SURREY VS SOMERSET T20 VITALITY BLAST
Surrey have named a 13 man squad for the final Vitality Blast group game against Somerset at Taunton.
Tom Curran is in the squad for the first time this season, but will only play as a batter as he returns to full fitness. Sam Curran and Jason Roy are rested ahead of England’s white ball series against India.
There is no place in the squad for Rory Burns, Ben Geddes, Sunil Narine, Ryan Patel, Nico Reifer or Dan Worrall.
FULL SQUAD:
Jordan capt
Atkinson
T Curran
Evans
Hardie
Jacks
Lawes
McKerr
Moriarty
Overton
Smith
Steel
Topley
Good to have TC back even if only as a batsman, really don't understand why the likes of Patel and Geddes are not given a chance for a game like this.
Would also be nice for the club to update us on Narine's injury
Lawes and Steel to miss out
Over to you chaps

Re: SURREY VS SOMERSET T20 VITALITY BLAST
I guessed Stewie would rest a few but assumed he'd at least name another batsman in the squad. I suppose I was naive to think he would make the obvious selection and pick Geddes.
Without him or any other additional batsman the squad looks light on batting (even with TC as an optimistic 'specialist batsman') and the tail looks long. Makes me wonder whether he will continue the optimistic view and find a place for Steel.

Re: SURREY VS SOMERSET T20 VITALITY BLAST
Thanks, JimBob.
If Tom can only play as a batsman, my view is he should be in the stiffs with others like Patel and Geddes ahead of him in the pecking order for this game. Anyway, I wonder if Tom will join Jacks to open the batting; possible but probably more likely to be his brother or even Evans.
Did Narine get injured on Friday, do you know? He bowled his 4 overs but didn't bat even though we were 6 down at the close. If he is crocked and can't make the Q-F*, that'll be a major problem.
All in all, I agree with you on Steel and Lawes missing out today unless Stewie thinks Steel can cover for Narine which would be a bad mistake and bad news for Atkinson!
* Home Q-F confirmed following Friday's win. We'll play the side which finishes 4th from the Chips with Gravy & Pet Whippets group. My wild tip is that'll be Lancs.

Cheers for the updates, JimBob. I overlooked before that Sam isn’t in the squad. Still not sure about Smith opening.
On paper Somerset look the stronger side. They’ve got a few who could make things happen.

That’s the third time (I think) Smeed has got out in the 90s in a T20 - across the Blast and PSL.
I actually like that. Shows he isn’t interested in personal milestones to the detriment of the team overall score. Easiest thing in the world to push some singles in the 90s and ease your way there.

We're going to get punished for this joke bowling, fielding and captaincy in the knock outs.....home tie or not

240 looked on before Abell and Smeed fell in the same Topley over. That and Jordan’s 3 wickets in the final over maybe spared us 20 or 30 runs but still seems like it was all too late.

Batting wise, we don’t seem too clever either!
Assuming we don’t miraculously turn around tonight’s game, I think that’ll be 3 losses in the last 4. Even though this was effectively a dead rubber for us and echoing Goochie’s post, we have no right to think we can turn on form when we need to.

Re: SURREY VS SOMERSET T20 VITALITY BLAST
Seems we may have peaked too soon in this competition and injuries and international calls coming at an especially bad time and team selection has shown muddled thinking for a while too.
Does anyone know what happened to Atkinson ?
