Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 29 - Buckfast & Bollinger
Good Scottish results this weekend and Maitland also had a strong game for Saracens who beat Lyon away despite a red card for the final quarter. Looking at the wider player availability for Scotland there has to be a good squad there for the 6N in terms of youth and experience. Toonie has been testing depth the past few seasons but for this 6N I’d really like to see him get the balance a bit better.

I watched the Quins v Racing game on sunday and you would have to say, Bath would be a bit nervous if they had been watching it as well.
One of those Finn Russell games when nothing he tried came off, every kick through got blocked, charged or intercepted.
That is what you get I suppose!

Well well well.
It's all a wee bit too moribund on here. So where is everyone?
tigertattie, I assume the new 24 hour Greggs in Gorgie has him trapped in a never ending death-cycle of pastry and icing sugar. His face is now frozen in a death mask of congealed bridie fat.
FES is far too busy on the NHS picket lines to be posting rubbish on here. Just for clarification; he is supporting the nurses by reading them extracts from Jacob Smug Thrashthepoor's "How to survive the economic crash by hiring more domestic staff".
RDW is far too busy sunbathing on Bondi beach to post here. Also he's still blaming the International Date Line for the fact that there is usually a 12 hour gap between a joke landing on these threads and him actually getting it.
Big Gee Is far too busy manning (personing?) the NHS counselling helpline. Apparently they have been flooded with calls from the Edinburgh area; lots of young nurses complaining of PTSD after being approached by "that posh bloke who smells of lapsang souchang and disappointment asking if I wanted to exacerbate his fiscal growth."
GC is far too busy explaining to MrsGC that Ayr is actually the cradle of civilisation and the social housing there is vastly superior to the ramshackle lean to's that they have been squatting in up to now.
For the rest of us.... it looks like there will be two very good, and on form, teams battering each other on Friday evening and we're all afraid to make any kind of prediction lest we appear less than wise.
1. Bhatti Berghan
2. Chuckles Matthews
3. Walker McBeth
4. Richie
5. Big Man Jessie Du Preez
6. Fagerson Brown
7. Big ShonaNield
8. Boxer
9. Dobbie Aldi Price
10. Miotti Jordan
11. Cancelliere
12. Wee Shona
13. Shug
14. Seaman

The Luvvies will field the usual dregs of humanity masquerading as rugby players.

Greetings all. I'm actually back in the motherland 24 hours later than planned. Given there was also 24 hours of flying involved, I'm a bit tired!
They also lost our luggage so am needing to go and buy 'essentials' on BA's wallet. New Scotland tops count as an essential right?

You've spent too much time with the criminal element, Flounder. You wouldn't get that sort of behaviour on Drumchapel.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 29 - Buckfast & Bollinger
Slightly surprised to see Shug having a rest.
The 6/2 split continues; Jordan can cover 12 (has played much more at 12 than 10 until the General promoted him) , Miotti can cover 15 as can the Good Lord Stafford.
It's a big, heavy pack and it won't get any lighter if Squaddie and Du Preez come on. Neild looked a gnarly pain in the arse 7 at Bath, which I like.
Only the Luvvies could have Tom Cruise at Hooker. I hope when he throws in he has his eyes wide shut.
p.s. If the Luvvies lose tigertattie is buying mince pies for everyone. Either kind.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 29 - Buckfast & Bollinger
There is definitely a bit of squad rotation going on here from Glasgow.
Expect Johnson and Jones to start the next game, probably Smith and Mclean as well.
The current injury situation not giving quite the same options in the forwards unfortunately.

It's weird that Glasgow have rotated and Edinburgh have gone full throttle (except Crosbie) given it's a Glasgow home game!

Interesting one. The Weege are very difficult to beat at home but have been flakier than the proverbial croissant in a wind tunnel lately.
I would be happy with a good game and no injuries from both sides.

Wash your mouth out, GC!
A dreary 3-0 Warriors victory will suffice.
The Perfumed Ones deserve a spanking; Tom Cruse and The Goose...indeed.

I was trying to be festively magnanimous Jim. I obviously don't mean it.
I presume the Edinburgh fans will be too busy trying to decide which of their 900 Brora cashmere onesies they should wear to actually get to the game.

Anyone see why an Edinburgh scrum was turned over to a Glasgow penalty around the 72 minute mark? That was the beginning of the end for Edinburgh's fightback

I came on here to wish you all a Merry Christmas, but now I'll have get the staff to work the Google machine for me....
Glasgow defence ultimately the difference here, plus a ref who doesn't know what a scrum is.

Hey ho! Luvvies never looked like winning tonight. FES was right; the Warriors defence was the difference.
The Shonas were very impressive tonight. We still need a 10 who can control the game though.

Merry Christmas everyone
Commiserations to Edinburgh in their unsuccessful visit to Scotstoun and better luck on the return. You are playing the once and future champions though, so i guess it was to be expected

There was a moment when the Luvvies looked to break out of their 22 late on in the game (to little WAY too late) and some hapless Luvvie was marmalised copywright Ken Dodd by J P Du Preez. It was beautiful. But the big fella's name doesn't exactly trip off the tongue.
I suggest we call him Groot.

That was stupid play by the Edinburgh player - he was on his own and was never going to beat him 1 on 1 in that situation, so got turned over. Should have hoofed it or cut back in for support.
Any idea who it was?

That wasjust another in a long line of unimaginative and stupid plays by the Edinburgh player - he was on his own and was never going to beat him 1 on 1 in that situation or in any other TBH, so got turned over.

Di Preez looks a horrible player to play against - I'm surprised he's generally used off the bench and not a starter.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 29 - Buckfast & Bollinger
I think Groot suffers slightly from the Ickle Jonny syndrome: he is basically quite introverted and is happiest doing the unseen work, as opposed to an Etzebeth type of extravert who always wants to be noticed. Also, with those long branch like legs it probably takes him 20 metres to get up to top speed so if he's getting the ball close to the ruck he's not hitting it as explosively as wee fellas like Big Man Jessie or the Squaddie.
I think Wee Shona will be due arest by Friday and we might see Shug-Stafford in the centres. Maybe Johnson-Shug for the Perpignan trip.

Either
(a) behaviour likely to lead to a breach of the peace (in the minds of those poor Luvvies defence coaches).
OR
(b) it is the Chrimbo fancy dress party season at Scotstoun and Batman has a bad leg this year.
You are the legal expert GC, you can advise us as to which is more likely.

Watching the world’s strongest man and again crying that Tom Stoltman didn’t take up rugby.
6ft 8 and 28 stone. Imagine that off the base of a scrum running at Owen Farrell.

Between FES and his Trussian nocturnal emissions and the comment above...you Luvvies certainly know how to stay warm on these cold winter nights.

You haven't experienced true cramp of the wrist until you've spent an evening Googling "Liz Truss tax cuts".
Still, that's not what keeps me warm. Having staff stuff my numerous log burners and open fires with pictures of Greta does that, whilst watching documentaries on the British Empire.
Looking forward to the return leg at the Dam. Revenge hangs thick in the Edinburgh air. Edinburgh to win by 10. The Bill Mata show.

Oh my, dearie me and jings crivvens help ma boab And other couthy ejaculations.
The General has, rather like Lord Keir Of The Murmuring Starmers, quietly redrawn the battle lines and toughened his troops into real contenders. Young Blair, true to his family name, is all style and very little substance. New Luvvies to be sure.
The Rugby club will stick with their 6/2 split; this looks very conservative until you realise that behind what is now a very gnarly pugnacious pack is a lightning fast set of backs.
9. Aldi, Hornito, House Elf.
10. Thompson, Miotti, Jordan.
12-13 Stafford, Johnson, Wee Shona, Shug, Seaman, Jordan
11-14-15 Titman, Cancelliere, McKay, Smith, Forbes, Seaman.
I've omitted Meatball, Fifita and Kennedy. I was about to say they are fringe players but the General really is the anti-Rennie since they are playing in important matches like Bath and Perpignan.
Seriously! If we make it an arm wrestle on Friday then my money is on our pack to repeat last week's battering. If the ball goes beyond 10 then we will run rings around the knitwear models. N.B. Hornito needs to stop box kicking: we did not regather one single kick nor did we put the ball in areas the Luvvies did not want to be. And yet we still won. Even with Bhatti's wonder try disallowed.
FES, stay at home and thrash the chambermaid while listening to Jacob Rees Mogg reading the audio book of The Wealth Of Nation (abridged and updated). It's the only jollies you'll be getting on Friday.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 29 - Buckfast & Bollinger
I'm just hoping to see the Jordan/Stafford dream combo again at 10/12 for the Universal Credit recipients and that plodder, Kyle Steyn, on the wing. I love how the Weedge made him skipper, presumably to give him something to do. Reminds me of the All Kellock days....
If we get a ref who understands the scrum, it could get ugly for the soap dodgers.

Apparently half the Glasgow team won’t be available as a computer glitch meant their giros were paid far too early for Christmas and they’ve spent it all already.
Unless hornito’s mum has a 7 seater people carrier then there could be trouble as Stafford’s mum doesn’t have a car and Kyle’s mum is still serving her ban

tiger...shame on you! Making a joke about a South African woman being under a banning order!!! And her a personal friend of Nelson Mandela!!!! No bridies for you.
Hornito never uses automotive transport; he can't stand going so slow. He'll sprint to the Library as a pre warm up warm up.
Stafford' maw floats everywhere while being serenaded by heavenly choirs and grateful weegians thankful that she has allowed her son to lighten our darkness.
Luvvies! Vent your spleen now; Saturday will be your day weeping and a wailing.
