Who said the Glasgow maul was dead!
Johnny the Scouser again
Kick to the corner clearly the right call
Hornito nails the kick from the touchline to
15-10 Glasgow

Hard to see Edinburgh scoring a try from here especially down to 14

Frustrating second half. Edinburgh's attack has been very pedestrian, and that Glasgow maul is lethal.

Edinburgh's pack badly man shamed this half. How could we set up our own attacking maul and end up Glasgow taking the ball away?

No BP, but you can't really complain about that in these conditions
Pretty comprehensive you'd have to say
It'll be a long drive back down the M8 for Edinburgh tonight

Well...it was a slaughter, subdued but still a slaughter.
Edinburgh never looked as if they were in any danger of winning that match.
The conditions were appalling, must have been like trying to have a Peace-In inside Cruella's cold, cold heart, but Glasgow managed to play some rugby. Actually they played all the rugby.
I can't wait to see which Luvvies turn up next week: the side who ran Castres ragged our the shambles who limped through 80 minutes tonight.

Plenty to work on from Edinburgh, and not many positives. Ritchie was good, and thought Nel was a wee bit unlucky not to get more reward at the scrum, but overall very few complaints with the outcome. Edinburgh backs really didn't feature, which is criminal when you look at that back three.

Well deserved win Glasgow. Edinburgh were in it at halftime but one way traffic afterwards. Definitely a big gulf in class between the teams, which probably no surprise given Glasgow are the more settled squad and coaching group.
Really disappointed with the Edinburgh pack tonight. Plenty international players in there too.

The only non- capped player (15 a side) in the starting packs? Ally Miller!

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
Well done Glasgow!
Edinburgh always seem to struggle to get their midfield working. Come the end of the season I think it would be good to get a new inside centre. Matt Scott was fantastic during the 2019/2020 season but then he was off to Leicester and ever since then it's not been quite the same. Lang, Currie, Bennett, Dean are all a similar level with Currie the only player on the rise really.
Let's see how Edinburgh get on at home in a more civilised setting.

Centres is definitely the weak point of the Edinburgh squad but that game was lost on pack performance.
Apparently Edinburgh conceded 8 penalties after 55 minutes - that's terrible discipline!

Probably shows that Glasgow applied good pressure at the end too. That is a shocking penalty count. Still, only a twelve point margin so hopefully Edinburgh can get their danger men into space at Murrayfield.

If by civilised you mean playing in a lean-to beside an empty mausoleum then I'll give you that. If you mean FES roasting the under footman's chestnuts on a roaring fire...I'll give you that. If you mean TigerTattie marinating his turkey in Buckfast...I'll give you that.
But if you mean drowning your battered sausage supper in NIPPY SAUCE Heathens you are, heathens.
Merry Christmas Eve Eve.

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
Well, it seems that there will be a record attendance for the second leg of TASOTE. you know what that means.
30,000 tickets sold.
30,000 souls braving Storm Gerrit right up ye to witness Duhan impersonating a Christmas tree; not quite as mobile and nowhere near as bright.
30,000 souls bellowing, "He's behind you" at the referee every time Mbawza wants to whine about a decision.
30,000 souls yelling "He's behind you " every time Henry Healey gets the ball and Rory Darge gets that look in his eye.
30,000 souls screaming "He's behind you." Every time RV.2 skins ADHD, or Duhan on the wing.
30,000 tickets sold. Just shows that if you put on something people want to see then they will turn out.

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
Team's oot
Bhatti-Scouser-Ragnar (McBeth-Turner-Kebble)
Gray-Cummings (Peterson-Williamson)
MadMullet-RV.2-Darge (Henco)
Hornito (Brimfull)
Jordan (Thompson)
Stafford-Shona
Dimples-McKay-OtherMullet
Really good side, probably the best we could hope for given the injury list. I thought Big Shona was superb last week but hopefully the Mad Mullet will be as destructive at the breakdown. Miller might need to do more of the hard yards rather than showing Duhan a clean pair of heels.
The trophy will be residing in the west for, at least, another year.

It'll be pretty worrying if that Edinburgh pack is out played as badly as it was last week, particularly that backrow. Hopefully some dry weather another large crowd can see a decent game.

Surprising in many ways, that he did not shake up the Edinburgh pack after their no show last week.
Surely playing that poorly, especially in a derby gsme aught to have some consequences?

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
Just looking at the squad depth charts on the On Top Of The Moon site
Ragnar is the only fit TH Glasgow have at the moment, hence Kebble named as TH replacement today. This will be Ragnar's 6th game in a row and we have two European games coming up.
Gray, Cummings, Williamson and Samuels are our only fit second rows, Peterson benches today but then he's off to the New World.
Assuming Hornito is in the 6Nations squad we will be left with Ashfar and Kennedy at 9.
Jones and Wee Shona will certainly be with Scotland; if Lord Stafford is called up then we don't have any fit centres left apart from Jordan and Munn.
Crisis! What crisis?
Still a five pointer today will put a different complection on things.

I did think Z Fagerson was having a big workload this season. Which also isn't ideal given he's basically the only international class TH Scotland have fit just now who can be replied upon for more than 20 minutes!

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
All bodes poorly for the six nations if you ask me. I was pretty annoyed with the RWC results but given the lack of anyone stepping up to the class of Nel so far this season and then the injuries to our 3 & 4 choices I just think we’re going to be struggling against an improved England and Wales. Keeping Nel and Fagerson fit for the entire six nations is key. Double ice baths!

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
Well, after today Glasgow don't play until the trip to Execeterr on the 13th January. With any luck Ragnar can put his feet up at half time, the Luvvies' having folded like a cheap deck chair by then. Toulon are at Scotstoun the week after the Execeterr trip and then it's a week off before the 6 Nations begins.
As long as Ragnar gets through this afternoon without a red card, or an injury then he should be OK for the next run of games.
Hopefully by mid January we should see some of our 14 injured players start to return.

Well
Luvvies
The turning point for me was when Darge and Mullet went off. The Luvvies began flooding the breakdown and started slowing the Glasgow ball as well as winning turnovers. Also, Ross Thompson did himself absolutely no favours today.

Watched that on delay, as spent the afternoon stripping wallpaper at sons new flat!
What a cracking game though, good to see a record crowd of 37,000 get their money's worth.
I thought we had it till Duhan went coast to coast, a great try to win the game.
I suspect both sides will be reasonably happy.
Glasgow took a point and retained the trophy. Which with the current injury list, is no bad thing.
Edinburgh turned up this time and kept themselves in the league battle.
Good for Scottish rugby to, with such an excellent crowd.

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
Well first of all that was an entertaining game which has been a bit of a rarity in 1872 Cup games at Murrayfield in recent years. Pretty remarkable attendance too. There really wasn't much between the teams at all but Edinburgh probably deserving of the win.
It was a much improved Edinburgh performance but the pack still faltered - the lineout was an embarrassment at times. At pro level you should never have a lineout miscommunication yet Edinburgh did is 3 times - what do they do at training all week?? We really need to consign the short goal line dropout to the bin - I have no idea what they're trying to achieve. At best we win the ball back then just box kick away anyway. At worst we give the opposition an attacking platform in the 22 and it led to their try.
Duhan was outstanding and well deserved of his MOTM - one of his best games for Edinburgh. Hopefully Edinburgh have worked out how to get him more involved now as he's such a lethal weapon when he pops up across the pitch. Healy had a much improved performance too - he was very flat to the line and brought a lot of variety to his play. More of that please.
Overall Glasgow were deserving of the 1872 cup after a dominant performance last week and a close result this week. They definitely look the more cohesive team but Edinburgh are on an upward trajectory.

Re: 1872 Cup ∣ The Auld Acquaintance
Injury wise, that game could prove costly to an already depleted Glasgow squad.
Rory Darge looks like he took a bad knee injury, which the General has already said he is concerned about. He could miss the 6N.
Turner got concuseed by that reckless Sykes tackle. Not that it made any difference to the result, but he was lucky not to see Red for that.
Johnny the Scouser also limped off, which may leave us very bare on hookers ic that drags on at all.
I think it us a good job we have got a rest next weekend!

Happy new year fellow reprobates
I just called, to say………… that was two pretty piss poor games of rugger
What does the cup achieve other than making the players put their bodies on the line, just because it’s a Scotland tryout.
Move the fixtures to the end of the season I say. Save the Scotland squad players

tiger, you old reprobate! Where have you been?
Just for a change I shall disagree with you. The first game was an excellent match: the Rugby Club won! The second match was as good as could be expected given the conditions.
The big disappointment for me (apart from the referee) was Hamish Watson, he really is fifth or sixth choice for Scotland at the moment.
Also, I genuinely hope the players weren't making an extra effort for the silverware: they're professionals and should be getting stuck in every time they pull on the jersey.
p.s. if you fancy being 6 we could be flanking for the next couple of Glasgow fixtures.

Jimbo. Lovely to see your grammatically correct banter on here.
The very thought of playing again has my heart a flutter but my knees creaking and my twice surgically repaired shoulder shuddering.

You're still, medically speaking, fitter than 80% of the Glasgow forwards.
Looks like Darge will be having a long lay off now.

Even with an iron lung you'd still be lighter than Big Shona Vailanu.

A friend of mine sent me a photie from a supermarket in the western isles; the aisle was labelled "suitees"
