The Luvvies almost conspired to throw it away against a totally chaotic 14 man Castres. Aldi Price will have a huge target on his back. There is no recognisable full back for The Effeminates. Nel is 74 years old; and that is not in dog years. Henry Healey won't know what has hit him...it'll be Rory Darge.

Two strong sides but I think Edinburgh should have enough to win this one. Thompson will be relishing the opportunity to get one over Healy but I think Healy may well be the hero of the day given his form of late.

Huw Jones starts on the wing as Glasgow welcome back three Scotland stars in the forward pack for the first 1872 Cup fixture against Edinburgh.

It is the first time in his senior career that Jones has played out wide, although he featured plenty at full-back. The move also allows Franco Smith to welcome Stafford McDowall back at 12, with Sione Tuipulotu continuing to captain from outside centre.

Ally Miller keeps his place in the team after his try-scoring performance against Bayonne, although he shifts to blindside flanker. Rory Darge comes in at openside, with Sione Vailanu in at number eight.

The other changes come in the boiler room, with Scott Cummings and Richie Gray replacing Greg Peterson and young Alex Samuel.

It's a six-two split on the bench, with Peterson, Max Williamson and Henco Venter all named. Ben Afshar is the replacement scrum-half.

There's no place for the injured Matt Fagerson, while Ollie Smith is potentially out long term after a knee injury sustained in France.

Was it apparent how much of an effect Thompson had on the team against Bayonne? The General acts in mysterious ways but maybe he's realised having a 10 with a decent kicking game is a Plus

Bad news for Glasgow and Ollie Smith in particular

The knee injury is as bad as it looked at the time and ligaments are gone. That is his season done unfortunately, he is likely looking at a 9 month lay off.

As much as I've criticised him in a Scotland shirt, thats very unfortunate for him and Glasgow.

Whos left in the back 3 that can cover fullback this season?

Mckay mainly, but Shuggie has also played there very well for Quins in the past, despite being on the wing tonight.

No doubt there will be some positional switches during the game, that is how the general likes to play things

Glasgow playing the better rugby but Rowe has only received one pass (which he scored from) and Jones hasn't received the ball in space. The Luvvies are pretty much sticking to one out rugby. Are they scared that if they open up then Glasgow will run riot in the open spaces?

After the first scrum the ref told the Glasgow front row that they had done really well and to keep that up: Nel then messed up the second scrum and the ref's mind was made up for the rest of the evening.
