Wales v Scotland 6 Nations Championship Saturday 12 February 2022
First topic message reminder :
Wales v Scotland
6 nations Championship
Principality Stadium
Cardiff
Saturday 12 February
KO 14.15
Well round 2 comes around quickly enough.
On the basis of the first round matches this is a match for Scotland to push on and prove that they are genuine contenders and not just a team that can beat any team on their day. For wales, who did not have such a good start to the tournament, it is a chance to salvage their season and gain some kind of redemption, their fixtures don't get any easier in the next couple of rounds and they may really be up against things if they lose this one.
On paper this could/should be a win for Scotland but we still don't really know how well this team will cope with the mantle of being favourites, especially in a stadium that has been a grave yard for them for a long long time and where we have fallen short on expectations on many a previous visit.
We will certainly see a different Welsh team this weekend as well. They won't have found that performance and result against Ireland, albeit was an extremely professional performance from the men in green, in any shape or form. The players and the public will demand a lot better at home.
So, as usual, another intriguing encounter coming up, which may well define the seasons of both teams.
I think we will see a Scotland team something like this:
1, Schoeman - probably the better of our 2 LHs against England
2. Turner
3. Fagerson Z
4. Gilchrist
5. Skinner
6. Bradbury
7. Watson
8. Fagerson M
9. Price
10. Russell
11. DVDM
12, Redpath - time to bring him in
13. Harris
14. Graham
15. Hogg

Form Scotland I’d say hamish watson and Darcy Graham are playing well. That’s about it though

The Wales defence seemed to be giving up so many metres in the first half but they have tightened up a bit as the game's gone on.
On individuals playing well I think Beard has been very good indeed for Wales.
Ooft. If that's a penalty surely it's also a yellow as Scotland were on a team warning weren't they?

Utter dugshite mentality from Scotland. I saw it hitting the post before it hit the post. They are not switched on today.
And Finn going for the ball like that and intentionally knocking on
Rotten. But hey, it’s all ok, we can lose every game going forward because we beat England.

Very harsh call. Russell's going for a legitimate interception, but gets knocked by a Welsh forward. Easy YC if it's a pen, though.
The warning was irrelevant as it occurred a long time ago.

There's been 4 pens since then. And another there. Scotland should be down to 13 really.Duty281 wrote:Very harsh call. Russell's going for a legitimate interception, but gets knocked by a Welsh forward. Easy YC if it's a pen, though.

I think the warning was specifically for being on the wrong side rather than the number of penalties.
Game was turning into a stalemate so needed something special to spark it back into life. Wasn't 'special' in the best way but it will make the last 10 minutes more interesting

Usually it expires after an unspecified period of time. I've never seen a referee card someone because 30 minutes ago he issued a warning. The process would restart again.

It’s rotten bud. We either knock on or put in an aimless kick and when wales have the ball Zander or someone else decide to ignore the laws of game and give away a silly penalty
All this hype train talk and once again we’re failing miserably to back up a win at home in the following week away.

Fair play to wales though they’re coming up with the big moments when they need them. But yeah we’ve looked completely out of ideas in this half and our execution is grim

Deliberate shoulder to head there by Welsh player. Possible card.
But won’t make any difference.

Yellow IMO. Skinner is going down, first contact isn't with the head but he then rides up and there's force. No card is extremely lenient.

100% agree. TMO and ref have been poor on their card decisions. I thought Russell was very unlucky being as he went with two hands and would have got there but for the Wales prop. Hogg in the first half should have been an obvious yellow but was just a scrum.
There's a much better ref running touch for this game which is madness.

20 phases of nothing from Scotland to end a rubbish game. Big opportunity missed for this Scotland team. Gives greater importance to France/Ireland now.

Great discipline by Wales there. Didn't panic when Scotland quickly got into their half. Kept the shape, kept making their hits, didn't give the penalty and waited for the right ruck to counter.
Very frustrating from a Scotland perspective. Failing to back up a good home performance on the road the next week.
Biggar was good for Wales but Beard the best player on the pitch for me. He's grown into a very good international second row. Nails his set-piece and gets around the park for the full 80 minutes. With AWJ aging and Ball out the picture his rise has been a godsend for this Welsh pack.
