2021-22 England v India Tipping Competition - The Reboot
2021 India v England Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both England and India whom you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Crawley, Root, Broad, Anderson
Gill, Kohli, Jadeja, Bumrah
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches and run outs in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for caught & bowled or run outs from own bowling) if you want.
e.g.
Bairstow, Pujara
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Billings or Pant... or "the same" amount of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
India
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the Test match result.
e.g.
England
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 25 points for 100 runs.
extra 30 points for 150 runs.
extra 45 points for 200 runs.
extra 60 points for 250 runs.
extra 125 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting: (per innings)
100 runs = 125 points. A player scores 137 runs + 25 = 162 points.
150 runs = 205 points. A player scores 177 runs + 25 + 30 = 232 points.
200 runs = 300 points. A player scores 243 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 = 343 points.
250 runs = 410 points. A player scores 282 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 442 points
300+ runs = 585 points. A player scores 321 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 125 = 606 points.
Bowling: (per innings)
25 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 30 points for 6-fer, 45 for 7-fer, 60 for 8-fer, 75 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 125 points + 50 = 175 points
6 wickets = 150 points + 50 + 30 = 230 points.
7 wickets = 175 points + 50 + 30 + 45 = 300 points
8 wickets = 200 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 385 points
9 wickets = 225 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 = 485 points
10 wickets = 250 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 + 100 = 610 points
Caught and bowled = 25 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 50 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsman earns you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection. e.g. - Billings or Pant.
Or if you think they will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test match = 75 points.
b) If you guess all 5 Test match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 375 + 125 = 500 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 75 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped).
It doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points up until the point of the replacement of the injured player from the field – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

So you'll see now that the table has been adjusted. Everyone got either 20 or 40 extra points.
And Alfie... you got 20 points yesterday. Phew!
Thanks for pointing it out Duty. On the ball as usual. You too KP_fan.

I missed it myself : had persuaded myself that it must have been Siraj or Ishant that took the wicket...
Don't think it is going to rocket launch me up the table though

Notes:
Congratulations to our esteemed leader, JDizzle, who maintains a 120-point lead over KP_Fan; with King Carlos only 30 points behind him.
Soul Requiem [321], Duty [318] and King Carlos [308] all scored very well on the final day of the Test.
The above trio correctly picked the England win and Buttler taking the most dismissals, so earned 125 bonus points along with Alfie and Wadey.
Quite a few of us collected the 50 bonus points for Robinson's 5-fer.
I'm really looking forward to the 4th Test commencing at the Oval on Thursday with the Series level at 1-1.

Definitely a (late) Indian summer for Pujara. It was good to see him score a few runs; and to see you swallow some handy points, Guildford.
Looking at the main discussion thread there's still a few question marks on the final team selection I see.
I sort of agree with Duty's team although I'd support the necessary changes (Bairstow to keep instead of Buttler on paternity leave) and bring Pope in for another chance. Not sure about Curran but does he have a good record at his home ground, Guildford? Otherwise I've always rated Woakes.
I'd play Jimmy again. With the series level the selectors shouldn't get too fancy with rotations at this stage, especially with the two changes above. There's a slight risk of overworking him but in some respects - it's a boom-boom-boom... or bust scenario. Say India win this one; then you don't want added selection pressure for the 5th Test. Try and get the job done now... and then keep pushing on with the best you've got for Old Trafford.
So fielding the best team available/possible, I'd go for something like:
Burns, Hameed, Malan, Root, Bairstow, Pope, Moeen, Woakes, Robinson, Overton, Anderson.
As for India. I also wouldn't chop and change too much either. Replace Ishant and Jadeja. Bring in Ashwin and either Shadur or Yadav.

Poopie!
Forget to get my picks in!
I'll go Root and Pope & Anderson and Robinson
Kohli and Pant & Thakur and Siraj
Root and Rahul for catches
Bairstow for keeping
Not sure what to do about the toss as I missed it. Could I split it and say England win toss but chose to bat rather than bowl?
I'll go England to win.

JD, so Woakes it is.
Who is your 2nd bowler for India...?
Also confirming...
Alfie: Jadeja for Ashwin
Duty: Yadav for Ashwin
James: Jadeja for Ashwin
KC: Bumrah and Siraj (no Ashwin)
Guildford: Jadeja for Ashwin
Lowland: Jadeja and Siraj (no Shami); So Burns/Root/Ali/Anderson - Pujara/Kohli/Jadeja/Siraj... yes?
Soul: your other Indian bowler besides Siraj? (no Ashwin or Shami)
Olly: Jadeja for Ashwin and Bumrah (no Siraj)

It was a strange scoring day. Think you were on 0 for a while then had a late surge. Lots of low/high scores on alternate days. You'll be back!
It should also be an interesting final day tomorrow. Lots at stake in the real world and on here.

Just read. So our man Jamie Smith has come to the rescue for Surrey. He can bat, he can keep, he can save a team in a precarious position and he's an all-round top fella. He's still quite young though but I guess his ears will grow and turn outwards with time... as in the mould of Adam Gilchrist's.

Notes:
JDizzle has extended his lead out to 261 points.
It's not unassailable for KP_fan... depending on the upcoming OT picks of course. The pressure is well and truly on!
I also wouldn't write off Duty, James and King Carlos either. Well, not yet anyway. Strange things can happen in this game!
(You can PM me your selections if you want... secret ballot style and I'll acknowledge receipt without posting any details on here)
JD, KP_Fan, James, Olly and myself all collected the 75-point bonus for picking the India win.
Everyone got 25 points for wicket keeper dismissals. Some may probably query YJB's 5 caught behinds versus Pant's 3... but Rishabh was also involved in the 2 run outs. So it's Even Stephen's for us all in the wicket keeper dismissals department. I hope everybody's OK with that.
It's interesting looking at the Overall Team Scores and the Individual Scores for this Test in particular. It was a major claw-back from India after their heavy innings defeat at Headingley and they are now 32 points in front. A very close series indeed despite what some are saying on the other thread.
As for individual players; Thakur's spectacular performances (in both innings) earned him some decent points, along with the official player of the match, Rohit Sharma. But (soon to be) Sir Christopher Woakes Kt OBE also had a great match too and should give more hope for England fans at OT.
I still haven't heard from Wadey so his points are provisional at this stage. So Alfie... you could be nipping at Guildford's heels shortly.
If we don't see him soon; then please note that the average score will be affected since we'll be back to the Dirty Dozen.
Quick turnaround again - so rest up for a day or two and then get your selections in by Thursday. Thanks again everyone!

Joey - Well, yes, but you don't appear to have given me any points for my carefully assessed forecast of a draw. Surely, I don't have to suffer the despair of yesterday's defeat without you punishing me further just because we batted in brain dead fashion too much of the afternoon?
Come to think of it, I suppose you do. Oh well, onwards and upwards ... or downwards! Thanks again.

Sorry Guildford.
Nice try; but I ought to give you a special bonus for your excellent character assassination of that complete pillock, Jarvo. That woke me up!
Were you sitting in the Mickey Stewart Members' Pavilion or the new Galadari Stand? Some great shots of the ground during the broadcast. At one time I thought I could almost see Bat Towers in the distant yonder (looking south-west from atop of the Gasholder) behind the new developments around Battersea Park.

No, we were in the OCS Stand, I think it's called these days. Opposite the Mickey Stewart Members' Pavilion. Good spot, close to behind the bowlers' arm and next to where the press boys were grouped. I had a word with George Dobell who came across well.
I've watched Surrey from the top of the new Galadari Stand and smuggled my friends up there for the experience as play ended on Saturday. Spectacular views of the ground and across the City although I couldn't quite make out Bat Towers!

Thanks Lowland. So... I've got you down for:
Burns / Buttler / Ali / Anderson - Pujara / Kohli / Jadeja / Siraj (Ashwin / Shami? reserves) - Burns / Kohli - Pant - India, bat - England win.

No worries, KP. You can send me a PM if you decide anytime beforehand. I've already received JD's picks that way.

As much as it doesn’t really matter, it feels like a competitive advantage to know who is batting/bowling fourth innings when picking your bowlers?
