Tenez wrote:So are we trying Woffie to take the spice out of tennis forums?
Maybe we should create a "derogative index" now!
Moonballer = strategic high baller (BTW, they were very high yesterday v Sod).
Shanker = "unlucky Framer"
Faker = "unluckily injured maybe"
Choker = Hyperactive with focus deficiency
....
I think most of the so called name calling(listed above) has to be taken " tongue in cheek" considering its usually named at the top players, and after all they did managed to get to the top!
Just think if they were all perfect specimens how boring would that be

Just to say that everyone on this forum (and I do mean everyone), is trying to make a concertated effort to leave behind the tired old 606 derogitives of Moonballer, Shanker, Faker, Choker etc. behind. It doesn't inhibit the debate and just makes for a friendly forum. Thanks
I fully appreciate your point Woffie.
I believe that if you want a sparkling debate on tennis, it is important to consider the sport as a whole and not an edulcorated image of it.
Tennis is a brutal clash of egos and wills.
You do choke under the weight of fatigue and stress,
You do shank when you try to overpower your opponent.
You do moonball in trying to weary your competitors. Which is the tactic that has reworded so much players of the calibre of Nadal, Borg or Wilander.
Some can go as far as faking an injury just to have a minute more of breath.
I wander why the debate may sound more sensible by removing the reality of the game and pretending that all of this simply doesn't exist.
Say that I never called choker anybody in my life for respect (although I now a couple of them for sure) and don't think "moonballer" is such a bad name...........

Re: 606 Index
On the contrary Tenez. Removing "spice" from a forum is not correct. However, the terms you and polished have so described in the context you have, are not how those individual words are generally used, as the individual words are used as a derogatory insult towards the players. Obviously it doesn't bother you, however posters on this forum have previously expressed opinions that they should be left from whence they came, and it really isn't so difficult to use their names or derivatives thereof, instead of derogatives, is it?
But that's just my opinon, and it begs to where it might end. If the majority are happy for the re-introduction of the Moonballer, then will it be Nadull, the Mallorcan Moonballer, Swiss Shanker, Shankmeister, Shanky, Faker, Crabman, Choker, Whinger, etc. It doesn't amuse me and I don't think its a good reflective of the tone of the forum. But I've said my piece and will have to bow to majority opinion.

Re: 606 Index
It certainly doesn't bother me to call Shanky "Shankmeister".
My understanding is that fans have their safe heaven threads where teasing is forbidden. The big playground however should be for posters able to cope with derogative names. We shoudl grow over those little words...I think.

Re: 606 Index
Morning guys, sorry I haven't been around much the last couple of days, work has been a nightmare.
I have said all along that constructive criticism of a player is fine when backed up with an argument. Posts or articles simply entitled "Murray is choker" "Nadull is a moonballer" etc will be deleted and further action may be taken against that individual involved by the Admin.
Such comments are designed to wind up fans of that player. Again, I mentioned that we are all lovers of this sport, so please have some respect for your fellow posters. You are all aware of what winds up other posters by certain comments.
We want the forum to grow even more than it is now and are advertising through various means. We are getting retweets on the tennis twitter for fun, going out with links to v2 to thousands of followers. And seeing derogatory comments or posts may put off a new member from joining, and it upsets the existing members.
We are all adults here, lets try and get along. The tennis section has massive potential, so please lets all work together to make it work and make it very successful.
Cheers

That's why moderating shoudl be used with much care cause he is a very good poster we have lost here.

I don't know why people are so tetchy about those names, I found them really funny, and they still make me smile when I remember them: General Shanko, Mallorcal a rather successful tennis player, OK...Smurf , funny I can't remember any for Murray, but there were loads ARod, Donkey Dr Ivo....I don't remember who coined all those but it was fun...it's nice here ut a bit too prim and proper and sterile, but still early days, maybe it's better to start safe like this and establish, I dunno....

Yea without those nicknames and some bit of wummery the board will be less fun, after all we need wums to counter arguments just like there is no tomorrow .
Countering the wum arguments and make them look dumb was the best part of 606.

Re: 606 Index
Yes it was actually, Basle Bungler, etc. Some of those posts had me in stitches...here's an example:
"Continuing the bile, Roger Federer damned Muray with the faintest of praise: "Andy Murray is a great counter-puncher".
Puh-lease. What was there to counterpunch? Swiss Shanky barely kept the ball in court. In boxing terms, all Murray had to do was stay on his feet, keep moving, jab all night and watch the wet paperbag champion fall apart. Roger Federer urgently needs someone in his entourage to tell him a few home truths. And no, I don't mean Gwen Stefani. Salutations!"
or
"What a nightmare draw for the discombobulated Swiss. Flattened by Fish in Indian Wells, routed by Roddick in Miami and now about to be quashed by tennis journeyman Sam Querrey; the American nightmare continues. By the time the college standard player has finished running Roger all over Roland Garros with public park standard serve and volleying, dazed and confused Swiss shanky will surely be seeing stars. Misguided fans of Roger Federer would have been hoping that he could at least get past the first round in his final asterisked slam but sadly it is not to be. Querrey to quell the Swiss rebellion in four. 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6."
Sadly, wummery of that calibre has gone downhill. AIR where art thou...?

Re: 606 Index
I was never sure if Tetra_Tyger was AIR either....with this contribution:
"Blazing Benneteau bashes baffled Basle Bungler
People grumbled. People complained. They muttered dark words such as ‘choke’, or ‘tanking’ when Rafael Nadal came back from the brink yesterday against the inept Muggy. Well what a breath of fresh air the stupendous match last night must have been for every tennis analyst!
World number one Roger Federer played the match of his career, and tried every trick in his well used book; erratic serving, wild forehands, timid backhands, clumsy volleys, and even his party trick of ‘the festival of errors’ in a bid to unsettle his foe, yet Benneteau was far too strong. The fearsome Frenchman refused to either choke or tank a match in which he clearly recognized he was the vastly superior player.
One must now wonder what the future hold for Roger Federer. After his whipping at the US Open to Caveman Potro, then his humbling defeat in hometown Basel to the frantically ball-bouncing Djoker, and now his clear cut loss to a tennis journeyman taking us back to the glory days when he was regularly schooled by the likes of Canas, Fish and Volandri, the Swiss Shanky is struggling to stay afloat in a rough sea filled with increasing numbers of hungry sharks. One suspects it is merely a matter of time before the sinking Swiss swallows his pride, and takes firm hold of his only life buoy; a life buoy blessedly marked ‘retirement’. Salutations."
Even when you didnt agree with the article you could only help but laugh.
Ah the sweet nostalgia of high level humourous wummery.
