2021-22 England v India Tipping Competition - The Reboot
First topic message reminder :
2021 India v England Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both England and India whom you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Crawley, Root, Broad, Anderson
Gill, Kohli, Jadeja, Bumrah
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches and run outs in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for caught & bowled or run outs from own bowling) if you want.
e.g.
Bairstow, Pujara
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Billings or Pant... or "the same" amount of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
India
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the Test match result.
e.g.
England
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 25 points for 100 runs.
extra 30 points for 150 runs.
extra 45 points for 200 runs.
extra 60 points for 250 runs.
extra 125 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting: (per innings)
100 runs = 125 points. A player scores 137 runs + 25 = 162 points.
150 runs = 205 points. A player scores 177 runs + 25 + 30 = 232 points.
200 runs = 300 points. A player scores 243 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 = 343 points.
250 runs = 410 points. A player scores 282 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 442 points
300+ runs = 585 points. A player scores 321 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 125 = 606 points.
Bowling: (per innings)
25 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 30 points for 6-fer, 45 for 7-fer, 60 for 8-fer, 75 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 125 points + 50 = 175 points
6 wickets = 150 points + 50 + 30 = 230 points.
7 wickets = 175 points + 50 + 30 + 45 = 300 points
8 wickets = 200 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 385 points
9 wickets = 225 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 = 485 points
10 wickets = 250 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 + 100 = 610 points
Caught and bowled = 25 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 50 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsman earns you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection. e.g. - Billings or Pant.
Or if you think they will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test match = 75 points.
b) If you guess all 5 Test match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 375 + 125 = 500 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 75 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped).
It doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points up until the point of the replacement of the injured player from the field – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Hopefully Sam is setting himself for a six wicket blitz on Sunday ; to be followed by a breezy thirty not out to bring the team home with the bat
Still probably wouldn't lift me far off the bottom three ...

That scenario would be good for you in real life, alfie! However I've got you down for an India win here...

First figure - accumulative score / accumulative average score
Second figure in [brackets] - daily score / daily average
Note:
Just realised I forgot to add some of the bonus points (e.g. Root 180+20+25).
I thought the scores looked a bit low on such a high-scoring day! Luckily nobody picked it up...
Apologies everyone. All fixed now. Not much change in the rankings.

Cheers as always Joey!
I think that's my best ever tipping comp performance. I'm still 3rd so that says a lot about previous performance to be fair.
Given I had the lowest score for day 4 I really needed that bumper total on day 5.

Thanks KC. There's always lots of ups and down on the table... just like out on the field itself.
Always like looking at the player's scores. They give a good all round indication of overall performance for each match (and over the series) and they are also a good guide for forthcoming selections. I need to pay more attention obviously. The numbers don't lie.... much!

Thanks Duty.
I need to get my thinking cap on with less than a day to go. Also check the weather forecast.

I’ll get mine in early so KPF can’t complain about me picking the same team as him, despite getting mine in for Test 2 first as well…
Root, Bairstow, COverton, Robinson (Moeen if Craig doesn’t play)
Kohli, Rohit, Ishant, Bumrah (Siraj if for some reason India drop one of the bowlers!)
Pant
Root, Kohli
India win the toss and bat
India win
Cheers as always PJ!

Cheers Lowland. Hope you don't mind Tino starting 50 points below you.
We were all worried when he went missing from here but it turns out he was on a much needed holiday in South Devon... where he spent part of one day crabbing and watching a greedy gull steal a young boy's chips from right out of his hands. Needless to say that resulted in tears.

Re: 2021-22 England v India Tipping Competition - The Reboot
That's right. I'm hoping for some points from the India upper order today. Their low scores in the first innings didn't help anyone.
Interesting to note the current team scores for this Test and the resulting overall impact.
After Lords:
England:
1809 [1034] - average player score 164.50 [94.00]
India:
2020 [1167] - average player score 183.60 [106.10]
And at the start of Day 3 at Headingley:
England:
2492 [683.00] - average player score 226.60 [62.10]
India:
2272 [252.00] - average player score 206.50 [22.90]
India's 211 point lead was mown down just after lunch on Day 1 at Headingley and the trend has continued.
England is now 220 points ahead overall across the Series thus far. A 431-point turnaround since Lord's.

How did I do that ?! Anyone ever had a zero before ? I guess my Indian bats haven't yet come to the crease and my England bowlers were not among the wickets ... ah well tomorrow can hardly get worse - in fact it literally can't ...
I blame Robinson for not letting Jimmy have some strike to score a quick 12 not out.
Those with faith in Pujara will no doubt be even happier when he reaches his double century sometime on Saturday

Not sure, there may have been one or two zero scores on a similar day with few bastmen, wicket takers and catchers. We've had days completely washed out or severely interrupted by rain when nobody has scored but that's a different scenario.
On the plus side, we've had members get the lowest score one day and then the highest score the next - on a few occasions.

To save Alfie, you may have missed Bumrah and Shami's wickets yesterday morning off the scoring, unless they were already added in.
