SURREY VS LEICESTERSHIRE/ DURHAM/ WARWICKSHIRE/ MIDDLESEX ROYAL LONDON ONE DAY CUP
For Olly
Surrey have named a 12 player squad for the game against Leicestershire on 2 August at Guildford.
Rory Burns is currently unavailable as he is recharging before the final games of the County Championship season, Ben Foakes is no doubt doing the same.
Hashim Amla has retired from white ball cricket.
Matt Dunn has recovered from the injury on Sunday whatever it was.
James Taylor remains on the treatment table.
Every one else is playing in a competition called the hundred
Ben Geddes will skipper Surrey for the first time in a classified game.
FULL SQUAD:
B Geddes (c)
N Barnwell
J Blake (wk)
M Dunn
N Kimber
T Lawes
Y Majid
C McKerr
R Patel
N Reifer
C Steel
A Virdi
Absolutely ridiculous that Burns and Foakes have to recharge before the final games of championship and (England in Foake's case.)
Would leave Virdi out after Sunday but probably will be Kimber or Barnwell.
Over to you chaps

Everyone should have been happy at the start! I believe Surrey planned to bowl if they had won the toss.
Good opening 5 over spell from Dunn with 1/12.

Thanks, JimBob. Exactly as you say.
We've done fantastically in the last two games but do feel we somehow punched above our weight and fear that it has to end soon.

I only saw the last few overs online but that was exactly my thought. Steel is pretty dreadful and should never be allowed to bowl the 48th in a 50 over contest.
I've seen Barnwell bowl at the Guildford ground for the Surrey stiffs and in the match against the Sri Lankan kiddies. He was hit and miss, mainly miss. However, given what Middlesex did against most of our attack, I would have given him at least a couple of overs - just might have paid off and wouldn't have put us in any worse position.
Majid had been and gone when I switched on but 2/51 from a full 10 is a proper return for the young man, especially at a smallish (? guessing but assume it was small) outground. Well done to him and also McKerr but not much to write home about from the other bowlers. Excellent catch from Blake to give McKerr his third but by then the damage was done.
As also said, poor captaincy from Geddes. Fine with the bat but doesn't seem to know what he's doing with the bowlers, the field and the match situation.

As for Surrey I appreciate the captain has plenty of bowlers to choose from but surely it can’t be right that we’ve played two matches where a specialist bowler hasn’t bowled a single delivery. I wonder if Rory would agree to play on Sunday if Steel is unable to.

Shocking, meanwhile the clubs twitter account tweets Sheridon Gumbs carried his bat for an unbeaten 259, a new highest score by a Surrey Academy player.guildfordbat wrote:Steel clonked on the head whilst batting and escorted off by the physio. We’re entitled to replace him but don’t have anyone registered to play at the ground! Former player and now women’s coach has been doing 12th man duties.
Hmmm.
They wouldn't would they?

Well, it wouldn't really be that much different from us having thrown Majid into this tournament and he's done more than ok.jimbobgooner wrote:Shocking, meanwhile the clubs twitter account tweets Sheridon Gumbs carried his bat for an unbeaten 259, a new highest score by a Surrey Academy player.guildfordbat wrote:Steel clonked on the head whilst batting and escorted off by the physio. I saw Mr Gumbs play for the Surrey stiffs last year in a T20 game that was unusually held at the Oval. Tbh, I remember his wonderful name more than the player but wish him well if he should get a call up.
