2022 T20 World Cup thread
First topic message reminder :
We're now just over a fortnight out from the qualifying round, and team news is ever changing around the teams in the tournament.
Unfortunately today Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament (and a while after) with a back injury. Big blow to India that one, and a World Cup with no Archer/Bumrah (arguably the two best t20 fast bowlers in the world) is a huge shame

Going after Sodhi , too. Chase gathering momentum !
Way to go but I'm impressed with the way these two are going on with it. NZ with some thinking to do...

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
I think it was more about getting through the power play unscathed alfie. They have done that and are now hitting out. The longer these two stay in, the more nervous New Zealand will get.
Ireland can still pull this off.

Balburnie gone ...but Stirling will keep going for it. Needs the new man to turn the strike over...

That's torn it though...Stirling over does it and falls to Sodhi and it will be all to do for the new bats...

Nz spinners have taken pace off
And slowed down
And both spinners pick both openers making them go early into the strokes

Ireland may as well just go for it, hit out. They really have nothing to lose.

For the first time in this tournament I am seeing ball spin
You really need to bowl very slow to get spin

I must admit to have had optimism for Ireland going into this match. Still incredibly proud of what they have achieved though

Faith in the spinners paid off for NZ ...after those first two overs they turned it right back with economy and wickets.
Forlorn hope for Ireland now trying to hit eighty odd off the last five. They've given it a good go but NZ are too well organized.

Don't know about "doomed " , KP_fan ! Australia have some bats who are quite good against spinners. They've got a bit of a job to do re their NRR anyway ; but I'm not writing them off yet...

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
I certainly would not write the Aussies off on a spinning track but I would say that they will not score at a blistering pace.
Is Cameron Green coming in for Finch?

If it's the same pitch ...Aus struggle would be to get a win....just a plain vanilla win
And if they go for 80/100 run type margin or try to knock off Afg total in 14 overs , they may lose

Anyway I think we can safely say that NZ are now confirmed to be topping this group. I know a lot of people don't rate them ; but I am certainly not surprised. They have a knack of getting to the sharp end of these competitions : might this be the time when they go all the way ?

Hmm. Maybe. I think you have a bit more faith in Afghanistan than I do ; but we will see. Certainly a win of any kind is the first priority anyway.

Josh Little will have to be snapped up for an IPL contract I feel. He has shown through this tournament and the 100 just how good a bowler he is in this format.

So I guess Stuart Little will have to miss out. There's always some left over cheese in Hollywood though!

Thanks mate.
I'm just hoping for a win first. That's the main objective. Then see how things unfold tomorrow at the SCG.
I see Rashid Khan is playing despite his niggle the other day. A bit of a risk if he's a bit off but no doubt he'll perform well at his 2nd home ground.

Bit of a shock in the Aussie team selection. Richardson in for Starc ?!
Green and Smith for the injured Finch and David might strengthen the team; but the fast bowling switch puzzles me .

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
This is actually a much more balanced side for the Aussies. I would say their best side available.
I must say that I don't agree with playing these matches days individually. Would much rather they were all played at the same time as it gives an even advantage.

Is he injured? Doesn't make sense.
I realise the Australian quicks' wicket hauls, strike rates, are not even featuring in the top 50 for the tournament, only Maxwell (best ave, 2nd best strike rate) and Zampa are on the board.
Can only think Richardson is there for local conditions ? and must be champing at the bit to have a bowl on his home ground.
It is a strange decision indeed... way, way out-of-left-field though.

Warner doesn't look like he is going to hang around. If they do not get him out soonish, he could do some serious damage.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
Yeah I can't fathom the Starc-Richardson choice. If it weren't a must-win game I'd have thought they wanted to give him a run in case of later injury ; but in this one ? You'd think apart from the bowling , Starc would be more use swinging the bat late in the innings if needed...
Anyway , Warner is off like a rocket today

Comedy of errors in the field from Afghanistan there.
Note the crowd isn't so big. The locals must be very nervous. Fine weather fans we are!
If it was a Crows-Port match alfie... the roof would be coming off!

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
Fast start . Suppose the big issue will be what happens when Rashid comes on. Makes sense to go hard early anyway - plenty of batting to follow if they do lose a couple of wickets.

Idiot shot from Warner. No need for that.
He just had to play conventionally and put away the loose ones.

Bit over-ambitious. I know these "unorthodox " shots can unsettle the fielding side ; but sometimes they seem unnecessarily risky.
Smith in. Wondered if they'd move Maxwell up but maybe a little early...

Smith out...at least he didn't waste too many balls.
These two are a likely pair to score fast ; but with three down already this is getting a bit tricky...

83-3 after 10. Reasonable position for over 200 but can't lose too many more
