Edinburgh were good across the board tonight, especially considering the players they left out!
Vellacott just seems to have made such a difference in the speed they play at. Surely he will be in the 6N squad, maybe ahead of George Horne, whose form seems to have evaporated.
If they beat Benetton at home next friday, they will certainly be in a decent place.

What's most pleasing about the Edinburgh win is when you consider who wasn't playing
1 Schoeman
2 Mcinally
3 De Bruin
4 Gilchrist
5 Toolis
6 Ritchie
7 Watson
8 Mata
9 Sheil
10 VDW
11 Blain
12 Taylor
13 Bennett
14 Graham
15 Immelman
Which is almost the full first XV.
It's been a good start for Edinburgh but we're yet to come up against the real big boys. Will be interesting to see if this attacking style works against bigger and better teams.

Great performance! Hodgson was immense, the entire back row was terrific (so pleasing to see Bradbury on form again), Vellacott was electric and the back three all had standout moments. It was probably one of Kinghorn's best outings at 10 as well.
I know the Dragons aren't a top side at the moment, but it was a really good performance.
I also watched the Weegies yesterday. Really frustrating to watch, and some bonkers ill discipline. Wilson has every right to be hacked off with that.

Does anyone want to do a rundown of the Glasgow game (who played well, who didn't)? Don't have Premier Sports anymore but sounds like it was for the best.

I think it is a game that most of us just want to move on from and sharpish!
Let's just hope we bounce back like we did last time we were cr8p out at Treviso!

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
Hazel, Benetton kick off we set up a ruck in our 22 and Horne box kicks...too long for the chasers; too short for a decent clearance. Benetton 15 runs in a try. Two minutes from the end and we're 2pounts ahead and 5 metres from their line. We turn over the ball (knock on IIRC) in the following phase we concede a needless penalty. They kick for the lineout. We concede a penalty at the lineout which they convert to win.
Oh yes, there was an earlier penalty they kicked to the corner, maul, maul goes to ground and no Glasgow players defend the blind side. None. Not one. Benetton score unopposed.
If it was a horse race we would have demanded a stewards enquiry.

Nice touch from Edinburgh getting the players to train and play with the socks of their childhood clubs this week. The non-Scots have adopted a local club of their choice. I love it that Bill Mata will be wearing Broughton socks because he lives near there!
Bit random that Vellacott chose Lasswade as they helped him with gym facilities when he moved up. What's he doing living all the way out there! That's a hell of a trek getting to Murrayfield every day.

Yes JP was rumoured and it has now come to fruition, he should be a real asset and it looks like we are strengthening in the right places now.
I wonder what this means for Ritchie Gray as this looks like a younger version of him and presumably some of his wages will be going towards this.
Could this be his last season with Glasgow?

On JP Du Preez, Bain looks like he might be on the way out judging by his lack of use and it appears that Wilson has decided Samuel and Williamson won't be ready.
That leaves Gray, Cummings, McDonald, Harley and Bean as the front line second rows. Cummings will be away with Scotland and Harley may need to cover BS here and there. Not a bad signing, though would rather see what we have in the youngsters.
Edinburgh have gone for it against Treviso. Will be a step up in opposition for Currie so hopefully he can deliver.

The two youngsters are probably a couple of years away from being ready in truth, both still going to be playing U20s this season and hopefully they will get a taste of action here and there but we should not be expecting to much from them just yet.

I see on The Offside line article about JP signing, one guy in the comments thinks he will be eligible for Scotland on residency grounds in 3-5yrs (whichever it is lol, I'm not sure) :O.
Its a bit early to be talking about that eh, especially as he hasn't even played a match for Glasgow yet.

It's 5 years ow Shaun, so probably not that realistic a possibility.

Fecc me Georgie have you read everything in the ward and now your onto the Frank Carson joke book?
Spare us , please.
Anyhoo.
DW may well be selecting his side for tomorrow with the upcoming trip tp La Rochelle in mind. Some players will need rested while others need a run out if they are to be considered. I can't see Sam Johnson being risked tomorrow, mainly because no-one else has looked like being a starting 12 this season.
Here's my Tonnie-esque XV
1. Kebble Macbeth
2. Matthews Stewart
3. Ragnar Pirate
4. Ritchie
5. McDonald Cummings
6. Batman
7. Darge Mullet
8. Dempsey
9. Dobbie Price
10. Miotti Meatball
11. Cancilliere Fifita
12. Stafford
13. Shona
14. Forbes
15. McKay
I think that selection is slightly less funny than GC's joke but a lot fresher.

I see this as a good thing - I call it the leinster lesson. Not to have a first team but to have a squad of 35 that can all slip seamlessly in and out of the team

Going full bore at scrum time with the starters. Two locks on the bench suggests we are looking for set-piece dominance throughout and need 80 minutes from Darge.
Scott Cummings misses out the day after his 25th birthday. Has he looked right since coming back last month?
Get to see what Miotti and McKay can do. Really looking forward to the reports on Steyn. I am not alone liking him at 13 as a strike runner.
I am guessing we are looking to bully Dragons upfront and then spread it out wide to the dangermen.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
I’d imagine if the wide men are danger men, Glasgow would’ve taken a bit of joy from seeing Rio Dyer and Jonah Holmes a bit exposed at times v Edinburgh.
Dragons: Jordan Williams; Jonah Holmes, Aneurin Owen, Jamie Roberts, Rio Dyer; Sam Davies, Dan Babos; Aki Seiuli, Ellis Shipp, Leon Brown, WIll Rowlands, Joe Maksymiw, Harrie Keddie (capt), Ollie Griffiths, Aaron Wainwright.
Replacements: James Benjamin, Josh Reynolds, Mesake Doge, Joe Davies, Huw Taylor, Tavis Knoyle, Josh Lewis, Adam Warren.
Dragons bolstered by some internationals returning to the starting line up (Brown, Rowlands and Wainwright). Think the bench looks a little weak in parts again, although I prefer our replacement props this week. The hooker is a converted open side flanker (flanker-centre-hooker). A fairly inexperienced 9 might put a bit of pressure on Davies. Hopefully we use Roberts a lot better this week.

Edinburgh looking confident. Benneton have looked dangerous in attack too but their scrum is getting mashed.
Lovely run from Kinghorn in the set up to the 2nd try. His kicking is mince though!

Benneton are a stuffy old side who just won't go away
Edinburgh need a bit of distance on the scoreboard. maybe start taking (and getting!) a few of their kicks!

One of the problems in having Kinghorn as 10 and back 3 cover is that if you lose a winger it's a major overhaul and disruption to the gameplan.
Hoyland went off injured - normally he'd just be replaced by another winger but instead we have bring in a new playmaker and move Blair to the wing. Very disruptive!

anyone want to change their mind about Kinghorn at 10 for Scotland? Every match he plays he looks more and more assured. He is no magician at 10 but IMO he is a lot better than Hastings because of his better decision making

Bradbury MoM this week and that is two good performances back to back.
Is he making a bid to get back into the Scotland team? I wonder what has turned him around?

Job done for Edinburgh - that's 3 BP wins in a row now.
What I like about Edinburgh this season is we can relatively seamlessly shift through the gears throughout the game. First half we were all out attack but when Treviso started coming back into it we tightened things up and went back to basics. Defence was excellent. We had a lot of experience off the bench and it showed to close out the game.
Bradbury put in another strong performance and if he keeps this up will be Scotland's number 8 in the 6N. We all know he's the missing link at 8 for Scotland but has been frustratingly inconsistent, and didn't seem to be fully focused over the last few years. No idea what's changed this season but it's working!

Just back from the game. Ugly at times, and a bit stop/start, but I'll gladly take those 5 points against a stubborn team.
Bradbury had a strong game, as did Graham and Kinghorn (minus the goal kicking). Gilchrist is another who seems a new player under Blair, really starting to influence games.
The new stadium really is a cracking place to watch rugby too.

Fantastic result for Edinburgh. No idea how they’ve managed to light a fire under Bradbury but long may it continue, he’s in fantastic form and is at the centre of everything constantly talking to the team. Love it.
Kinghorn is coming along nicely but needs to keep working on his passing, they’re too often wayward and either at peoples head or behind them causing them to check their run. Not buying that he’s anywhere near overtaking Hastings in the Scotland pecking order yet though, sorry TJ. Promising signs though, hopefully he continues to settle in the more he plays at 10.
Very envious of your trip to the stadium fES, will have to try and get up there at some point!

Not buying that he’s anywhere near overtaking Hastings in the Scotland pecking order yet though, sorry TJ. Promising signs though, hopefully he continues to settle in the more he plays at 10.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
Every match I have seen Hastings play 10 2 or 3 times he dithers when the planned move is not on and gets caught in possession and turns over the ball. At his best he is better than Kinghorn no doubt but because of that i just do not trust Hastings to get it right at critical moments. I would rather play meatball or Kinghorn

Danny Wilson, in his pre match interview was asked about the signing of JPDP and agreed it was a quality signing and pertinently referred to 'more to come'
That sounds interesting.
