2020/21 Premier League Thread: VAR Check Complete - No Cough
First topic message reminder :
We have our 20 as Fulham take the playoff spot and we welcome back West Brom, Fulham and, most importantly to the nation (apparently) Leeds.

100%, but I dont know one Spurs fan who wants him. Name over ability, it seems.
On us, yeah we missed CL, but it kinda doesnt matter. That could have been a big boon, but we'd probably have overspent on bad choices to justify it, got knocked out early and been left with the wage bill. The fun of European football is that the players get the reward and the fans get something fun and different. I don't think that will matter to West Ham fans whether it's a night in Bosnia or Turin.

As with Leicester, the difference between them and the top 4 is a bit of squad depth - teams that have prolonged success can simply sign more good players. After all, would you rather be a fringe first team player at Liverpool (for example), after a Champions League win and Premier League in in the last two seasons, or one (even probably getting more game time) at West Ham for whom in most seasons not being in the relegation battle is a success? I think most players would rather play 15 matches a season and get some winner's medals than play 30-40 matches in mid-table obscurity.

And those players end up as jokes and footnotes for a reason.

Spurs attempting to re-appoint Pochettino
Last time I checked, he’d lost the squad, and Spurs were nearing a relegation fight.

That would be...bizarre to say the least. Especially since Pochettino managed to finish second in a one-horse race with PSG in the time he's been away.

I guess if Levy's going to give him funds and let him blow up the squad, the current Pochettino is better than trying to find the next one

Could it be something to do with Kane maybe? I mean, it wouldn't be a terrible hire as such, there just seem to be so many more interesting candidates that would presumably be interested.Just John wrote:Last time I checked, he’d lost the squad, and Spurs were nearing a relegation fight

I’d bet you those players want him back.
Don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone, maybe. Tired of Poch and unable to motivate themselves, a spell of time with Jose probably showed them what they were missing.

Brentford on the verge of reaching the promised land. 2-0 up in the play-off final, just under a half to play.

It'll be very strange seeing Brentford in the PL, but they seem like they've been a pretty well run club for a while now so good on them getting the reward for it.

Tbh, Everton & Ancelotti was a weird combo, and they were never going to match Carlo’s ambitions, at this stage of his career.

They went for name over anything else and ended up 12th and 10th.
Lucky break. No compensation to pay, a host of good managers out of work.

The way people have been talking you would have thought they'd been threatening the top four but have gone from being average to expensive average.

Re: 2020/21 Premier League Thread: VAR Check Complete - No Cough
A lot of people probably just remember the bright start to the season and stopped paying attention once they faded.
Everton and Spurs both seem to want a big name to show that they're a big club, when they'd probably be better off looking for someone still making their name to take them up a level.

On one side, a man who demands money and will bitch to the press if he doesnt get it.GSC wrote:Conte and Levy should be good for a laugh
On the other, a man who is considered one of the worst to negotiate with and was happy to see one of Spurs's best ever sides not improved upon with new players.

The super league clubs are to be fined £20m. An absolute joke and only goes to highlight the continued corruption.
That’s about a year of De Gea’s salary

Only just found out that’s 3.3m each.
Joke. Love to hear the “won’t somebody please think of the fans” argument now.

Bit of a sideways move from Wolves, but can see the appeal, as Moshiri will keep spending, whereas Fosun needed to sell stars to fund a rebuild at Molineux
