2021-22 Ashes Tipping Competition
First topic message reminder :
The 2021-22 Ashes Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both England and Australia who you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Warner, Labuschagne, Starc, Cummins
Malan, Root, Broad, Anderson
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for c&b) if you want.
e.g.
Smith, Stokes
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Australia (Carey) or England (Bairstow... or Buttler) or the same number of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
Australia
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the 1st Ashes Test result.
e.g.
Australia or England or Draw
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
Note:
The figures in bold below represent changes to previous competition scoring values.
I have increased the bonus amounts - for batting and bowling bonuses, the toss and captain's decision and for correctly selecting the test match result - for added point-scoring value.
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 25 points for 100 runs.
extra 30 points for 150 runs.
extra 45 points for 200 runs.
extra 60 points for 250 runs.
extra 125 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting: (per innings)
100 runs = 125 points. A player scores 137 runs + 25 = 162 points.
150 runs = 205 points. A player scores 177 runs + 25 + 30 = 232 points.
200 runs = 300 points. A player scores 243 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 = 343 points.
250 runs = 410 points. A player scores 282 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 442 points
300+ runs = 585 points. A player scores 321 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 125 = 606 points.
Bowling: (per innings)
25 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 30 points for 6-fer, 45 for 7-fer, 60 for 8-fer, 75 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 125 points + 50 = 175 points
6 wickets = 150 points + 50 + 30 = 230 points.
7 wickets = 175 points + 50 + 30 + 45 = 300 points
8 wickets = 200 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 385 points
9 wickets = 225 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 = 485 points
10 wickets = 250 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 + 100 = 610 points
Caught and bowled = 25 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 50 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsman earns you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection for most dismissals across both innings.
Or if you think the wicket keepers will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then you earn 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 25 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 25 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test match = 125 points.
b) If you guess all 5 Test match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 625 + 125 = 750 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 125 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped).
It doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points up until the point of the replacement of the injured player from the field – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Thanks guys.
A little bit of rain around here this morning... will probably be a stop-start kind of day.

Batting - Marnus & Smith / Root & Bairstow - Look, I hate him in the test team more than anyone but he's bound to get a nice 35 at some point.
Bowling - Cummins and Hazy / Anderson and Broad.
Catchers - Warner & Root
Keeper - Carey
Australia win and bowl
Outcome - Australia - even with the bloody rain

Cheers Olly. Happy New Year to you too!
Thanks Dolphin.
No Hazlewood... if I don't hear back I'll have you down for his replacement (Boland) otherwise let me know if you want Starc or someone else.
Still not a squeak from Goose. Last time we heard from him it was:
Labuschagne/Smith/Cummins/Starc, Root/Stokes/Wood/Anderson, Smith/Root, Carey, .... hope you're OK mate.
Thanks Dolphin.

Yes, that's truly a great feat. Bang on average today, Afro
.
The real test will be at the end and see how close we can get to the accumulative average for all 5 tests.
I'm only 2 points above at the moment and you're 24 points above. It's close!

l*l Tino.
Hopefully Broad and Anderson can put on a big stand after Bairstow eventually gets out and then rip through the Aussie top order... excluding Warner (in your best interests) of course.

There should a one month ban on posting on the cricket board for the person that finishes last. I'd deserve it.

I was also seriously thinking of picking him too... and Khawaja. That would have given me more of a buffer over you at this stage, alfie.
Instead, I can feel you nipping at my heels... almost spilling the ice cubes from your glass of scotch in the process.

3727 Guildfordbat [126]
3712 KP_Fan [341]

3425 Soul Requiem [90]
3296 Gooseberry [106]
3280 Compelling and Rich [131]
3262 Lowlandbrit [95]
3183 Tino [70]
Average score: 3589 [141]
First figure - accumulative score / accumulative average score
Second figure in [brackets] - daily score / daily average
Notes:
Duty has consolidated his lead at the top of the leader board and has also broken the 4000-point mark.
KP-fan has Khawaja too... as well as Cameron Green and Jack Leach... so has shot from 12th place to 5th.
With Olly Pope behind the stumps, I'm just going to carry his dismissals as though they were Buttler's for Part 3.
No one has either Buttler (except KP_Fan) or Pope, obviously, and no actual scoring points were accrued from them today anyway.
If Buttler bats tomorrow, KP-fan... you'll get his points. Problem is if he doesn't... do you want to swap for him for Pope or someone else?

You think you've made poor choices ? I thought I would be contrarian and get away with a freak England win - and have kept doubling down (because why not , now ?) : if I'd just gone with the odds and picked Australia every time I'd be ....... well , at least ahead of KP_fan...

Same here. Picked Australia to win 5-0 on the main thread but went with England to win T1 on here. Figure that one out.
I've doubled down ever since because, exactly like you, why the hell not!

Re: 2021-22 Ashes Tipping Competition
How do you think I feel? I almost want to run away rather than put your score up, Tino.
The worst thing is your run of double digit scores. I have to go back and check each time... and say to myself: "Did he really do that badly?"
Unfortunately, the answer has been "yes" on too many occasions.
Don't worry. It happens to the best of us. Duty was also a cellar dweller once upon a time.
And I'm still ashamed of picking against the favourites for the 1st Test and going for a meekly draw. I ought to deduct 100 points from myself!

Looks like a couple of players I've picked, Khawaja and Boland, have been blessed by stupendous returns.
But the lead I have will be down to not very much if it's a draw, I believe.

Yup I surpise myself by finding I have all the 3 centurions, and Green and Leach
Now only Butler needs to be fit enuf to bat and cracks a 70 ball 100 tomm to take Eng to a win
And that will surge me to the top
All.thru 4 tests I set a guideline for myself to not pick Root, Smith, Labuschagne snd Warner and see where I finish.
I do hope Pope's catches would count as Butler's in the final assessment of WKs

Yeah, you've got a great 224-point buffer.
I wouldn't worry about the draw too much... you'd still lead by at least 99 points if that were to happen and it would then boil down to who out of Root/Stokes/Broad/Anderson (for you) and Root/Stokes/Bairstow/Broad (for JD) gets the most runs.

Re: 2021-22 Ashes Tipping Competition
Thanks alfie!
Just to let everyone know...
I discovered a small mistake in the spreadsheet. I accidentally gave Broad a wicket (and an extra 25 points) under his bowling points in addition to putting the 25-point bonus for his 5-wicket haul during Australia's 1st batting innings in the special points cells next to our bowling selections.
Alfie, Duty, Dolphin, JD, Olly, Lowland, myself and Tino all have Broad.
So don't be alarmed if you sit down later with pen and paper to add up your scores and think:
Hey! I'm 25 points short!! What the heck is going on?! (for those of us above)
I've now corrected it. Noticed something was astray when I saw Broady had 173 points and not the correct 148 points (125+15+8) in his individual score for this Test. I don't include the 25-point bonus for that individual score (that's just runs, wickets, catches, etc) but we all get the bonus points in our scores of course.
This little error also had a trickle down affect in the overall team scores, daily scores, daily averages, etc... but rest assured the problem has been fixed and everything has snapped back into place again.

This little error also had a trickle down affect in the overall team scores, daily scores, daily averages, etc... but rest assured the problem has been fixed and everything has snapped back into place again.

Don't think I've won one of these before, but looks as though I'm a narrow favourite going into the last. JDizzle is eligible for the 125 point bonus, isn't he, if he picks the final test outcome correctly, so that could make all the difference in the end.

Good work as ever PJ - looks like I'm going to need to go a little bold in my selections for this final test to overhaul Duty!

Yes, that's correct. He's picked 4 out of 4 correct results thus far. So if he also correctly picks the 5th, then he gets the extra 125 point bonus.
He's the only one in that position too.
