Republic and Denmark v Portugal tomorrow

Games every day until the final on Friday 29th May

I fancy the Germans might do well...

Thanks for the heads up. Have enjoyed watching some of the retro ITV coverage during the lockdown, listening to the commentary from the excellent Brian Moore, and hearing a time when a Wembley stadium actually had an excellent atmosphere.

Whilst the standard of football in 1996 was clearly a lot slower than that of today, the levels of sportsmanship were far superior. No excess rolling on the floor after a tough challenge and dissent to the officials is less, which is good to see.

A shame that the England side of 1996-1998, which had an excellent blend of youth, experience and skill, never achieved anything substantial. A further shame that neither Venables nor Hoddle got a prolonged spell as England manager, like that which Robson/Sven enjoyed.
