Munster's Paul Darbyshire passes away
MUNSTER Rugby announces with great regret that PAUL DARBYSHIRE is to step down from his position as Head of Strength & Conditioning at the end of this season, after four years with the province.
Since being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last September, Paul - who continues to carry out his duties with the squad - has responded with characteristic courage and humour that has been an inspiration to all.
A native of Wigan in the north of England, Paul who played almost all his professional Rugby League career with Warrington Wolves is married to Lyndsay and has four children, Ella (13), Georgia (11), Jack aged 7 and baby Harry, born in October.
Commenting on the news Munster coach Tony McGahan said, "The news of Paul's illness has had a profound impact not only on the management and squad.
"We will do everything we can to support Paul and his family in this difficult period of their lives. "
*******
PAUL DARBYSHIRE
RIP
Paul Darbyshire passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday 20th June 2011.

Was that Darbyshire who was wheeled up by O'Connell at the end of the Magners final?

Yea. Munster had a fund raising evening for him yesterday.

Absolute tragedy and 4 young children - I'm sure Munster will do everything they can.

Terrible news. It;s a terrible disease with no cure in sight. At such a young age with 4 young children. Prayers and thoughts with them at this moment.

Actually I see that the Musnter team were informed about it while out cycling to raise money for his illness. There was a cycle from Cork to Limerick yesterday and the Munster team are going Limerick to Roscrea today. Bet they are seriously motivated on this cycle now.

Thoughts with his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
Clip here of him at Magners final a few weeks ago with his young son. I seem to remember him being able to stand on the sidelines for the Os game.

My mate's dad died from this about 15 years ago. It really moves quickly, even among those who were previously very active.

Thanks for that link I shall also show my support by going to see the riders off on the Anglesey stage.
Stage 4: Wednesday 22nd June 2011- Holyhead – Colwyn Bay (75km/47 miles)
Last year when Wales played Italy at the Millennium stadium I cycled from Anglesey to Cardiff in a day 206 miles raising £7000 for Ty Gobaith and Ty Hafan a North and South Wales based hospices for children

Very impressive - 206 miles! You must have done a fair bit of training to be able to do that. ROG was complaining about his bum being sore and he only did about 70 miles yesterday (posted before Paul's death on twitter).
