Agree with you on Atkinson, Geddes and Lawes, reckon the final spot will come down to Smith or Steel—I imagine that if they were expecting the pitch to take spin then they'd have put at least one of the specialists in the squad.

Again on paper, Yorks looking the weaker side with Root, Bairstow and Malan all missing.

They looked like they were managing his overs last week to me - and I wouldn't be shocked if his absence today is injury related. A big long term injury he was coming back from!

He was our best bowler on the 3rd evening!
If he's carrying an injury, why is he in the squad? Strange goings on at Surrey considering we could win the championship

At the ground. As Olly says. Credit as well though to Clark. He’s clearly the junior partner but has aided Pope in performing the senior role. More tonight.

Looks like the follow on has been enforced - not usually a move I'd agree with, but with potential weather around Friday and issues with bad light likely towards end of days play, it does seem to be the best way to get a result for us in this game.

Re: SURREY VS YORKSHIRE LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Looked like it was all going pear shaped when Patel was out on the brink of lunch - he's so frustrating atm, promising to go on but not delivering - and compunded when Foakes and Steel fell in the same over to leave us 136/5. Excellent rescue act and more from Pope looking both classy and confident. Fine support as well from Clark who played a near pefect foil.
Patterson and Coad were good and on the money consistently for the visitors but their back up bowling wasn't up to scratch. Mike was especially dreadful whilst Bess looked a mess and didn't bowl much better.
I would have liked a few more runs yesterday morning but at least we didn't hang about. Impressive bowling as a unit with all getting something in the end column and spearheaded by Lawes who has gone a long way to cementing a regular place. I did like Burns' captaincy in giving Steel 2 overs in which he took a cheap wicket and then taking him straight off to allow the seamers to nab the final wickets and enforce the follow on. That was always going to be the decision with Friday's forecast looking poor.
Out elsewhere today. Fortunately not driving as one eye will be on the Oval and the other on Southampton!

Re: SURREY VS YORKSHIRE LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to the whole squad. A fine blend of home grown talent and quality signings. Young Tom Lawes has been mightily impressive in his debut season whilst Dan Worrall has turned round the doubters of which I was one.
Of the other staff, massive credit to Gareth Batty as interim head coach who must surely now lose the ''interim'' tag. Even more praise perhaps to head groundsman Lee Fortis. Remember that just a year ago at this time it was 800 versus 700 at the Oval as we took on Glamorgan. This season Fortis has consistently produced wickets offering a fair contest between bat and ball, albeit little being there for spinners as instructed.
