Great start for Fiji.
I did think Matavesi’s pass off the lineout was forward mind. It must’ve been checked, as the ref seems to be asking the TMO for everything.

Both teams scoring from poor discipline from the other. Wales just need to get their hands on the ball and remain patient.

Can not believe that Berry had to be talked back up to red, for Christ sake.

Re: Wales International: games, squads, tournaments, chat - 2021/22
That's terrible reasoning from the TMO to force the ref into a red card. That's accidental and a yellow card for me. The tackle wasn't completed enough to stop the Welsh player having the option to get up and go again. Not unusual to see a player go in again when the ball carrier bounced out the tackle. The TMO was just wanting to force Berry into producing the red.
Big let off for Wales who were getting hammered by the Fiji team at the collision.

It was marginal enough for me too, not dangerous enough for a red. A lot like Cody Taylor’s yellow yesterday. Very clumsy though.

What’s accidental about a swinging arm to the head?

Are you guys seeing the right thing?! It was a clear swinging arm punch!

He even looks at his head. There’s no mitigation.

He's trying to wrap the player up because he's knocked him back and he wants to ensure the ball isn't offloaded or Williams gets back to his feet. As Williams is dropping quickly he misjudges it and makes contact to the head. If he wanted to hit him in the head then Williams isn't getting up to play on.
A yellow would have been adequate for me. If you see something similar go the other way you can guarantee it won't be red. PI players always seem to get harsher treatment from officials.

Sam, you’re a danger to the sport mate. We can’t allow that sort of thing. There has to be some sort of deterrent, which is where the red card sanction comes in. It’s one of the clearer ones for me.

Re: Wales International: games, squads, tournaments, chat - 2021/22
Oh that yellow card is a joke. Wales are off their feet at every ruck and have conceded plenty of penalties without warning. Berry certainly being swayed by the home crowd.

The deterrent being the yellow card? Berry agreed with me before the TMO insisted.

All season players have been told any contact to the head, whether accidental or mild, will be sanctioned. Just a soft glance to the head from a shoulder with no intent is a yellow. A swinging arm to the face of a player lying on the floor AFTER the tackle is always going to be treated without mitigation.

Anyway, Wales playing poorly. Can’t cope with the physicality of the Fijians. Great pressure from Fiji.

Re: Wales International: games, squads, tournaments, chat - 2021/22
Straight red for me. The games hard enough as it is without swinging arms to the head. People's careers have been ruined by concussions so players have to be careful. He's cost Fiji a genuine chance here, shame as they don't need to do the silly shots as they were looking comfortable in defence.

I've seen similar not given red. There is little consistency.
I agree with you other post Wales are struggling with the physicality. The managed the ref well for the final 10 minutes, Berry isn't policing them sealing off so they need to go to that. Pick and go frustrate Fiji who don't have the best discipline then use the inevitable penalty to move up the field. Use the ref's interpretation to help you. They've had one crossfield disallowed but the option is definitely there to go for it again.

Always think they make those touchline catches overcomplicated. If you start out you should have to land in, and if you start in you should be allowed to land out. Regardless of whether the ball has crossed the plane of touch.

Yep, all we want is consistency, but I do get the feeling the Pacific Island teams are treated more harshly than the tier one nations

I thought it was a red too, it was a ridiculous thing for the Fijian player to do. It's a shame for Fiji though, would have like to see what they could have done with 15 on the pitch for the whole game.

I'm not sure how Wales have not managed to take more advantage of being against 13 men.

Didn’t help that we turned down about 5 penalty kicks in favour of lineouts in the first half.

What are wales playing at? You do not want to play Fiji (14 men or not) at broken field rugby

Another very harsh yellow card for Fiji. Warning comes very quickly and then the rolling maul goes down because a Welsh player loses his footing. Clear as day in front of the ref. Awful officiating.

Really nice finish there from Cuthbert. Williams nearly killed it with that pass.

Inconsistencies again - how many pens did Oz concede yesterday without even a hint of a yellow for multiple infringements?

Serious question but would wales fans rather lose this to get rid of pivac or scrape a win against a 14 (and 13) man Fiji?
I’d never want my team to lose but wales are a bit all at sea right now

I agree I don’t think Pivac will be removed, no matter what happens. He will make the RWC, after he got that last contract extension.

Anywhere else on the field that's a knock on but I think he's got a bit lucky with the onfield decision being try. All about his speed there.
