Nice specimen on the spider. Doesn't look like any false widow I've ever seen but I'm no expert. We have loads of false widows here but they all have brown legs and white markings on their abdomen. That one you posted doesn't have those characteristics. Nice looking thing though.

If you read the comments there are a fair number of 'got bitten by a false widow 2 years ago and still recovering' stories.

Solifugeless fist.

Jeff's Tw**t's been quoted on a website that's not 606v2 or Tw*tter (he goes by the name Jazz Paul):

Might appear so on the surface but there's a deep vein of sarcasm and irony which runs through his Tw*tter persona and provides some context for individual tw**ts.

Fleeting fleeing fist.

Nearly got attacked by a wasp just then. I was hosing this purple crap off the paving. Bloody ibis (or vultures?) did several craps out there which are right in my eyeline to the pool from the sofa.

It's as though someone had dropped 3 or 4 tubs of Activa Probiotics TM Multi Berry yoghurt... massive piles of sh!t... but a very nice colour actually!

Then the wasp came at me. Like in a cartoon I directed the blast of water in its face and slowed down its acceleration towards me. Think at the end it did a quick 180° turn and then buzzed away.

Going out to water the front now... 2 hot days coming up.

Sleepy Siconds.

Youngest son is on a 3 day scout camp, pack on his back etc. As parents we are obviously keen to find out how he's doing. He sent a text to me last night.
'Would you be able to restock our beer supply tomorrow?'

Tird of paradise

Glad to hear that scouts have found some useful pursuits, knots aren't going to help make your problems disappear like beer does.

Going to a pub quiz tonight for the first time in what must be years.

Do you think he might be DJ J*zzy Jeff in real life?

Shah! Shah! Shah! used to call him that. So maybe you're on to something.

If there are any questions on arthropods, English cricket since 1993 or WWII, disappear to the toilet and give me a call. I'm here for you.

Cheers.  Going to brush up on the capitals of Oceania before I go - think we'll have everything covered.

You can tweet Jeff/Geoff if any j*zz questions arise.

J*zz is beneath me.  Same as soap operas.  I take pride in my ignorance on these matters.

J*zz is for c*nts (and Jeff).

I wonder if Shah would let me take credit for that, now that he's busy running Afghanistan. I don't really want to ask in case he has me thrown off a building.

Cheers.  Going to brush up on the capitals of Oceania before I go - think we'll have everything covered.

Adamstown - Pitcairn
Alofi - Niue
Apia - Samoa
Avarua - Cook Islands
Canberra - Australia
Hagåtña (Agana) - Guam
Funafuti - Tuvalu
Honiara - Solomon Islands
Majuro - Marshall Islands
Ngerulmud - Palau
Nouméa - New Caledonia
Nuku'alofa - Tonga
Pago Pago - American Samoa
Palikir - Micronesia
Papeete - French Polynesia (Tahiti)
Port Moresby - Papua New Guinea
Port Vila - Vanuatu
Saipan - Northern Mariana Islands
Suva - Fiji
(South) Tarawa (Bairiki) - Kiribati (Kiribas)
Wellington (Te Whanganui-a-Tara) - New Zealand

Cheers, PJ.  I tend to get Palikir and Honiara confused and can never remember Nauru's (which I think is Yaren, and which I see you've left off altogether).  All of the non-country ones (New Caledonia, American Samoa etc) I have no clue about so I might keep this post open on my phone.

Yeah sorry Galts.

I left Nauru off the list because there's hardly any phosphate left on there and it will soon be underwater anyway.

Yaren pretty good shape when it comes to knowing all the capitals of Oceania so you shouldn't have any majuro worries.

Morning all, and thanks for the support. We came second, by 1 point. I wasn't there at the end as our kid started playing up and I had to take him home, can't understand how he could get bored watching his tablet for 2 hours.

No capitals of Oceania which was a bit of a letdown. There was this question though, thought I'd post it on here as I quite liked it.

What does the following stand for: C R h l b w N a P.

Had no idea at first until the quizmaster said that it was geography, then got it in a flash.

Julius is onto it, very impressive as I got it through the capitalised words, not the lower case which is infinitely more difficult.
Hint: Bern isn't a hint.
