Bridgerweight hasn't taken off yet but it will......Stuck at 210 with the WBC only at present but it will move to 215-220 in all realistic purposes....Because there is money to be made and more meat...

When it hots up which it will and you have 230 pounders dragging to make 220 where the heck will we be ????

Because a tough strong 225 pounds is enough to beat a 250 pound slob everyday of the week.....Holyfield v Douglas......Louis v Baer.....Chuck in Haye v Ruiz......Holy v Foreman.....Spinks v Cooney.......Not all slobs but you get my drift..

A good solid 230 pounder could clear out Fury.....Joshua....Ruiz.....tomorrow......Not a slow cruiser like Usyk......But a small Heavy like Holmes....Tyson...Holy....who could all be bridgerweights would beat them....Those guys with the best nutrition would probably be more like 225 than the 215ish they were at peak.

Once Heavy is lost to the slobs then Boxing falls because Heavyweight Boxing drives the sport.  Always has......

Bridgerweight is unnecessary and its dangerous but what do the Alphabets care ???

I thought the WBC had it as a 224 lb limit, Truss?

If what you're saying is correct - that a good 230 pounder could clear out the likes of Fury, Wilder, Joshua etc. - then wouldn't that incentivise those 230 pounders to stay at Heavyweight where the money is, rather than drop down to Bridgerweight and leave the Heavyweight division to the fat slobs? I can't see any big money at Bridgerweight for a long, long time, even if it survives this infancy stage.

Either way, I hope the division crashes and burns (even the name is crud, regardless of the soppy origins of it) and that no other sanctioning body or publication starts backing it. Fighters are very good at manipulating their weight, as we know. If Bridgerweight survives you aren't going to end up with an exciting division of more athletic bigger men, you'll just have a division full of guys who know they can't compete with the best Heavies manipulating the weigh in system to boil down to 224 before entering the ring as heavy, or possibly even heavier, than the guys in the division 'above' them.

Joshua is a big Heavyweight whichever way you slice it - yet he was averaging about 230 for his first three fights. He could probably have sweated off an additional few lb to be a 'Bridger' for a few minutes on the scales if he and Hearn wanted to pick up a manufactured world title in the first couple of years of his career, had the division been around then.

224 is even worse........look if someone can get a cheap world title they will be a fool not to take it regardless of whether they feel they can take a big Heavy.....

Or they can leave it until later on....Leaving the division with stinkers......

Holmes...Ali...Tyson....Louis and pretty much every top Heavy dealt with larger Men...and for the good of Boxing......ie Baer v Carnera.

It’s funny because I would have said there was more need of a ‘bridger’ between light heavy and cruiser where the jump is a whopping 25lbs compared to a few pounds between other divisions.  The old ‘cruiserweight’ was of course 190lbs but strangely upped it to 200lbs.  Cruiserweight was only Holyfield for many years before it took off in Europe.

I have feeling Bridgerweight will be a youtube weight for celebrities who have eaten themselves out of shape and fighting manufactured grudge matches for a lot of cash.
