LIV golf
First topic message reminder :
Probably best for this to have its own thread...
Latest news is that 11 LIV players have sued the PGA tour. Here is a nice article on that https://golf.com/news/phil-mickelson-lawsuit-vs-pga-tour-revelations/?amp=1
Better stock up on popcorn, it looks like we will become privy to lots of juicy information which has been secret up to now.

Why would any golfer be naked at a golf club? It's not like they've been doing anything requiring a shower afterwards
This story reeks of absolute nonsense.
Also, why would John Daly have a league table of penicular structure lengths?

And some of the pros sweat like pigs during the round, so why wouldn't they?

Bigger than Tiger?
I saw the leaked Tiger photos back in the day. Harrington must be huge.

Same here. Seen way too many naked old boys over the years. Always guys walking around naked in the locker room.
Oh, and to keep the pecker size debate going. Didn't Wozniacki hint that Rory wasn't exactly well endowed?

It's been very homo-erotic on here today.
I suggest that from tomorrow all talk should be strictly golf related and that you return to discussing the relative stiffness of each others' shafts, comparing grip styles, how often you've shaved the hole from only 2 feet away, problems with tugging and smoothness of stroke.

I've been playing with my five-year-old son for a while but he finds my balls difficult to control. We recently had great fun playing with my grandad's balls but my grandmother isn't too keen on the idea, she says they're prone to damage as they're quite old and have some sentimental value as he's been dead a while.
Do you reckon I should let him play with his own balls or persevere with mine as I'm sure he'll get the hang of them as he gets bigger?

Either way, make sure he uses the shower afterwards. Although I'm told literally no-one does that and I've never seen any naked men ever, honest.

I see Norman and co have moved onto moaning about the OGWR now - as if they weren't fully aware of all the processes and requirements in place for a golf tour to hit OGWR requirements, and those requirements haven't been used for many many prospective golf tours beforehand.
Honestly wouldn't surprise me if Greg hadn't read them until about a week ago

I'm not a massive hater of Liv, and fully understand why so many took the money. Sone I dont understand. I think it will be an irrelevance soon enough.
The ranking points does annoy me. They shouldn't get any if they don't meet the criteria and should be well aware. How can the same people just keep picking up points in no cut events with no other bugger invited to play. It would be a mockery.
Play your games take your money, no fear of failure. And just do your exhibitions. But if you can't qualify for big events or majors. That's what you signed up to.

I assumed you would be able to see the difference. Between events where people have qualified to play in, where in the rare occasion no cuts are made and therefore points given out and a events designed for a hand picked group who will always play the events and therefore consistently pick up points without the need to qualify to get into these events.
I'm guessing most people can see the difference though.

Are you forgetting about crap like Nedbank? Limited field, not qualified, no cut yet ranking points. That's what I'm referring to. What events are you talking about?

https://www.nedbankgolfchallenge.com/players/eligibility-criteria/
I've attached the eligibility criteria for this year's Nedbank, I'd assume this is similar to previous years. Even when it was only a 12 man field still have eligibility criteria.
There is also the WGC events which have no cut, but based on rankings to qualify. Yhe Hero Challenge I'm a bit wary on but even that is based on world rankings.
All vastly different to just a selected group. But I'm sure everyone is fully aware of the difference.

I have no issues with a golf tour getting ranking points, if they follow the regulations on how to get ranking points. I think a cherry picked group of players getting points with no fear of failure over a prolonged period isn't fair on the other golfers.
If Liv accept they dobrlt meet the criteria for ranking points and they all just be quiet then fine.

Re: LIV golf
You have to wonder if the Saudis originally planned for their tour to live outside the OWGR ecosystem and now the guys they have signed up have now realised they need the points. I don't think it is the case that the Saudis mistakenly came up with a non conforming format.
But whatever the case, they will have to go to 72 holes. Or live off the trivial amount they would get if they struck a deal to keep 54 holes. There are some minor tours that get OWGR points for 54 holes, but none of those guys are getting into the majors off those scraps.

Interesting to note on one of the NLU podcasts recently, they pointed out the majority of these LIV sign ups are all signed upto the same agency (not all of them of course).
The word "no" probably hasn't been used a lot in negotiations with these players either...as many have said on here, at some point though just giving folk the world will end and some realities will bite. OGWR might be the first one of them!
OGWR of course mainly made up of the majors...will they really bend and break all their rules considering the "main" LIV attractions are already major exempt for a few years (DJ, Brooks, Bryson, Phil, Smith the main ones all are exempt for the next 2/3 years at least) - I'm not sure Augusta will be losing sleep because Paul Casey, Jason Kokrak and Harold Varner III won't be rocking up there in April.

Would be funny if the Majors changed their criteria re. past victories etc cf. future qualification. I'm sure that would get the LIV players' lawyers some more money, but would be interesting to see the dummy spitting were that to occur .Good Golly I'm Olly wrote:beninho wrote:navyblueshorts wrote:Promised by whom? Perhaps they just calculate points differently then, ie nothing outside of a top 12.
Even a poor LIV field is better than a DP Tour one.

From what I've read, they would need a 36 hole cut. In fact need to meet plenty of requirements

I'm sure the big names probably don't care, or tge ones already exempt for majors. But your players who are on the edge of being turfed for the next biggish name probably could do with some points
