Great start by France. Little Dupont in with the opening score. Game on.

Tough, tough call from Barnes on Ireland there. That's a penalty try to my mind.

The breakdown is very vicious.

A lovely technical decision there that will set Iirhs hearts all a-flutter: a maul held up, but driven over the line at the last moment to ensure Ireland keep possession and win the scrum v.

French physicality looks impressive. Ireland will have to do more than just offer a blunt battering ram today if they want to take the title.
Can't believe this Irish team could win the 6Ns tbh. It's not been a vintage year. France have been the best team but...wow...that Scotland game.

Nice score. Ireland level it up and just make the yellow card pay.
Should have been a penalty try tbh, Barnes has done the Irish dirty with that one.
Game on once more.

Oof, this is embarrassing.
They're playing under the old laws because...wait for it...this tournament started back in February.

Shocking French play at times already. The sublime and the crud. Sacrebleu...

Dupont is one of the few NH players where you can reasonably make the claim that they're the best player in their position in the world, fair play. World class talent.

Brave by Ireland. Shades of the QF v NZ where they turned down points for the corner. Too early to be chasing the game...

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
Yep, brave but stupid. Should have taken the kick. 1 point behind going in to half time would be a good result.
France look good. Can't see Ireland doing this. Or maybe...who knows, it's so close. Poor call with that kick though. Shows a lack of leadership.

Should have gone for the sticks
Build the score.
We will see if France keep up this level of aggression or if they will start to give away more penalties.
Great game to finish on though.

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
France tired dramatically against Wales in the second half last week. If Ireland play their territory game and box clever they could squeeze the 7+ point win out of this game but decisions like that at the end won't help.

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
Fair play, that's an absolutely gorgeous try. Loose kick to backfield and France score an absolute magical try on the counter. Vintage France.

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
Interesting point by MJ in the break re the France YC - if the Irish player knocked the ball forwards before the French player batted it out shouldn't it have been a scrum France as the knock-on came before the penalty?

Wish we could have a good ref like Barnes, the guy is class. Irish hate now incoming....
Pretty good play by France. Nothing special, simple game plan, very effective. I think France play how Pivac wants Wales to play but France actually look good.

No, a penalty overrules a knock on, particularly so for deliberate foul play.

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
That decision to turn down the kick in front of the posts is looking worse and worse by the minute for France. The old Robshaw curse has clearly got its hooks in - "let's do what we did against NZ to prove we aren't chokers and to rid the ghosts and...oh dear, oh no, wait we're losing sight of the other team...". Bad decision.
France now 12 points up with 3 tries on the board. Is it out of the question that they could tear it up and end up winning the title as they deserve to?

Yeah I think Ireland a f'ing this up. Can't deal with the French power.
If France get a 4th try before the final quarter we have an interesting conclusion to this game.

Ah okay, quite a task for France. So the fact they won against England doesn’t come into it?

It is only a knock on if the Irish player doesn't re-gather, the dileberate play by the French player made it impossible illegally. If he had done it legally then the conversation would have been different.
Or that is how I understand it

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
Momentum was with France there. Good kick, but I do think the corner was the better option.
Game is slipping away from Ireland though, absolutely. Not sure they can deal with the French counter attack even if they do get field position and control of the ball.

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
This makes sense. It's only a knock on if it touches the floor or another player and this touch is not taken into account in the same way you ignore an illegal tackle for a penalty try call.Brendan wrote:rugby racing and beer wrote:Heaf wrote:Interesting point by MJ in the break re the France YC - if the Irish player knocked the ball forwards before the French player batted it out shouldn't it have been a scrum France as the knock-on came before the penalty?

Nope. Believe its points from wins etc. Then point difference. Then tries scored. Then a shared championship.

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
3 converted tries for Ireland with no response from France would see them win the title - level on points difference, but the try bonus point would give it to them overall.
Can't see that happening, though.
France have momentum now.

Re: France v Ireland Six Nations 2020 Match Thread
France just look too strong.
In the end I think we're going to see the two teams cancel each other out. France might get another 1, possibly 2, tries. But not enough for the 30+ point difference

Murray and Sexton haven’t been great today. They’re probably the sort of half-backs you’d like to come off the bench for 20-30 minutes. I’ll put my neck out there... Cooney and Byrne should be starters
